chiners_68
Im currently running a RIS setup for all my XP automated instals. WDS from what ive read is an update to ris for deploying images of XP & Vista. I at present would want to run this in mixed mode as I want my feresh RIS installs for XP & not images which are HAL restricted.Where does BDD2007, WAIK & WINPE link into WDS or vice versa.?Later on this year im moving to System Centre Configuration Manager(new SMS), where would the above products link into that..? SoerenDahl
WinPE is the boot image that support 32-bitWAIK is a Microsoft tool that he help you editing images including the boot.wim which is the WinPE bootimage.BDD2007 is the OS tool Microsoft released to replace RIS.Dont know WDS...I dont like BDD2007, I prefer OS Deployment fra Capasystems which is much faster and easier to use. The new 5.0 version aint ready for public release yet.
chiners_68
WDS is the repalcment for RIS. BDD2007 links in with this but I didnt know how. Microsft documentation is not very good at getting to the point on explaining it all. Edited August 9, 2007 by chiners_68
p4ntb0y
well the new SMS 2005 I think will include the abilty to send out just delta changes to a wim and not send the whole wim out.Ris is being phased out with WDS but you can still have Legacy support with Ris.The BDD 2007 has taken over BDD2.5 and comes in time for Vista and the WAIK.Oh and why do you have images restricted to HAL? Kingskawn
What will be the fastest way to deploy an image to a client (over LAN)??
p4ntb0y
It all depends on your bandwidth and your hardware1000mb switches are obviously good and then you could tftp a sdi image of winpe down and then pull a image to your client. There are so many ways of doing this.If you had multi cast then all your clients would respond at the same time thus saving you timeNot know what level you are at and what you have makes it a bit hard to answer your question. Every company has its restrictions so it depends.
chiners_68
Oh and why do you have images restricted to HAL?you can get round XP HAL's but its much easier to RISETUP with XP on ris.switching to WDS i will go mixed mode so i still have the RISSETUP capability as once you go native WDS you only get Image capabilty with WIM images.Does BBD2007 link in with WDS or they similar but seperately used products..?Im looking at going to the new SMS (System Centre configuration manager 2007)
