Glenn9999 Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Where can I find Windows Movie Maker (ME Version) for Windows 98?Alright, I'll put this topic to bed...The only place you're going to find it is in a install of Windows ME. Any other place would be warez since there are no publicly available links to it to download.Sounds like you're out of luck.
awergh Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 The only place you're going to find it is in a install of Windows ME.not true, movie maker can be installed as part of 98se2me.admitedly you need winme to use it.but you want it for 98fe and there is an api missing in 98se but im not sure about thatyou should ask mdgx about movie maker because it works with kernelex from ages agoand it is part of 98se2me last time i used it
computerwizkid Posted September 22, 2007 Author Posted September 22, 2007 To:MDGX and awergh:What version of KernelEX was it?
awergh Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 not really sure but it was an early version i think it was when it was still called kernel update project
computerwizkid Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 To MDGX:What version of Kernel Update Project was it?
MDGx Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 98SE2ME installs Movie Maker (MM) exe(cutable) from WinME CD-ROM/CABs [if you have them] only as part of option 3.This has nothing to do with KernelEx.I have not tested KernelEx with MM exe on 98 SE/ME.If you d/l + install 98SE2ME, you can see PATMM.EXE in C:\9!M :http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349O3.BAT can be opened in Notepad and contains the lines you can see that install moviemk.exe [patched WinME exe] by recreating the exe from patmm.exe, but only if you have original moviemk.exe from WinME CD/CABs.Patched MM exe can be downloaded here:http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#WME* Microsoft Windows ME Movie Maker MOVIEMK.EXE 1.0.1377.0 Fix:http://support.microsoft.com/?id=262806Direct download [449 KB, English]:http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...75D567C1451.EXEThis is from 98SE2ME READ1ST.TXT:http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/read1st.php* Option 3:installs newer WinME system files [Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI),Explorer, Shell, Dialog, Folders, Web Browser, Fonts, Effects, Documents,Scrap + Network Drives Integration Controls, OLE DLLs + APIs + Movie Maker]from WinME CABs into:=> %windir% [usually C:\WINDOWS]:- Windows Explorer = EXPLORER.EXE 5.50.4134.100=> %windir%\SYSTEM [usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM]:- Common Dialog 32-bit Control = COMDLG32.DLL 5.50.4134.100- Active IMM Server = DIMM.DLL 5.00.3000.1- OLE DOCument Properties = DOCPROP.DLL 5.00.2136.1- OLE DOCument Properties 2 = DOCPROP2.DLL 5.00.2136.1- Fonts Folder Control = FONTEXT.DLL 4.90.3000- My DOCuments Folder Control = MYDOCS.DLL 5.50.4134.100- Map Network Drives/Network Places Wizard = NETPLWIZ.DLL 5.00.2136.1- Effects Control = PLUSTAB.DLL 5.00.2136.1- Patched WinME Shell 32-bit Control = SHELL32.DLL 5.50.4134.120:http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=84451available at:http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU- Shell Scrap Object Handler = SHSCRAP.DLL 5.00.2136.1- Customize Folder Wizard = IESHWIZ.EXE 5.50.4134.100- Patched WinME Web View Control = WEBVW.DLL 5.50.4134.7069:http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms05-049.mspxavailable at:http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU=> %windir%\WEB [usually C:\WINDOWS\WEB]:- Patched WinME Windows Explorer thumbnail pic view IMGVIEW.HTT = fixedJavaScript errors using Notepad.IMPORTANT:ALL option 3 files above MUST be installed TOGETHER OR NOT AT ALL because ofinterdependencies!