  1. Server 2008 is already at SP1 codebase. The best depends on what you want to do with it. Webserver will probably be the smallest, although if you delete stuff with WAIK they might all be about the same.
  2. I just finished a dozen Virtualbox installs looking for a combo that would work. The components I had to leave in to add the Desktop Experience were the following: Help Routing & Remote Access Distributed File System Windows Mail Windows Media Codecs DRM MSMQ This is with my particular setup. If you try to delete anything else, you'll discover more. (There might be an issue with Sysinfo or MS Agent as well but I didn't feel like making another installation to find out) ISO=705MB Installation size=2.7GB ; vLite preset file ; ;#Environment: ; vLite v1.2 RC ; Framework 2.0.50727.1434 ; Microsoft Windows NT 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 32-bit ; ;#Target: ; Windows Longhorn SERVERENTERPRISE 32-bit Service Pack 1 ; Version 6.0.6001.18000 English (United States) ; [Compatibility] KMPlayer [CustomHide] [Components] ;# Accessories # Accessibility Paint Speech Support System Information ;# Drivers # Display adapters-Ati Display adapters-Intel Display adapters-NVIDIA Display adapters-S3 Display adapters-SiS Diva Server Ethernet network adapters Modems Printers-Apollo Printers-Canon Printers-Citizen Printers-Dell Printers-Diconix Printers-Epson Printers-Fuji Xerox Printers-Fujitsu Printers-Generic printer Printers-Gestetner Printers-HP Printers-IBM Printers-Infotec Printers-Konica Printers-Konica Minolta Printers-Kyocera Mita Printers-Lanier Printers-Lexmark Printers-Minolta Printers-Minolta-QMS Printers-NEC Printers-NRG Printers-Oce Printers-Oki Printers-Okidata Printers-Olivetti Printers-Panasonic Printers-QMS Printers-Ricoh Printers-Samsung Printers-Savin Printers-Seikosha Printers-Sharp Printers-Sony Printers-Star Printers-Tally Printers-Tektronix Printers-Wipro ePeripherals Printers-Xerox QLogic Fibre Channel Adapter Sound controllers Storage controllers-Adaptec Storage controllers-Elxstor Storage controllers-Hewlett-Packard Storage controllers-IBM ServeRAID Storage controllers-ICP vortex Storage controllers-Intel (Matrix) Storage controllers-ITE Storage controllers-LSI Logic Storage controllers-MegaRAID Storage controllers-nVidia Storage controllers-Promise Storage controllers-SiS TV Tuners-ADS Technologies TV Tuners-ASUSTeK Computer Inc. 3. I rarely use the x64 installation but I haven't noticed any problems previously. I just installed DotNET today so maybe it didn't install properly. Server (RC1) settings are basically default. The only installed role is File Services (Windows Search and File Server).
  4. I just tried it on my x64 installation and it works, so it's probably a problem with running on 2008 Server or something peculiar to my install. The file selection dialog (for choosing a directory) doesn't show up though, so I had to manually enter the path.
  5. I'm only using Windows Advanced Firewall which doesn't have process protection and Antivir. I turned off most everything I could (services and drivers) but still got the same result. This is not the first time I've had freezing at this stage of the process. Most, if not all, previous vlite versions have frozen when loading the OS for the first time (which is why I was looking for a way to terminate it in the other thread). After rebooting, however, it would load and work fine. This time, it won't work at all and continues to freeze.
  6. When loading the files for the slipstreamed Vista SP1 release (just after selecting the OS type) , it freezes and won't quit unless I reboot. I opened Process monitor to see what was going on and I noticed a humungous number of buffer overflow errors (PM was freezing, using 1.5Gb memory) like the following: Sequence: 112999 Date & Time: 2/10/2008 6:28:47 PM Event Class: File System Operation: QueryNameInformationFile Result: BUFFER OVERFLOW Path: C:\Temp\\Temp\vsTemp19\Windows\System32\config\SOFTWARE{00000001-8c96-0009-0000-000000000000}.TMContainer00000000000000000001.regtrans-ms TID: 4012 Duration: 0.0000047 -------------------------------- The problem seems to be with that file. I tried it in my other 2008 Server installation with v1.1 and 1.1.1 and got the same result.
