ripken204 Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 Well watch your temp's when you overclock, the Q6600 has a TDP of 105 W vs the E6600 I have with a TDP of 65 W.With my overclock to 3.4GHZ I'm just about at you stock TDP and with my Scythe Infinity with dual 84 cfm fans running full speedmy cores idle at 48ºC, 55º gaming and 60º TAT 15 minutes.Oops, now I see - G0 stepping TDP of only 95W.ya the G0 is a little better when it comes to temp, no much. if i am going to overclock with stock cooling, it wont be much. i'm basically waiting for parts to come in stock for the water cooling.
ripken204 Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 well i've been thinking about hard drives and i've decided to just buy another 320GB drive for now, can't RAID it yet since i will lose all of the data on my current 320GB drive.. then i'll just wait till the 7200.11 500GB 32MB cache drive comes out and i'll check into getting that, then i will put my 2x320GB drives in RAID0. does that sound like a plan
Zxian Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Hang on a sec....If you're not going to actually use the second drive now, why buy it now? Western Digital and Seagate are both going to release 1TB drives in the next few months, and when they do, it'll drive down the prices of 320GB and 500GB drives. Save your money and wait a while... especially if you're not going to use the drive.EDIT - Another thing... I also prefer WD drives for another reason - power consumption. WD drives draw less power than similar spec'ed Seagates. Lower power means less heat means lower temperatures. Lower temperatures leads to longer lasting drives. All 5 of my hard drives in my file server are running at 30C right now. The two drive cages I have each have a 120mm YateLoon fan running at 6V. The 200GB 7200.7 drive I have is running at 35C right next to the WD2500KS. You figure out the rest.
ripken204 Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) well i just bought it and i do need the space.right now i have a 320gb and an 80gb drive. im selling my 80gb drive, its pretty crappy anways. therefore i need to put the data on there somewhere. it's only $80 for a 320gb at newegg so im not complaining.and power consumption? how much better is it? 1-2 watts? that's not much of a temp difference there. my hdds are also running at ~30C, as long as there is a fan nearby they will be good. What's the point in trying to help you out. jcarle, memnoch, and I have all given you suggestions and solid information, and you seem to toss it to the four winds.
ripken204 Posted August 18, 2007 Author Posted August 18, 2007 um, what information of yours did i not listen to, besides waiting?
jcarle Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 um, what information of yours did i not listen to, besides waiting?Umm... P5K is a problem board. P5K vs P5B. Pioneer vs Samsung. 4x1GB vs 2x2GB. Q6600 vs E6750. P180 vs Lian-Li.
ripken204 Posted August 18, 2007 Author Posted August 18, 2007 ya i already bought the comp and we have already discussed those, so how is that not listening to you?
jcarle Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 ya i already bought the comp and we have already discussed those, so how is that not listening to you?I think you didn't learn the same English that we did.

Zxian Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 @ripken - See... you went ahead and bought the system BEFORE consulting the rest of us. That's your choice to make of course, but you should realize that people are often going to have different suggestions. You're the only person that I can think of in the past few months who went ahead and bought a system before posting here. vegettoxp, eyeball, FabulousFred, RJM, Messerschmitt, and myself - we all asked questions about our systems before we went ahead and bought the damned things. I think that I know quite a bit about computers, but I'll still consult my friends and MSFN before spending my money. Thinking back on my file server - I've put about $1600 into that system alone, and I can say with confidence that it's worth every bloody penny. For your setup - I feel like you could have done better. The sad part about this thread is that it's too late to do anything about it. You've already spent your money, and to be honest, I think you're taking a $230 risk with the P5K Premium. You've also spent more money than you need to on RAM (4x1GB is cheaper than 2x2GB, and would be better for your system). The Lian-Li case... inverted ATX systems aren't really all that they claimed to be thermally. Sure you're going for water cooling eventually, but you could have found a better case for that. Even though I don't like the looks of it - the CMStacker 832.
Nerwin Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Come on guys, why you guys keep on arugeing? I think Ripkens computer is like awesome! its like a computer I always dreamed of, its simple and easy, you know the same thing happens to me as well, I wanna posts something that I am thinking to order and I get people telling me NO NO it sucks, Its ugly, well we all have taste, I like ABIT mobos, and I hate INTEL Mobo and ASUS. and you know DDR3 sucks right now, So what you could get a faster CPU but it may not be as stable. So yeah this might not make sense but what ever just come on people, its a COMPUTER. just take a break. and Have fun!

Even though I don't like the looks of it - the CMStacker 832.i consented many people about my parts, i didnt just pick random parts. i knew you guys would do this so thats why i didnt make a thread here. and i will say this again, the premium version fixed alot of the bugs that the deluxe and others have. why would 4x1 be better for my system, what exactly does that mean? i have a friend who works for mushkin, he know ALOT about memory. the set that i am getting is very good, i have seen many reviews/benchmarks of it. im not getting the case for the inverted atx, i never said that i was. i love the looks of the case, it has plenty of space, and it is a high quality case, and i am getting a good deal on it.and zxian, if you feel like i could have done better, then why do you continue to attack me? there is no reason for that. as a moderator you should know better.im through with this thread, you guys ruined it. Zxian Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 i consented many people about my parts, i didnt just pick random parts. i knew you guys would do this so thats why i didnt make a thread here. and i will say this again, the premium version fixed alot of the bugs that the deluxe and others have. You knew "we guys" would do what? Suggest that you get different and possibly better hardware? What's wrong with making a suggestion? Sure, you consulted (not consented) many people about your parts, but again, you got some different opinions when you came here. It's not because we're idiots, or nor are we calling your friends idiots - just more information to base your money on.why would 4x1 be better for my system, what exactly does that mean? i have a friend who works for mushkin, he know ALOT about memory. the set that i am getting is very good, i have seen many reviews/benchmarks of it.<ripken204> Mushkin HP2-6400 5-4-4-12 2x2GB (2GB is just not enough for me )<Zxian> Why did you get 2x2GB? Wouldn't 4x1GB be considerably cheaper?<ripken204> 2x2GB=better overclocking, less heat, less stress on motherboard, future expandability if needed.Better overclocking? No. Memory PCB surface area is fixed. So the more memory you include on the same stick, the higher the density of the chip circuitry. The higher the density, the less resistance and distance there is between circuits, the higher the change for "signal leaks" and "data corruption". So no, overclocking is not better, it gets worse. 2GB modules run much hotter then 1GB modules for the same reasons as above. Stress on the motherboard is irrelevant. The only things that "stress" a motherboard are heat and age. If anything, increasing the heat generated by your modules will reduce lifespan, not increase it. Future expandibilty is a non issue. By the time you'd even possibly consider moving beyond 4GB of memory, you'd already have changed technologies.Need I say more? You kinda just jumped over that without blinking.im not getting the case for the inverted atx, i never said that i was. i love the looks of the case, it has plenty of space, and it is a high quality case, and i am getting a good deal on it.*shrugs* If that's really what you want, then that's fine. There are other cases that have plenty of space, and are high quality - I just haven't seen why you chose that over some of the other large cases.