=> C:\Program Files\MoviMakr [default]:MOVIEMK.CHMFTPINFO.DAT <= WinME CD modded using NotepadWMMFILT.DLLWMMRES.DLLWMMUTIL.DLLMOVIEMK.EXE 1.0.1377.0 <= WinME Q262806FTPINFO.SHP <= WinME CD modded using Notepad=> C:\Program Files\MoviMakr\TOUR :MMTOUR.CSSTOUR.HTATOUR.ICO=> C:\Program Files\MoviMakr\TOUR\AUDIO :AUDIO1.HTMAUDIO2.HTMAUDIO3.HTMAUDIO4.HTMSILENCE.HTMAUDIO1.WAVAUDIO2.WAVAUDIO3.WAVAUDIO4.WAV=> C:\Program Files\MoviMakr\TOUR\ECMA :LOC.JSSCRIPT.JS=> C:\Program Files\MoviMakr\TOUR\IMAGES :BLUGRAD.BMPAUDIO.GIFBLUGRAD.GIFCAMCORD.GIFCLR.GIFCLRBLK01.GIFCLRBLK02.GIFCLRBLK03.GIFCLRBLK04.GIFCOMPUTER.GIFEDIT.GIFFOLDER.GIFGRYLINE.GIFLINKS.GIFMAIL.GIFMIC.GIFMMLOGO.GIFMVCMPTR.GIFMVFLDR.GIFMVMAIL.GIFMVWEB.GIFNOAUDIO.GIFPAUSE.GIFPLAY.GIFWVFRM.GIF=> C:\Program Files\MoviMakr\TOUR\SHOWME :SAMPLE.ASFEDITSOON.GIFMMRECORD.GIFOLD_EDIT.GIFORGNZ.GIFSHARE.GIFASF.HTMIMPORTANT:WinME Movie Maker MUST be installed ONLY TOGETHER with WinME COMDLG32.DLL +SHELL32.DLL because of interdependencies! How to use Movie Maker:Start button -> Programs -> Accessories -> Multimedia -> run "Movie Maker"shortcut.Backup NOT necessary because original files NOT replaced. All option 3 files install ONLY as SEPARATE option with Control PanelAdd/Remove Programs RESTORE function in case of errors/lockups.Option 3 REQUIRES you to ALREADY have:- WinME Retail/Final/Gold/RTM Full/Upgrade/Step-Up/OEM/MSDN 4.90.3000 Englishsetup CD-ROM inside your 1st CD/DVD drive (if more than 1)- OR ALL WinME *.CAB files ANYWHERE on your local disk(s)/partition(s) intothe SAME directory/folder!- Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer ALREADY installed:http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#IEXI STRONGLY recommend to install options 1 or 2 BEFORE installing option 3.CAUTION:WinME files installed by option 3 may change and/or lose Win98 SE interfacefunctionality, stability and/or performance! How to install option 3:Start button -> Programs -> 98SE2ME -> "98SE2ME.PIF - computerwizkid Posted September 29, 2007 Author Posted September 29, 2007 (edited) So dare I ask the question,Can I run Windows Movie Maker 2 on 98.WMM2 is free!! It doesn't if I have to use KernelEX,Its that I want to reedit movie trailers and post on the internet. The other video-editng programs are just plain bull**** expect IMovie but only works on a Mac.And I do not have a Windows ME CD. Andrew T. Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 If you can't get Movie Maker running and are desperate to edit video content, try looking for an old Microsoft app called videdit.exe. It's a rather simplistic AVI editor from the Windows 3.1 era with a few bugs, but for what little video-clip editing I do it works fine.
BenoitRen Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Andrew, it doesn't seem to be available from the Internet. Can you upload it somewhere, please?
computerwizkid Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 Nah,I downloaded that once and HATE IT.It is so simplistic and I need a complex editing program. So,Is there a way to run Windows Movie Maker 2 in Windows 98?
Glenn9999 Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 So,Is there a way to run Windows Movie Maker 2 in Windows 98?Don't think so. Stuff like VirtualDub or ABC Videoroll won't work for you?

Ambassador Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) You really don't have to go through all this trouble. To get WMM from WUPG98, run the installer so that it extracts the nessesary files to a folder on the computer, but cancel setup before it actually begins to install (the part when it swtichs to DOS command prompts). Then, go to the folder where the files were extracted, find the WMM folder, and copy it to your computer.Of course, you can always you free Video Editing software, like ZS4, Avid Free DV, VirtualDub, and plenty others. I actually have a list of urls of windows movie maker replacements, so I could post that if you wanted. Edited October 30, 2007 by Ambassador
eidenk Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Forget about ZS4 on 9x really. Current version doesn't even initialize it's GUI here and older version are more than a tad buggy.Best freeware multitrack video editor is Wax IMO.