  7. Sometimes when starting vlite and selecting the installation files, it will freeze and it's impossible to terminate it. I've tried Process Explorer, DTaskmanager Xtended task Manager and APT to no avail. The only solution is to reboot. Is there any way to kill this app w/o rebooting?
  8. With Nero Wave Editor in the latest Lite version, I find it doesn't detect VST plugins and when I press the 'Scan DirectX Plugins" button, it freezes the program (DXEnum is doing a lot of registry scanning in the background but it never comes around).
  9. I've successfully created a Recode 2 add-on for 8.1.1.4 and 8.2.2.0, but there's an issue with Recode 3 Before Nero Lite was released for v8, I made my own stripped down version with Recode and successfully transferred it to the latest Lite release. Problem now is the patent activation which won't work (it can't find the neropatentactivation.exe which is in its normal place. Have you dealt with this issue?
  10. it's here.. http://rapidshare.com/files/65564849/Slips...indows.rar.html Moron. The site referenced in the download doesn't mention R2. You get no rapidshare points for files under 1MB anyway. I just added everything in the R2 disc to the disc 1 folder before I nlited. The R2 installer ran after bootup. If you're using 2003 as a workstation, there's no point in applying the R2 update anyway, as it only affects server features.
  11. You have to add it in ServerManager -> Roles Roles ? u mean features No, Roles. Check File Services, then check Windows Search or Indexing Service (Indexing service is for backwards compatibility).
  12. There is a standalone "installer" used to upgrade 2003 Server installations with System Restore. That might work for xp as well (the inf may need to be tweaked). Check here: http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/sysrestore.htm
  13. You have to add it in ServerManager -> Roles
  14. There was some discussion of this on Neowin earlier this year. I did a little poking around and found a lot of large files I could delete like the sample videos, pictures and whatever junk I didn't use. Make sure you know what you're deleting.
  15. System tray icon size is dictated by title bar size ( Personalization->Window Color...->Advanced... ) Larger than default sizes will stretch the icons and doesn't look good.
  16. New test version of innounp .20 released http://innounp.sourceforge.net/test020.rar
  17. I've been using it for a while. It's alrite but it can be kind of flakey ( Explorer crashes a lot for me and I've done numerous installs on different hardware.) The vast majority of software runs as it does on XP and you can run the rest by changing the compatibility mode or the platform identifier. It's no less bloated than XP, that's for sure. X64 is based on the same codebase so you might want to try that instead.
  18. There's one made by NFM although it hasn't been updated since Oct 06 (now redundant since the release of sp2). http://www.zeroangel.ch/XP64_ua_cd_pack/
  19. I used the update.exe and updspapi.dll from the 32bit 2003 Server SP2 update and it worked fine.
  20. Booogys update pack is a pack of hotfixes and updates for 2003 server. There are similar packs for XP. winmgmt.exe /Regserver installs the WMI service. If you don't have it you're SOL. It should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem. The next time you install, do not remove or disable any services from nLite. It's better to wait until you log in and turn them off manually. Looking at your session.ini, I see you disabled a lot of them, including WMI. Maybe if you enabled it, it might solve your problem. I had to use an older version 1.01 to fix my problem with iTunes not detecting my iPod.
  21. It uses a newer kernel that benches slightly higher as well as being more stable. As for services, you can turn those off like you can in XP.
  22. Did you run winmgmt.exe /Regserver ? It didn't recover my dependency tabs but the service did run. I eventually used v1.01 to install Booogy's update pack w/o removing/tweaking anything and it worked fine.
  23. I think I'll be skipping nlite the next time I install 2003 Server. Missing services, Start menu corruption, WMP hosed,etc... Last_Session.ini
  24. Check your event log. Best to leave the services alone and manually configure them later. Look for a program called pserv. When you have your services set up the way you want them, make an xml template that you can load for each new install.
