Roki Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Hey, thanks ahead of time to anyone who answers this. I'm a student in CISCO's CCNA Academy. Working towards taking my test and getting my cert sometime next year. I recently went on a bit of a spending spree to get myself some equipment for a mini-lab at home.To get to the meat of the question...I know that a router can perform DCE/DTE functions. Which as I understand it is basically the function of the modem my ISP supplied me with for my 3.0 Mbps DSL service. My question is, would it be possible for my wireless router (properly programmed) to fulfill that role? Would I need to call my ISP to get any specific information? I apologize if the above question does not provide adequate information for a full answer. If any additional information is needed, I'll be happy to supply it. =)
jcarle Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Most Home Routers have a built-in modem. I have personally never seen a router with a DSL modem built in.

jcarle Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 @jcarle - O RLY?http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=567Wow... they actually make that s***?
Biohead Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 (edited) Virtually EVERY router sold in the UK comes with a DSL modem, or more often, an ADSL modem built-in!!So if you get a modem with those capabilities (and get it setup correctly - that task varies on how cruel your ISP is), you should be fine. jcarle Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 I guess in Canada we're spoiled since more then half the population uses high-speed cable modems.
