  1. bump (its already at the top LoL) and update: http://www.paradicesoftware.com/specs/cpui...uidtroubles.htm it seems like cyrix cpu's have the CPUID function but its disabled by default, theres a small app to enable it, i will try and report as soon as i can, this may be useful for someone
  2. ok just found this: http://www.houseofhelp.com/v2/showthread.php?t=29411 like i guessed, the cyrix processor actually supports even DX9, but it wont install cause the cyrix processor doesnt support the CPUID, so it reports itself as a 486 (486 processors are obiously the really unsupported ones )
  3. well i think the title says it all, the problem is that i need to install directx 8 (or newer, 8 will be ok), but it says that i need a pentium-type or k6 processor when trying to install (i have a cyrix processor, i think its compatible (enough speed, enough instruction sets) but my windows identifies it as Intel 80486), and im searching for a way to bypass the minimum system requirements, or change the processor info, or install manually (already tried by extracting the files of the .exe, copy to system folder and install all the extracted .inf/register all extracted dll's, but it worked partially.. not good enough to run dx apps) any ideas? or dx8 is really not compatible with my processor edit: forgot to menction that its one of the cyrix that supports mmx-enhanced
  4. windows 98 "tuned edition" r0x0r my b0x0r in my old pc and about the security problem i dont really care cause i dont have internet on that pc, and in this one i use xp.. , anyway you cant say that 98 is BS, cause sometimes is way better than xp, though i prefer xp for compatibility reasons...
  5. [spam_mode] sorry for the 100% offtopic post, but i would not use firefox, is one of the worst browsers ever made (i dont know why people like it so much)... better use maxthon, it have dual engine (IE and Gecko, obiously not 1.9), its 100% compatible with windows 98 and have really low system requirements: Minimum Requirements 100MHz CPU 32MB RAM 4MB Free Hard Disk Space Microsoft Windows98 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 [/spam_mode]
  6. ok that kinda scares me, ill backup and format to see what happens... i dont think its the ram, but ill check it thanks for the help anyway UPDATE (dont wanted to bring topic to top): fixed the wmp error by reducing the windows memory to 46mb (it was set by default to 999mb - wtf?), cpufsb still not working
  7. yeah ive seen the details, but it just says "*** attempted to execute an invalid instruction in: unknown module" (or something like that), and alot of 0's.... i wanted to overclock the processor to see how far it can go (about +2 or 3mhz i guess ) but CPUFSB gives me the error anyway thats basically what i asked, if it was an error cause of the processor type or if theres a way to get it working (i think i readed somewhere that you cant upgrade a compaq 2200)
  8. make? sorry i dont understand that model is Compaq Presario 2200 and no i dont have installed the cyrix drivers, i will install them as soon as im able to reinstall windows 98, messed up the registry while "tuning" .. now im having some trouble cause i cant access the w98 cd-rom from dos, and explorer.exe dont work edit: it seems that these drivers are for audio/video, i already have the audio/video drivers
  9. Hey, i have an old computer in wich recently i installed windows 98se with the unsp2.1a, but some software that its supposed to work (ie. cpufsb, windows media player 7) just give me the "illegal operation" error, im wondering if this is cause the processor isnt pentium-type (its a cyrix mediagx), like i said, the pc have all the minimum requirements, but i cant get these programs to work (including rplite 4, havent tried the 3) anyone have any idea of whats happening? (if isnt cause of the processor type) PS. sorry for my bad english
