eddie11013 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I'm planning on making a new nlite CD and since I basically only listen to "my music", I was wondering if it was necessary to install 'any' Windows Media Player. Just going with Foobar. While surfing, will I start running into 'issues' when I want to see a 'video' from YouTube or whatever. when I make my new CD, can I basically 'not' install any windows media component and just slipstream "Foobar". thanks for any guidance,Eddie
DeepAnger Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Hi,I don't remember the last time I've used a MS spyware, hmmm, I mean media player. I use Opera as a web browser and Real Alternative with Media Player Classic. The only codecs installed are the latest ffdshow and Windows Media Lite. I also sometimes use VLC with its own embedded codecs. My computer can play almost everything. Of course I'm a music lover who uses foobar2000 for years and I also like HD videos. My conclusion is that you can really ignore microsoft's spyware media players.Greetings.
XIII Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 foobar2000 is my main player, but I need WMP for the few audio tracks (WMA-files) I bought that are protected by DRM.(I prefer to buy my music on CD and rip it to MP3, but some songs are only available as download)
anonymous_user Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I remove WMP and then install Windows Media Lite (for windows media codecs).
eddie11013 Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 Guess it was not meant to be. After installing 'only' Foobar, I kept running into 'issues'. Yes Foobar works, but then I needed the 'runtime' thingy, and then to play some online video's I needed to either install the media lite or windows media, etc. What was the point. I made a new 'CD', with wmp11 and everything works fine. Just an FYI, I ran into the same issue with a pdf reader. Everyone said you didn't need Adobe Reader, to just use "Foxit" something. I uninstalled Adobe and used "Fox", then came tax time. I could not print out the reports, it would only work with Adobe. When things are geared to the big boys, yes you can make it work without them, but what's the point. Why go through all these gyrations to just avoid something that we all know works. Especially when its free anyway.Anyway, thanks for everyones input.Eddie
