This fault certainly happens because of a bug in the software IMO.

I am not aware of a generic bug in Windows 98 which creates problems when closing MDI windows.

I just tried the demo application, running the aforementioned script, and everything went fine, no GPF, crash or anything, on my Win98SE.

However, I have installed a GDI update manually (from WinME CD-ROM) and then some other upgrade from MDGx' site, that takes both gdi32.dll and gdi.exe to 4.90.3003.
