  1. It should create a folder call WINDOWS on your C Drive, navigate the folders and grab the DLLs and find the similar named folders in WINNT and drop them in there. I dont know if you have to register the DLL's with RegServer, I am assuming so.

I really need ImageResizer for Windows 2000 Pro ! Can anyone help me? I tried changing the number in the MSI file to 500, it installs but theres no Resize Image text when I rightclick an image.......
  2. There is some theming software out there but its not freeware. Its seems most of the GUI enhancement and Windows 2000 updates on this site are pretty much dad.

    Hey guys,

I'm sorry if this is a really easy/difficult question, or one that's been asked before, but I was wondering, is it possible to make a Windows 2000 install that looks like Windows XP - I mean with the ol' green start bar, and the general Windows XP theme and appearance? I suppose it would be possible running third party software, but is it possible to integrate the components directly from Windows XP, so you don't have to run anything else?

  3. Sounds like a Video card problem or may be Network performance issues

We have a profile at a remote location, a background stored at another location and a guest account for the users to login (which we have set several settings to secure the account).

Sometimes, especially after reboot, 90 % of the screen is black and only the top of the background is shown on top of the screen. If we refresh the screen (by pressing F5), the whole background gets visible.

Have anyone experienced anything like this?

  4. It happens in either or scenario. I did have the same problem but I had fixed it awhile ago. I found that tip on the web somewhere else

does this problem happen with older versions of windows installer? or newer ones? or even both? perhaps Win2000 users should install MSI 3.1 first, then install Gurgelmeyer's SP.
  5. Personally I generally dislike Download Accelerators but anyway, what OS and you may want to dump Sygate its been aquired by Symantec and no more free personal firewalls will exist from Norton., I personally like Jetico Personal Firewall

Yes. It still can't download. Please read my post. I don't know what it has done to the system but downloading is impossible.
  6. Im having a bit of difficulty trying to figure out what your question is? If you are talking simply privacy matters, when you move files to the recycle bin if they are of personal nature use Eraser, a free tool, to permanately delete the files. Your comments on IE and Network Shares ring true as long as when you get rid of the drives they are wiped.

    Hello,

I am hoping you can help me resolve a matter I have been discussing with others here. We have been discussing the process of how files are deleted and then restored under Win/2k verses Internet Explorer. It is my position:

    Win/2k

    1. A document or file is delete either on purpose or by accident. It is then placed in the recycle bin.

    2. If the recycle bin is cleared - the file to the "average" person is permanently deleted.

    3. External tools to Win/2k (i.e. restore2000) can then be used to "restore" the deleted document. Win/2k natively does not have a tool to restore a document or file once the recycle bin has been cleared.

    Internet Explorer

    1. IE keeps track of usage via history and if you will cookies. Also, any file downloaded is placed in the temporary internet file.

    2. You can clear history, cookies and the temporary internet files. Once cleared, there isn't anyway to track usage under IE.

    Network files

    1. Network files are permanently deleted. If they need to be restored, you should go to the backup tapes.

I would appreciate feedback on my position and additional clarification from all of you out there. I want to make sure I understand the whole process.

    Thanks

  7. Microsoft has all that information available on their web site just do a search

    Hi :hello:

licensing is not my thing so if i'm asking a stupid questions here, excuse me..

Where can i find the following information:

    OS LicenseType

    OS NumLicenses

OS Number of People actually using

    SQL NumLicenses

SQL Number of People actually using

I don't have the agreement number or the information required to trace this stuff through microsoft's lisensing site.

I did speak to someone from microsoft who said i could get some of this from Systems Management Console but we don;t have SMS so that ain't gonna help..

Anybody have some advise for me ? is there somekinda tool i could perhaps use ?

    Thank You!

  8. In short, NO. CAL's are Client Access Licenses that only log how many users can log onto the server. This does not affect IIS or SQL Server, just the actual server itself and only through a couple of uses such as a Domain Controller etc. Microsoft still sells Per User licenses and its up to the administrator to make sure that they have the appropriate licenses. I am assuming Microsoft will change this in the future

I'm shopping for a windows server product.

To whoever has already bought a Windows Server Product,

    Do CALs need activation?

Does a CAL come with an associated product key?

If I buy a 25 CAL pack, should it come with 25 keys?

What certificate of authority do I get when I purchase a CAL?

    Thanks guys.

