Yeah, I've been trying to collect the OEMLOGO files sets for a while.

I've only really been collecting the OEM Logo and Info files [with the help of some of the guys here]

I've got around 20 full sets, and few more OEMLOGO.BMP's that I've added a basic OEMINFO.INI to, [either because I couldn't find the .ini or they were not in English] most of the sets have some Wallpapers, Icons or Themes too.

[Does HFSLIP Support Windows Home Server ?]

I was looking forward to see what happened in this thread, but it appears to have died.

So I thought I'd try HFSlip on WHS RC myself.

I used my WinXP Pro setup as the base as I knew it worked well.

Heres what I've found so far:

If I add the Ramdisk files, setup fails on text setup. It can't find the files and setup fails.

After removing those files I tried again, with just two slight problems.

1. List.inf failed with an error message, but install continued after clicking OK.

And 2. Foxit Reader failed to install.

Everything else seems to have worked fine.

I've added my .log file in case your interested in adding WHS to HFSlip.

Hi XPerties,

I installed Beta2 on an old PIII 500 w/ 512mb RAM.

To test out MS's quoted specs, it ran just fine for almost a month.

Since then I've been using a 1.8GHz AMD64 w/ 512mb RAM on a ASUS A8V mATX mobo and 500GB Seagate HDD. Both CPT and RC installed and ran almost floorlessly.

[had to download the Win2K3 drivers for the Realtek NIC as the ones on the disk installed but didn't work]

I was intending it use this box with the OEM release, but with the look of the OEM prices in the UK. I might grab a cheap retail box instead.

From what I've read so far, LH = load drivers or TSR's into the higher or expanded memory.

So maybe the numbers reprecent specific places or a specific order in the memory.

After reading through the Technet page on 'MS-Client v3.0 for DOS' I'm not sure I want to start anything either.

Even reading it a second time didn't help.

Still, the best way to learn about these things is to play with them.

I dug out those floppies this evening and it seems I have DOS 6.22.

So things are starting off the right way at least.

I'm glad you got it sorted.

I tried installing Win3.11 on VPC some time back, hence the tracking down the old Connectix DOS addtions. I had it running fine with a load of old floppy based apps I found in the basement.

But I never could get the network or Internet to work, and I don't know much about DOS/3.11.

Would the system files you posted work on any VPC network or are they specific to your setup.

I can feel another trip to the basement coming on.

[Two XP-SP2/MCE Questions]

If the .REG files were placed in HFGUIRUNONCE you may need to reboot first before they take effect. Did you try that before reapplying them?

I think I did, as I installed some other Apps/Utils/Drivers before I noticed the missing tweaks.

But I run through it again [adding the drivers I forgot last time ] and see what happens after a reboot.

Well... Installation of IE7 requires the OS to be activated already, otherwise the setup program will abort. I suppose your "regular" XP source is a corporate edition or one that doesn't require activation, which explains why IE7 installed properly on that. You could try to slipstream it instead by using IE7SVCPACK=1 in HFANSWER.INI.

Duh.....

I even went to the trouble of digging out the three OEM disks, to make sure the source and updates were clean. But then installed on a Virtual PC to test it...

They used to be a DOS addon to VPC, which was dropped when M$ took over and stopped surporting DOS, Win3.1 and Win95.

If you can find an old Connectix version and extract the DOS addons, it may fix your problems.

[Two XP-SP2/MCE Questions]

Hi Guys,

I thought I'd play with HFSlip and WinXP over the weekend.

[Yes, its true, I have no life ]

Anyway, I kept getting two little problems:

1. In WinXP some of of my .REG files don't seem to work.

They are imported into the Registry, and show up in the Registry.

But aren't applied untill I reset them manually ?

These are .REG files I've used many times with both STD installs and RyanVM's Pack installs.

I nomally start them from the CMDLINES.TXT which didn't work, so I then tried them from the HFGUIRUNONCE folder, but it made no difference. Any ideas why they maybe messing around ?

