Replacing the Internet Explorer "Find Files and Folders" Sea

Featured Replies

I am running Windows XP SP2 on my "family" computer, and I wondered if there was a way to replace the standard Internet Explorer-based search utility with a Windows 98SE style one?

just open search and after the dog does his stupid little animation click 'change preferences' then 'turn off animated character' then 'change prefences again and pick 'change files and folder search behavior' and select advanced

you can also turn indexing off to if you want. I think thats the closest you can get to a 98 style search without adding other software

Well, I want to rid of IE search altogether, and if I have to use other software, so be it.

The reason I ask is because I remeber my brother was once able to replace the search with the 98-style one, and I never found out how he did it.

So what kind of software is there available?

Better yet, could I replace the XP search with the one from 98? (I have a 98SE CD)

i doubt you could outright replace it. best option you will probably get is to hide it and use an alternate program (bonus point to anyone that would know how to ''hook' it to the F3 key in explorer or startmenu shorcut) -i know it can be done -Directory Opus does it and i think copernic does too

This Looks like the author statred with 98 search in mind but it may have more fetures than your looking for:

or there are commercial options:

O, I checked the free version of the software you gave me, and it's missing a lot of features like drag and drop.

So there goes that option :(

I still want to try replacing it with the 98 search. My brother did it before, I remeber.

What files control the search utility in XP and 98SE? If the two are incompatible, is it possible to use the search from NT 4 perhaps?

regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\srchasst\srchui.dll

-gosh
