  1. Yeah, they are giving it away free to developers...and yet they did not incorporate it into the whole Office Suite...go figure. I read a post by one of the ribbon UI developers and they said something to the effect of "even though some people are adverse to the ribbon, we are not going to provide a "classic" interface...we just feel we need to drag them along". They actually said they want to "drag" users along, as in kicking and screaming. This is not a Mac slam, but one of the reasons I (for the most part) avoid Macs is the lack of customizability. Now it seems MS is going the same way...taking choice away from users. Thats just sad. Straytoasters
  2. Is there a Nintendo specific one or did they build in a generic nic driver and (most) any usb to nic device will work for connecting the Wii non wireless. Straytoasters
  3. I just dont like that the title bar doesent highlight (or at least so little highlight) and I hate the min/max/exit Vista buttons. I feel Office 2007 should follow the same theme as ever other program...is there a regedit or something I can do? Straytoasters
  4. ...which was more or less my thought too (did not know about the script though) but the .hiv's wont load into the registry ("error while loading hive"). But the can still be loaded into regshot and compared and the output outputted as txt. More thoughts...am I missing something? Thank you. Straytoasters
  5. I have a bunch of regshot(-ed) .hiv's that I want to look at, not just the compared results, but the actual .hiv files one by one. Any text editor suggestions? Straytoasters
  6. I have tried the first one before (no luck) and as for the second one...yeah that may be...but if apply from display properties can do it...there has to be some .exe or "dll ran as an app" that can pull of this same function you would think (or at lease I would). Straytoasters
  7. I have more or less asked this before but maybe someone has something new. Basically it is this...the machines I use are all Ghosted regularly, I disagree with the theme used on them (because we also do software reinstalls...and the theme we are required to use on reinstalls IS NOT the theme our work machines are Ghosted with). Anyhow most theme elements can be edited in the registry, then do a net stop theme, then net start themes and all is good. THE EXCEPTIONS to this are the wallpaper and the title text on a window. I know where both of these elements are set in the registry, but but they are appearently not "directly" part of the theme settings. So what does the apply action in display property do beyone net stop/start to push the wall paper and title text on through to "active". If you change these elements and reboot they are of course pushed on through and become active. Right now I am using a autohotkey script to open the display propertys and make the changes I want, but I would really like to have it work as a direct part of my batch file. Ideas? Straytoasters
  8. You're awsome, and I am just stupid. I shoud have tried that. Works most excellently. Thank you, thank you. Straytoasters.
  9. ...Well I am just wanting to get the switches for various programs. Some programs used different switches and some of the same switches produce different results for different programs. Anyhow...I found "jocr" which will basically do an ocr on any picture you select and outputs that to a text file. Its not perfect, it mistakes some characters, but over all it works...it you know a better way (better program, reg edit to allow copying in dialog boxes) let me know. Thanks. I was just (as an example, but a real one) trying gdidettool.exe /?>gdilog.txt Straytoasters
  10. Basically thats it. When you run program name /? you get a dialog box of the available swithes, I just want to copy the dialog box or export its text to a text file. program_name /?>swithes.txt doesent work (it just generates a blank .txt)...hey...it was my first thought. Suggestions??? Straytoasters