2. I tried HFSlip on MCE05, and I have to say I'm really impressed how easy it was to do.

Adding Rollup2 with the .NET fixes is normally a right pain to get working. But it was a breeze with HFSlip.

The problem I'm having is, I added the IE7 files to this as well. It's being packed up and added to the SVCPACK folder, but its not installing. Is there a difference process to installing IE7 in MCE05 ?

[Unattended/Slipstream from Dell CD?]

The best way to test your builds is with a Virtual PC, both VMWare and Microsoft have them for free download.

test your build in the VPC if it still dosen't work, I'd scrap it and start again.

Only this time test it in the VPC after each addtion.

By that I mean Slipstream SP2, make an image and test it.

If it works add your Hotfixes, make an image and test it.

If that works add your Apps and Reg's, make an image and test it.

Lastly add your drivers, then make a real disk and test it on your PC.

You should be able to use any OEM's disk as your slipstreaming a Service Pack first, but you'd be better off using a plain Hologramed OEM disk. As some OEM's add/remove drivers from their disks.

At a guess I'd say your trouble was the RAID drivers.

Try your slipstreamed CD on a basic PC first. Then, when you know its working try it on the exotic stuff.

I've seen a few reports that the CMDLINES.TXT in Win2K can also use one command.

If thats true, it could have been causing me trouble too.

Anyway, by using the CMDLINES.TXT to start a .CMD that contains all my Users and Regs files, seems to be the way to go. And I'll make sure ALL the files have Full Paths too.

I just tried an install straight from an orignal MSDN Win2K Pro disk, then tried to add my RunOnceEx files after install. But still only the .REG worked.

I'm going to have to look into the .CMD and .BAT files again, maybe theres a difference between Win2K and WinXP syntax ?

I've already found one in the Winnt.sif, so there maybe more.

Is Windows2000-Script57.exe the new scripten.exe renamed so it's supported by the current final release?

If it is, you may want to know that it can't be slipstreamed properly right now. MS screwed up the digital signature in the binaries inside that update causing Windows setup to refuse to copy them into DLLCACHE. However, HFGUIRUNONCE didn't fail on me during the tests I did with the new scripten.exe.

You are slipstreaming MDAC 2.8 SP1 (MDAC_TYP.EXE) but also a hotfix for MDAC 2.5 SP3 (MDAC253-KB927779-x86-ENU.exe). You need MDAC281-KB927779-x86-ENU.exe when slipstreaming MDAC 2.8 SP1.

I just finished building and installing a basic image, including yesterdays updates.

All I added was an $OEM$ folder with a CMDLINES.TXT and simple RunOnceEx.cmd

The install was floorless, but still nothing happened on first boot or was added to the registry ?

Is it possible that the RunOnceEx has been broken by one of the IE6 updates, like on IE7 awhile back.

I'm going to do a clean install from my orginal SP0 disk next just to make sure thats OK.

And I'll report back tomorrow.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I haven't used anything to slim it down as I'm still testing things out in VPC2007 so image size is not important.

I did add BTS's Drive pack, which appeared to work fine. But I figured that may have something to do with it, so I'm building a new image which has nothing added, to see what happens.

If I have the same problem I'll post the .LOG file.

But, I've already deleted the old image and SOURCES folder.

I'm new to HFSlip, so my problem could be me

I'm trying to run a few .EXE's, .REG's and .CMD's from RunOnceEx on install of Win2K.

I've tried adding a RunOnceEx.reg and a RunOnceEx.cmd to HFGUIRUNONCE but they neither worked.

Then I tried adding a RunOnceEx.reg, .BAT and/or .CMD to CMDLINE.TXT in a $OEM$ folder but that doesn't work either.

In fact the only way I can get it to work is to double click my RunOnceEx.reg file [.CMD or .BAT still won't work] once Win2K has laoded and then reboot.

I've made plenty of unattended disks before, using either the /Integrate switch or RyanVM's packs all of which installed these extras from RunOnceEx, athough they were all WinXP not Win2K.

