IcemanND Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Run chkdsk from a bartpe or Windows PE cd, then you can see all the messages.
[deXter] Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 CHKDSK at boot time stores logs messages to C:\bootex.logAfter logon, it's moved to the Application Event Log. To view the log: • Open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Application Log • In the log look for Autochk in the Source column. • Double click on the appropriate line and you’ll view the last chkdsk results.

iceangel89 Posted September 15, 2007 Author Posted September 15, 2007 ok... ran chkdsk in BartPE until no errors, but when i go in Windows and chkdsk, errors appeared again, and in BartPE also, then fix > no probs (in BartPE) then in Windows again! its a loop!by the way, i also tried fixmbr & fixboot (in Windows Recovery Console) didn't fix anything also but fixmbr seems to always report a "non-standard MBR" even after a fixmbr Thanks
iceangel89 Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 now when i do a chkdsk n BartPE, no errors but in XP there is... i dunno if i restart and do 1 in Bart will 1 appear but... is it XP starting can cause problems with scandisk?i did a SMART check in BIOS which gives no errors (what HP told me to do) - what does it checks actually? the HDD indicators dont blink.will a format be just a short term solution? cos if the "Bad" part is not used, no errors will appear right?
xlfdll Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 It semms to be a index logical error occured in the partition..."This is not a valid Win32 application" means the Win32 EXE file has lost some header part...However,it is not a physical drive hardware error...Never Mind.
iceangel89 Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 so it means if i do a format its likely to solve the problem?for your info, this is fixed from a once unbootable partition, marked as BAD in Partition Magic (so refuses to resize/delete/format until i did a /ipe switch in partition magic) but fixed using a low level format - dunno if this didn't really fix it... mmm ... dont mind formatting but my brother does. i am wiping out his files

iceangel89 Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 this is the last chkdsk... after a clean install of XP (which is fine when i first do chkdsk with no progs). then after installing progs... i do 1 more and get The type of the file system is NTFS.Volume label is WINDOWS.WARNING! iceangel89 Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 discovered something new!on a clean XP install = no problemson this clean install, install Firefox = no problemsuse firefox = MFT problems appearsurf, i think so that cache fills = deleting indexes...do u ppl using firefox have this problem also?on another comp, with Firefox installed also i also have the same problem
xlfdll Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Sorry...reply late...I'm not sure why this situation appears...If me, I would format this partition completely because chkdsk sometimes cannot fully fix the error in my computer-fixing days...Format is a complete scheme to fix this kind of errors, I think (a little cruel:( )After formatting the partition, clean install Windows XP...(I suggest not installing the system without formatting the partition...)and...another comp will appear the same error? Is it the same HDD?and... Better not use low level format (NOT Complete Formatting), except facing a really hardware fault...By the way, could you post what hard disk you are using?I want to see if I can find something...
