As cluberti said, they still use a key...you just don't put it in during install. Instead you enter the key at the time of Activation.

Indeed, some stories got mixed up on the net .

The XP versions that I got here in Mexico are still the “older” versions that will ask for the key when installing, so I wasn’t sure about it.
