I would like to thank those who had given suggestions and help in relation to a new computer I had been fumbling with. I have moved up from 1999 to the present and I am more than satisfied.

I will at some point play around with Ubuntu more. I tried getting a few things in order like the internet to work but I wasn't able to reactivate my account with Veri$on through Ubuntu, nor could I connect because to have to reactivate. With verizon you need windows software and a branded IE browser for this to work that is embedded within the Veri$on software package. I had to get XP to do this. I couldn't get an emulator since I couldn't get online and I didn't find anything in any of the repositories. Ubuntu is a nice OS and from what I have played with, before putting XP in, I really do like it and believe it is capable and powerful in its own right.

I can't believe how fast this computer is. Online videos actually play, lol. I won't be playing any hard core games, overclocking, or anything really extensive, just simple standard video processing at the most.

Before:

Compaq Presario 5822

System board socket 370 - Intel 2 - 500mghz, upgradable to 600mghz max

Ram: 256MB, originally 96MB

Video: 4MB

Audio: 16 bit PC solo-1

After

Ultrabox Microfly case

Intel board d945gccr socket 775

Proc: 3.0ghz - intel 4 - 631, Cedar Mill

Ram: 2GB

Video: onboard, 128MB current setting

Audio: Audigy 2

in virtualdub frame rate processing in xvid is 101.9 frames per second.:w00t: Holy crap! My old computer only could do 4-7 fps. Chip looks like it's at 27.2C

I like it when people are happy.

So what’s the next step? Throwing the fridge size monitor out and get your self a flat screen against the wall? :)