  11. Ok, we might have a really big opppssey here. Your origial post was "Every time I installed MS Office OutLook, I added my emails details". That made me believe that you were opening Outlook on every new install and having to put in "my name is X, my server is Y and my password is Z", and as such all your mail was stored offsite (like mine (IMAP and Exchange) on another machine/server). If your mail was stored locally and you only exported the .reg, and you blew your HD away and did a reinstall, then your email is GONE. The .reg only add the settings or pointers to your email store, it does not contain the emails themselves...if those are stored locally they are usually .pst or .ost. The process I mentioned is still valid, but you would have to copy the pst/ost and put it back in the same place after the re-install, then run the .reg. If your mail is gone I feel really bad but if you exported the key and even if it was 2-3 megs, you surely realized that wasent your whole mail store...no??? Straytoasters
  12. This is what work for me (I'm on a domain, not that that should matter, but just FYI). Locate the Outlook profile in regedit. This can be found in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\profilename Export that .reg (call it something like email.reg). Save that to a floppy, pen drive, network driver (whatever) and next time just double click that .reg. You will get prompted "do you really want to do this?". Just click yes/ok, then open Outlook. You can add this to a batch file and add a silent switch if you want to not get prompted. This is a pretty big key to export, I have trimmed mine down but it is still 62kb, I am sure I could trim it down some more, but I'm content the way it is. I have two imaps and an exchange account (with 6 sub-accounts) and it has worked perfectly for over a year. Straytoasters
  13. I want to manually slipstream post SP2 hotfixes into the source files. I know about Nlite, WinFuture, RyanVMs, and such, but I really do want to do this manually. So far I can't get the hotfixes to extract/install to the correct directory. I put all my windows CD contents in a folder called "XP_working" and the hotfixes in a folder called "hotfixes". The two directorys are on diffferent hieracy levels (I dont figure it matters but ???). In the hotfixes directory I have a .bat that essentially is just a bunch of lines like KBhotfix#.exe /intergrate:C:\XP_working\ /passive (which is the location of the I386 directory), I could variable it to make the batch smaller, but havent gotten around to it. So far the hotfixes just install to c:\random_numbers_and_letters folder that seems to appear then go away. Where am I going wrong...what am I doing wrong. Straytoasters
  14. I couldnt find a Winfuture or "catch all" forum in user projects so I am posting here. 1) Does anybody know if in the Installation Data--admin/partition part if you leave it as "leave partition as it is" will that prompt you for what you want to do with the partition or will it just blindly install on the only/largest/C:\ partition (a dirty install)? 2) How do you get a partial random name generated? It allows you to do full random but not a partial (it wont accept the % as in %random%)? 3) What is the application switch to get the installer sequence to NOT start installing the next application till the last one is finished (Itunes is really picky about that). This one is not WinFuture specific (duh). Suggestions? Straytoasters
  15. Most other hotfixes call themselves an update package or hotfix package or security update, but this one calls itself a W32 self extracting cabinet. Ok, fine, so I use 7zip and it unzips and gives me five files, I try to add those to WinFuture (did not go back to Nlite) and it complaines about the two .exe's, but appearently was willing to take the .inf, .cat and .install_fp6_wu.exe, but balked on the geninst.exe and genuinst.exe. Any thoughts as to what is going on here? 913433 is Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-020 Vulnerabilities in Macromedia Flash Player from Adobe Could Allow Remote Code Execution http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/MS06-020.mspx Straytoasters
  16. Not exactly it, but this works...playinvlc.reg Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell\Videolan.Play] @="&Play in VLC" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell\Videolan.Play\command] @="\"C:\\Program Files\\VideoLan\\VLC\\vlc.exe\" \"%1\""
  17. Ok with VLC if you put the folder path of a folder with the VOB's in the "open disk" path it will play like a standard DVD player (or if you just drop that folder onto VLC) but I want to add a "open with"-->vlc to a folder. Double click needs to still work as normal, but I want an open with option. Doing a cmd vlc.exe path to folder (not file specifically) works too. So an open with should be possible. Anybody? Straytoasters PS...I used to just open each VOB individually. That worked but kinda sucked.