  9. While I used to like the Vista Transformation Pack, I dont recommend v4. Its ugly, the start globe is chopped up and its not Windows X, Best work. Sorry WinX.

VistaXP's good, but not that good. There's a few bugs that need to (won't be) worked out, such as the mini-windows present in PS are terribly skinned, and when you maximize a window, the glass effect goes away.
  10. All it does is bring some of the R2 release over to Pre R2 machines. I personally for right now dont see any advantage to this SP, Im hoping it becomes more significant as it goes along.

They need to make a way to integrate IE 7 into XP/2003. I'm getting tired of installing things manually across older platforms like Win2000 and NT.

I'll look into SP2 on a virtual machine. After that I'll just wait for the final release. This has been needed for a while now.

  11. Have you checked Microsofts TechNet site. I also run an IRC server and when I just upgraded to Server 2003 R2 I didnt have any problems.

Is there any way I can allow the outbound traffic out? It seems it is my OS that is not allowing the bot to connect, rather than the actual IRC server itself.
  12. I personally dont know of any registry keys that allow this type of behavior. WindowsX over on Neowin has released a pack that will turn WinServer 2003 into XP or give you fast user swicthing and trick certain apps into thinking you run Windows XP.

    Hi Guys,

I have been led to believe that there are two registry keys that can be modified in Windows Server 2003 that fool it into thinking it is Windows XP. Is this true? Does anybody know the keys and values?

The reason I need to know is we have some backup software which only runs on Windows XP or 2000 and we would like it to protect our Windows Server 2003 machines. By setting these keys I can install the client software for this application.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  13. I would test in a VM that way it doesnt hose your own system. It gets to be quite cumbersome to have to reinstall Windows 12 times a day. :)

The way I see it, NO BROWSER is safe.. unless the user knows what he/she is doing. Then again, I think most people here do..

    agreed. ^_^

  14. You should be able to integrate USP 5.1 and it replace IE 5 with IE6 using nLite. Another option as I had to do because I no longer have virgin media of Windows 2000 is use my nlited source which has IE 5 removed and just add SP5 on top of that.

    Hi Gurgelmeyer,

What a fluke! I only joined this Forum an hour ago, did a search for - Break IE5 in WIN2K and integrate IE6 SP1 - and I came across your name within seconds.

    Subject: WIN2K Pro. SP4

Mshta.exe Error Message Appears When You Start the Add/Remove Programs Tool in Control Panel.

    SYMPTOMS:

When you start the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel on a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, the following error message may be displayed:

Mshta.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows

    RESOLUTION:

To resolve the behavior, type the following commands in the Run dialog box:

    • sfc /purgecache

    • sfc /scannow

NOTE: Windows 2000 prompts you to insert the Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM to complete these commands.

If you run these commands and the behavior is not resolved, perform an in-place upgrade of Windows 2000 Professional.

    APPLIES TO:

    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition

These errors may not have occurred prior to "Windows 2000 SP4", but attempting to do an upgrade using "Windows Update" on "Windows 2000 SP4" simply does not integrate into the system correctly, (although it is supposed to).

As you probably know, IE6SP1 is integrated directly into the Operating System by "Windows Update" and you are given no choice of downloading and installing at a later date.

To get around that problem, I downloaded IE6SP1 using WINME, (I also have XPSP2Pro, running VMware WS 5.5; In download options, can select different Operating System versions, at least M$ gave us that choice.

After installation (of IE6SP1), the Operating System thinks it is IE6SP1, but the "Windows Update website" knows it is actually IE5.

I did after a long attempt, manage to access "Windows Update", but I realised that I would always be stuck with the problem with Internet Explorer.

    So I am thinking,

There must be some way of stripping Internet Explorer 5 out of Windows 2000, and it would have to be done before integrating "Service Pack 4 (SP4)" into "Windows 2000 /Windows 2000 Professional", using nLite:http://www.nliteos.com/

Possibly not so much stripping "Internet Explorer V5" out of "Windows 2000", as breaking the installation so it is not installed as V5, which is the default, but as V6.

When "Windows Update" completes installation of "Internet Explorer 6 SP1", "Windows Update" still recognises the version as Version 5 (Five).

Well Gurgelmeyer, I think that is my story well and truly told, (maybe not well), I will have to follow up on this usp51.zip file.

    Regards and best wishes,

    Jim