Anyone have any ideas whats happening ?

p.s. A big Thank You to TommyP & Tomcat76 for a great slipstreaming app.

Not just is it easy to use, but the fact it works with both Win2K and WinXP could save me a lot of messing around, in my new job.

Hi Straytoasters,

Any CD should work reguardless of make, as long as the Setupp.ini used matches the CD Key.

If your COA says XP Home you should be able use any XP Home disk with your XP Home Setupp.ini and CD Key. But you'll have to phone MS to activate it once the install is complete.

I know Win2K doesn't have/use OEMBIOS files.

But I'd like to use it to add the OEM branding info to Win2K machines, like I'm doing with XP machines now.

Yep, tried it around a dozens here, with different PC's and OS's.

Mostly to test it out, only once for real.

As Bluescreen says, it works great.

Although, a couple of times it failed to reboot the PC after the backup.

Nothing hitting the 'Reset' button didn't fix.

OK, I get it.

The RAID was setup first, that WHS only see's it as one HDD.

That could be handy piece of info for later 'FrankenMods'

I had heard you could create duplicate folders and such, but if I was going to put all my data on one system, I wanted to insure that I had a second copy.

First I wouldn't leave any of my important data on a beta or test box. Been burned way to many times before.

But, so far the dupliction system on WHS seems pretty good.

My first install was on an old PIII 1GHz Gateway with two old 60GB HDDs [I had duplication switch on for everything except backups] When one drive started to fail and dissappered from BIOS. I used the builtin utils to remove it and added a 80GB HDD in its place. All the files were backed up and restored on the new 80GB, never lost one. B)

Just installed FREENAS on the NF7.

Only a TINY 38.6 meg iso Great WEB interface, MAY STICK WITH THIS!!!

FreeNAS is great for just storage.

Although, permissions can be tricky to setup on it, and are best done by telnet.

We've used for a couple of years at a computer club I help run for local kids.

It's running on a PI 133MHz with 64mb ram and a PCI IDE controller to allow larger HDD's.

The biggest problem we've had with it, is keeping the dust out

I installed WHS. Its pretty limited as to what it can do compared to Win Server 2003. I have been running Win Server 2003 on my home computer for a couple of years

I've been running Beta2 for almost a month now, apart from the 'Known Bugs' WHS only seeing the empty space on the first drive as free, and not being able to remove old PC's from the console. It seems very nice.

I've been using Win2k Server and 2K3 Server as a home server for years, so WHS is a little limited for my liking. But i'm not one of the people this is intended for. B)

I've just updated it the lastest release, which is much slicker. Both for install and setup.

Haven't added all the family or shares yet, they all get wipped out with reinstallion, but at least it leaves all your data alone.

What if you don't have a OEM hologram cd but a recovery cd made with recovery cd software that was installed on the pc when it was bought?

Most of the time the disk you end up with fails.

Lots of recovery disks use images of the hard drive, so they don't have the Windows install files.

But I think I'd go with a PCI UDMA or SATA card first, It would be alot cheaper.

I've got an old Compaq Ipaq [PIII 1ghz/512mb/250gb] that I use for work storage. The BIOS limit is something like 100gb, yet I've had a 250gb Maxtor in it for at least 3 years, without any problems at all. Thanks to WinXP and vLite.

I also have a Media Server similar to yours.

Dual PIII 1ghz/1024mb/1.01TB. [The .01TB is an old Xbox 10gb Seagate HDD used for the OS only]

The motherboard has both standard IDE and HPT370 channels, which are limited to 137gb.

The HTP370 works fine, and now has all the 1.0TB. But I've had multiple drives corrupted on the IDE channels. Using both Win2K and WinXP.

I'm thinking of using an old PIII 733mhz/128mb Gateway desktop as the NAS.

I don't know enough about Linux to use it, so I was going to use Win2K. But i'm alittle worried about the standard IDE channels.
