ktyeo Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Hi all gurus,I have tried so many.. many.. times to make my own nlite's winxp pro cd and every copy I made gives this error and I have been going back and forth for weeks already and am still unable to fix it. The Windows XP Pro installation showed completed at the end but I checked and found several things were not done eg... that the updates by Ryan were not installed... also my theme's media sounds were also not installed. My nlite is version 1.4.I have browsed your forum and still cannot find an answer to my woes. The error is :During the XP installation screen, almost at the end of the part ... "preparing installation"... I will get this error prompt "inf install failure. Reason : The configuration registry key is invalid"I can close the prompt and the installation will continue but as mentioned - with the above abnormalies. Also the second issue is I get at "my computer", right click "regedit" but it is a lost link (not working). How to trace which registry in the installation cd is causing this?TIA
nuhi Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Attach your preset. And you can't find that issue because it's not something that happens every time, it's the way you used it but we'll see what after the preset.
ricktendo Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Sounds like a INF file is trying to do AddReg a entrie that is protected by the OS and will cause a advance inf failure (like Current Control or Services registry entries)

nuhi Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Uh you selected Components page just to manually remove these files:swtchbrd.bmpcliconfg.execliconfg.dlliexpress.exemoricons.dllpowercfg.exeThat is kinda tricky situation, manually removed files are to be tested. Please try in virtual PC without these or disable Components page if you won't remove any components.
ktyeo Posted December 24, 2007 Author Posted December 24, 2007 thkstracked and found a bad txtsetup.inf pointing to a missing folder(deleted) from sourcegood lesson learned.
