HELP: lost HD partition woes...

I have a USB portable HD. I was running a chkdsk command on it. I forgot that I was running it and I shutdown my PC.

Next time I boot up and plug my USB portable HD to my PC, it asks to format my USB HD. Has the partition tables been corrupted? How can I rescue my portable HD partition again??? Please help!

Your best bet is TESTDISK:

Usually in these cases it can rebuild the Partition Table.

Otherwise, you can use a file recovery tool, like PHOTOREC or PCINSPECTOR:
