Hi

Just was hoping that some1 could share some light into my problem. We have a 2003 server pc. But everytime we try to open My Computer it freezes and closes down. Have tried to contact people but with no luck thus far. If any 1 has any idea y this is happening pls let me know..

That's probably something 3rd party hooking into the shell. Look at event viewer, try safe mode.

i have heard that some times your anti-virus can lock into the shell and shut windows down. For example our second server had an antivirus as soon as it loads windows crashes. also been told that spyware can be a factor but checked everything.

does it occur in safe mode as mentioned? that would be the first thing to try.

if so then disable everything one by one until you find the culprit, such as antivirus, spyware protection, firewalls, maybe run a rootkit scan since you have virus protection see if that yields any results

Thank you very much all of you for your input. The problem is that this is one of our main servers so now need to find some downtime. If any1 has any other inputs pls shout so i can give it a go..

Download and run ShellExView, and disable all non-Microsoft items listed. Log off to kill explorer.exe, and then log back on to reload explorer without the shell extensions. That might be enough to fix it.