  18. Well I went over to xxcopy which has a /sh switch. This looks in all /subdirectorys for the root you specify but drops all files in the /home (guessing on that one) of the destination you specify. It works quickly and perfectly. However this point is not moot (but thank you for your continued follow up) as "managment" has now said they are not interested is a quick solution "we will use the windows search and copy from there". Wonderful. Straytoasters
  19. Ok, I like robocopy and its working 99% great, but is there a switch to get to look in all sub-directorys but if it finds a file to copy to ONLY copy the file to the destination directory and not its whole path? If so I am missing it. Using /s looks in all sub-directorys but ALSO copies the sub-directory path to the destination. Thank you. Straytoasters
  20. I think I am going to go with robocopy but with either robocopy or xcopy what would I put in for a variable path...as in robocopy c:\ %user input destination path% *.jpg /blah-blah-blah options What do I put in for %user input destination path% to get the script to prompt the user for the destination path? Also although the ss64.com sites says the default for files to be copied (if not specified) is *.* would that only be *.* files in the C:\ drive (in the example above) or would it look in the C:\subfolders too or do I have to put in a source path like C:\*.* for it to check subfolders? PS...is this "vanilla" example from ss64 ROBOCOPY %_source% %_dest% %_what% %_options% an example of the true variables (in which the script would prompt you for everything) or is this just ss64 being simplistic? Thank you, Straytoasters
  21. I am pretty sure I tried that Cobian but it was not listed in my list of nearly 30 programs I have been trying. I downloaded it and tried it (again). I cant find a way to have it dump all the files into a single directory (without their original hierachy). I have played with several settings, but if anyone knows the magic sequence speak up. Also this thing seem increadibally SLOW. Copy Muppy does the complete filtered backup in about 4 minutes. Cobian has been chugging along for nearly 25min and looks to be only about 30% done.
  22. I am looking for a copy/back up program that can do the following: 1) Back up a whole folder/drive 2) Filter the back up by wildcard (*.jpg) 3) Exclude by specific name (maybe I want all *.jpg except fampic.jpg) 4) Exclude by directory (maybe I want all *.jpg in c:\ but no *.jpg from c:\windows) 5) Drop all copied/backup files into one directory The closest thing I have found is Copy Muppy (funny name, good program). You can exclude by specific file with Copy Muppy but no way to exclude by folder (I tried a -c:\windows, but no go). I contacted the author but they have no plans to inpliment a directory exclude anytime soon (but at least I got a response). A program with a .ini file setup like below would be excellent: [source] source path [Target] Target path [recursive] ;yes/no no [Filter] ;blank would copy all files from target *.jpg [Exclude filter by file] ;blank would exclude nothing fampic.jpg [Exclude filter by directory] ;blank would search all directorys C:\windows Any suggestions? 23. Expermented and got my answer... To set to 2x TB Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2] "Settings"=hex:28,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,02,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,6b,00,00,00,40,\ 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,c0,03,00,00,00,05,00,00,00,04,00,00 To set to 1x TB (normal size) Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2] "Settings"=hex:28,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,02,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,6b,00,00,00,22,\ 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,de,03,00,00,00,05,00,00,00,04,00,00 You then have to restart the shell, here is a .vbs I used to kill and restart explorer.exe Set WshShell = Nothing On Error GoTo 0 For Each Process in GetObject("winmgmts:"). _ ExecQuery ("select * from Win32_Process where name='explorer.exe'") Process.terminate(0) Next Note the stuckrects2 values are only set in the registry upon shutdown...thus if you want a 3x TB (or on the top or side I guess) you have to set the TB the way you want it, reboot, then grab the stuckrects2 value. 24. I am wanting to reset the taskbar size via .reg entry. I am not looking for how to lock/unlock the taskbar (I know that key), most searches on this returns how to lock/unlock. I am needing the entry that sets the taskbar at 1TB high, 2TB high, 3TB high etc. And no its not that I am too lazy to just grab and expand the taskbar I want to add this to a .reg that changes 30-40 different things when I login. Thank you. Straytoasters
  25. The problem really isnt the theme service. I can kill and restart the theme service from .bat in like 3 seconds. The problem is the non theme elements. Ok, here is what I mean. The machine is ghosted with the silver theme (I dont have access to the ghost), I change the stated theme with a .reg, then kill and restart the theme service (total time proubably 4sec), HOWEVER non theme elements like the title bar text and wallpaper do not change to what is normally associated with the default XP theme. The silver theme has black title bar text and that looks like crap when the title bar changes back to blue. So again the problem really isnt the theme service per se. Straytoasters
