Weird Network Problem!

Ok so heres my network layout. http://i19.tinypic.com/869pk76.jpg

The goal is gettin the NAS device to work from the LAN but also from the WAN. The NAS has a built in ftp server. So thats the goal to get working from LAN and WAN. Now, the ftp works connecting via 192.168.1.4. But when trying from the outside world it doesnt work. Even when forwarding port 21 to 192.168.1.4 from the main router(192.168.1.1)

The only way ive gotten it to work, which i find this weird. Is when i plug a second cat5 cable into the WAN port of hte NAS and then configure that to have a static IP of 192.168.1.5, and forward to that ip.

So, that works? What are you trying to do next?

what kind of NAS is it?

foward port 20 and 21 to the NAS, both are required for FTP

port 20 is for the data and port 21 is flow control i believe, then you shouldnt need to bother with the WAN side of the NAS box

doesnt matter eyeball, couldnt make any connection to it from the outside without setting up the wan side too.
