ok bare with me here im some what familiar with computers but im not an expert.

ok i have a gateway laptop with windows xp pro , coure due 2 2 gigs ram and the intel express graphics card 945GM, i recently got windows vista, and wanted to test it out on my laptop, installed succesfully .. so now i wanted to update my video cards drivers , uninstalled the old 945GM driver and then installed the new one. after install was complete i was prommted to reboot so i did, upon reboot i was greeted with nothing but a black screen, i could hear windows start and all but it was all black. i was stuck couldent do anything. so i booted up in safe mode and it worked. i eventually had to reinstall windows. and said screw vista,(figured vista is the problem) installed XP pro again and installed the xp pro version of the sam driver. boom happend again, Black screen on reboot.

i called intel and they gave me no help, after sitting on the phone for 20 min on hold they told me to refer to there website which i told them i already did with no help and they told me they couldent help me go figure.

so any help would be great. i already had to reinstall windows twice, getting pretty angry.

OK FIRST THINGS FIRST. HAVE YOU TRIED THE MONITOR with another computer that boots up Ok

have you tried a different..... opps just realised ita alappy top.

OK have you tried hookig up a spare monitor to the lap top and see if that helps.

sounds like your drivers are screwwed

this happened to me on a desktop and i thought it was the monitor but turned out the video card was goosed even though it all booted up OK.

try to get back to basic settings in the bios.

do you get any thing whatso ever on boot up - i.e. can you see to get f8 to cmos settings.

Boot in safe mode, set resolution to low, then reboot in normal mode and set it to whatever your screen is supposed to be. Also check the screen's refresh rate.
