uiplanner Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 When I am typing using Internet Explorer 7 (Version 7.0.5730.11), some keystrokes are not registered and don't show up - this happens when I'm typing in a form, an input box or entering a URL address. Typically it's about 1 of every 15 keystokes, but it's definitely variable. If I am very deliberate and slow down my typing, it's not a problem. A likely related issue is that my text cursor blinks in an erradic manner in IE 7. This is not a problem in non-IE applications (Word, Excel, etc.) I have run Spybot and Adware checking for malware, and found nothing. If it matters, I'm running XP Media Center.Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
cluberti Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 As silly as it sounds, can you reproduce this issue in safe mode w/ networking?
Woomera Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 As silly as it sounds, can you reproduce this issue in safe mode w/ networking?Man can you please say why you think that would help? i dont know anything about safe mode with networking.
gpctexas Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I actually had this same problem happen the other day. Another symptom I had was https was not working. I got mine working by re registering some dllsstart/runcmdcd %systemroot%\system32regsvr32 softpub.dllregsvr32 wintrust.dll regsvr32 initpki.dllregsvr32 dssenh.dll regsvr32 rsaenh.dll regsvr32 gpkcsp.dllregsvr32 sccbase.dllregsvr32 slbcsp.dll regsvr32 cryptdlg.dllWhen I ran them, 2 dll gave me errors
uiplanner Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 (edited) That is a silly question BUT, the problem does not happen in safe mode with networking. What's that mean? FYI - I use the free security software offered by my ISP (Cox High Speed). As silly as it sounds, can you reproduce this issue in safe mode w/ networking? Edited July 1, 2007 by uiplanner
uiplanner Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 (edited) I am not currently having any issues with https (other than the keystrokes randomly not registering in https as wel). I did successfully update the dlls (no errors), but it did not change my problem. Thanks for the input!I actually had this same problem happen the other day. cluberti Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 If it happens in regular boot but not in safe mode, then it's either an explorer.exe shell extension, a startup item, or a driver causing this issue (none of those things load in safe mode). You can disable all non-Microsoft shell extensions with ShellExView, disable all non-Microsoft startup items with Autoruns, but as for drivers, you have to determine which applications that have drivers you want to uninstall (antivirus, antispyware, backup, firewall, and most security packages all load kernel-mode filter drivers). Note that disabling these applications doesn't remove their kernel-mode filter driver, only uninstallation. If it works in safe mode as expected, one of those three things are the culprit (or perhaps a combination).
uiplanner Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 OK, blast from the past on this one, but I thought I'd follow up in case anyone else ran into this problem. I seem to have addressed the problem by running Sysinternals Autoruns and Googling all the different files that popped up. I found a couple of files published by Data Encryption Systems that I turned off:1) DNHelper32.exe2) Dk2drv.sysThe DNHelper32.exe was identified as a trojan or virus / spyware at several sites I found. Thanks for the help.
