Hi Guys,

at first I have to say, that you really do a great job with your excellent work. Thanks ! I am Martin from Germany and a bloody beginner on this site. Maybe I am one of the last guys, who use win98se. Cause I intend to buy a bigger HD (160GB), I am looking for the ultimate answer, if my K7VZA 3.0 actually supports 48 bit-lba or not. I have already flashed the latest Bios version 3.7a from ECS, but I am not so sure. Since version 3.6 this should work ("Update to patch 137GB H.D. limitation"). Does anyone made own experience with the K7VZA 3.0 and bigger HDs? Would be very helpful for me before I start to test with Esdi_506.pdr-files (==> Win98SE).

Many greetz from Germany

Martin

Hello, welcome to the MSFN forums.

I’m sure no one will answer your question like this. You have to check it your self, borrow a HDD, a 160GB or so, from some one just to see if the PC "sees" the HDD right...

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not so pessimistic like you right now. This forum is pretty huge. So the chances are not so bad that someone can help me. If not, I will try to help myself.

I did some quick searching around Google and the motherboard should support 48-bit LBA with BIOS version 3.6 and higher. I don't know if you'll get Win98SE to install on it though. Windows 2000 won't even install on it without doing some manual work on the installation media.

I never heard of that with older motherboards. That sounds like because of the HDD being SATA.

If it's still PATA, it should be fine.
