eyeball Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 i notice that the path you are using is H:\ can you run it from the C drive? and see if that helps?
cucolinwin Posted August 8, 2007 Author Posted August 8, 2007 That is when I run it from the CD. I will copy the file to the C drive and let you know what happens
nmX.Memnoch Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 (edited) Just so we're clear on what eyeball is asking you to do...you need to extract the SP2 package and run update.exe manually. By default when you run a hotfix or service pack without extracting it, it automatically uses the (local) drive with the most available space. To extract the package, run this command:WindowsServer2003-KB914961-SP2-x86-ENU.exe /X:C:\Srv03SP2Once you do that then run this:C:\Srv03SP2\update\update.exe Edited August 8, 2007 by nmX.Memnoch
cucolinwin Posted August 8, 2007 Author Posted August 8, 2007 (edited) I followed your steps and even got the Inspecting your system window and got to click 'Next' twice, but then I got again:"The Service Pack2 c:\SP2\i366\update\update.inf file is not correct"This is the head of that update.inf file: Not sure if this can help in any way. cluberti Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Windows update is broken? Please explain...of course it is broke, didn't anyone tell you cluberti I guess I missed it. I'm always the last to know these things...
cucolinwin Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 So, do you guys think there is a solution for this?
eyeball Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 is this installation altered in anyway? such as with nlite or manually?thanks
cucolinwin Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 This installation is NOT altered in any way. I'm just clicking on the Windows Update link and I have also downloaded the file to my HD and tried running it from there. As I indicated above I'm still getting the same error. thanks
gosh Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Try this:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813442Second, go into the admin tool for com, and click on the computer icon on the top right. This will bring up the global settings for com. Go through this and make sure everything is default, such as the permissions.
cucolinwin Posted August 14, 2007 Author Posted August 14, 2007 (edited) Got it! I did NOT notice the thumbnail. thankssorry for the delay, I will work on this today and will let you know Edited August 14, 2007 by cucolinwin
cucolinwin Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 Again same error! I followed all the steps in that article and your suggestions gosh! thanks. Does Microsoft provide support for this? I don't know what else to do! thanks
killerb255 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Here's a workaround:1) Back up all your data first 'cause if this doesn't work, you've gone from being inconvenienced to being in deep doo-doo. If you're not willing to take that risk, stop here. Otherwise, read on.2) Slipstream SP2 on your installation media.3) Do an in-place upgrade. That should repair whatever files are messed up as well as upgrade you to SP2. If you have IE7 installed on your machine, then you will need to slipstream that on your installation media as well or you'll REALLY have problems...
cucolinwin Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 I assume I did this as I indicated in one of my posts. I downloaded the SP2 file and try to run it locally and still got the same error. If you mean something else, let me know. I don't have IE7. thanks!
gosh Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 one other idea i had was to reinstall com. you can do this by editing sysoc.inf, removing the hide fromcom=comsetup.dll,OcEntry,comnt5.inf,hide,7Then use add/remove windows components and uncheck and check it to reinstall comAnother possible option is to reset the default permissions using setup security.inf, which is a dynamic file created by xp setup.http://www.le.ac.uk/cc/dsss/docs/acls3.shtmlmicrosoft does email support, you can try that.-gosh
