WMP11 won't play mp3's

Hi all,

Long time reader, almost first time poster saying hello to all.

I've been using nLite for quite some time now. I use it for my carpc, to make it as fast as possible. Never had any real trouble with it. Always got things to work, with a little bit of tinkering.

Resently I decided to reinstall my carpc, Mainly to update the navigation software, and to try out a new frontend. This new frontend is based around WMP11, whereas the old one, use Winamp. Got pretty much everything worked out, but for some reason, WMP11 won't play mp3's.

So this is what I did:

WXP install source integrated with Beta sp3.

WMP slipstreamed with booogy's wmp11 slipstreamer.

Modified with nLite latest edition.

Everything installs fine, and all drivers are installed corretly, (using a Dell Latitude D610 btw) When I try to play a mp3 file, wmp says there is no codec installed! So please help me find, what I've missed.

Audio works fine, as mu usb radio (silabs) works. Tried installing the Frauenhoff mp3 codec, but that didn't help.

Any ideas?

i got an idea.....stop using beta software.....like sp3

then if that doesnt convince u......try the same preset but without removing security center. it seems that removal on a sp3 xp causes problems.

This one could be crappy because the drivers contains codecs.

This issue is also going on in Vlite (I hear that clearly).

Your media player plays WMA with no problems, but when opening a MP3 file (especially VBR ones) it won't play it at all, right?

1. Install the K-Lite codec pack

2. Build a new image and left these options open

i remove a lot with nlite and mp3 works just fine. even with that drivers and codecs removed.

his prob is that he used sp3 and removed security center.

i already made lots of test with that component kept and wmp 11 works fine with mp3

Hi guys, and thank you for your ideas.

I did however, find that the following files is needed by wmp11. So adding these to nlites exclude box, fixed the problem.

DBGHELP.dll.....Windows Image Helper

ODBCBCP.DLL.....Microsoft BCP for ODBC

PDH.DLL.........Windows Performance Data Helper DLL

SP3 is not released yet so you can never get a representive image with SP3. If I'm looking via Google in Dutch at XP SP3 , the first result I encounter is a huge warning not to use SP3 at all till it's release.

I also skip using Vista SP1 RC1. It has some nasty bugs and without it, it works perfectly...

Do you also tested VBR 80-100 MP3's. Only a original install will these files properly and why? I really don't know.

That's my experience, but this is personal. Maybe I'm wrong, if then, sorry
