Regarding: Dotnet 3.5 beta 2

I had dotNet 2.0 on my computer and I wanted to learn how to do a silent install of dotNet 3.0. I looked around and found the silent install switches for “2.0” --- /q:a /c:install /l /q --- so I looked for “3.0” to download and see if I could use the same switches to make a cab for “3.0”. Don’t ask how, but I was doing a Google search and somehow stumbled across: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Beta 2, here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en I said what the heck, normally I don’t want to mess with a ‘beta’ but I just wanted to learn how to make a cab. And I really didn’t expect it to work the first time anyway. I downloaded the “dotNetFx35setup.exe” 2.6MB file, used the nlite addon maker to make my cab. The ’switches’ worked, the cab was made and after I uninstalled ’2.0’, I used the ‘cab’ to begin the installation of ‘3.5‘. Based on observation and keeping tabs of task manager and event viewer, it took 17 minutes to install on my windows xp pro. Nothing else was happening while this was taking place.

The reason for my post, is ‘what’ was installed. According to ‘add & remove programs’, the previous “2.0” was 88.36MB’s. That’s all.

This “3.5” installed the following:

Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 -- 186.00MB

Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 -- 167.00MB

Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 (Pre-Release Version) -- 24.59MB

MSXML 6.0 Parser (KB927977) -- 1.53MB

Wow! I didn’t expect that. Since this was all installed together, I assume I need it all. Maybe some of you experts know how to ‘repackage’ this and make a cab that doesn’t install all of this. If its not ‘all’ needed, that is? I didn’t test this on a ‘virtual pc’, but I assume it would have installed correctly, since it did install silently on my computer. Maybe I shouldn’t assume. LOL.
