    MSXML4.0 SP2

Oh, my bad, didn't see that. But it doesn't matter, XP SP2 is supported too - installation on an already running system works, and integration into the source with hfslip also (it's just one .dll after all). Tomalak
  2. Hello, short information for the interested as I received the question on how to acquire this link yourself (although the download location for the new standalone version is posted all over the forums now): you can always find out the most recent download location looking into wuredist.xml (packed in wuredist.cab). Download and documentation by Microsoft here: Updating the WUA Stumbled upon this a long time ago when I was on search myself. HTH, Tomalak
  3. Yes, already assumed that. But just copying the files of the installer (one .sys, two .exe, one .cpl) to their appropriate locations with the HFEXPERT feature is not enough (first test install yesterday)... The service does not get registered and does not run so I had to use the installer afterwards. Any idea on how to achieve this? And using my simple (naive?) approach the entries in the context menues (file handlers) are also missing of course. Yeah, great - it gets better and better, another tool (vfd) replaced. Thanks again for the hint on ImDisk! Tomalak

    MSXML4.0 SP2

Hello all, just a quick note: a few days ago MS has released KB941833, a new version of its XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2. It replaces its predecessor, KB936181 (v. 4.20.9848.0). I guess TC76 will update his site after the next patch day? There were some changes in the last few days (new MSXML4.0 SP2, new standalone update agent, new root certificate update) that are not immediately apparent to a visitor of his webpage, only after reading some of the recent posts here... Kind regards, Tomalak
  5. Yes, I considered this and will do it as soon as I find some time (Christmas seems feasible ). But it's still plain copying, not understanding - and I'd like to understand at least a little bit of what is going on here. Didn't find a really good and comprehensive inf tutorial yet, explaining also the TXTSETUP.SIF (which is used for the HIVEINSTALL contents according to hfslip.org). Wow, great, thanks for the link! That driver seems to be even better - only a few files, ramdisk functionality (already tested it), and its 2-in-1 functionality allowing to mount image files would additionally replace the virtual cdrom driver and GUI from Microsoft I'm using right now. The only problem here is the scarce documentation for ImDisk - there is no list of the registry paths and entries used by it (finding out with a snapshot tool before and after installation is possible but tedious). And I'd like to have the ramdisk drive started automatically on system boot without relying on batch files etc. (which I'd consider to be an "ugly" solution). So the next step for me would be to adapt the inf file from the first post to ImDisk, and then to test it (requiring several installation attempts I guess...) Nothing for today Tomalak
  6. Well, since 09/28 there is an updated standalone installer: Windows Update Agent HTH, Tomalak
  7. Hello, out of pure interest: where to get the knowledge from to create such a ramdisk.inf as presented by OlegII in the first post - how can I learn that and find appropriate documentation? I never had problems with AR Ramdisk and the method presented here, but now I'd like to try another ramdisk, mentioned on this website (it's based on the original MS ramdisk driver): Gavotte RRamdisk Of course installing it the regular way after Windows setup is completed is totally out of scope I guess I could also simply put the .sys file in HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS (and add the .exe tools to HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32), but how to build an appropriate .inf file for HFEXPERT\HIVEINSTALL? Copying the unaltered file to HFEXPERT\CODECS won't be enough I think... OlegII is a rare visitor nowadays, but perhaps one of the other experts here has an idea and can give some hints and tipps on how to get started on this topic. Thanks a lot! Regards, Tomalak
  8. Hello all, MS has published a new version of its root certificate update, date stamp is 2007/09/25: rootsupd.exe Kind regards, Tomalak
  9. Hello, a new version of Windows script has been released by Microsoft (English version only, other languages currently not available): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...d6-524e7e844d81 I guess it's not yet supported by hfslip? Its strange naming scheme ("scripten.exe") was once recognized, but the most current version 5.6.0.8831 was provided in an update with a different name, so hfslip probably has to be adapted for the new version... Regards, Tomalak
  10. Sounds good - but where to get that file from? Thanks! Tomalak
  11. Hello all, it seems the story will go on (all these updates for the SNM tool in a short period of time). Microsoft has released MS07-040 today which applies to .NET - so there are two more patches to include, one for .NET 1.1, and one for .NET 2.0. Sorry Tomcat76 for all the trouble... Thanks, Tomalak
  12. Okay, no problem. It's not that important But now I have another problem: put the two modified files (and a modified UXTHEME.DL_) as produced by nLite into the FIX folder. Installation went just fine afterwards (I did remove the .cat files when being asked by hfslip). Next step was to include a small cleanup file named "NotepadHelp.rem" in HFCLEANUP, containing just two lines: NOTEPAD.CH and NOTEPAD.HL. And now I suddenly got into serious trouble: after the first successful GUI installation phase, rebooting into the second and final stage (with OOBE) failed. Before even showing the graphical screen with the progress bar, I got a blue screen and the computer rebooted. And it's stuck in that reboot loop... I couldn't see the error message, sorry - it's not shown long enough and disappearing too fast (I'm doing an installation in a VM). Any idea what happended here? I can post both log files if necessary, but the only difference between them is the single line with my custom removal file. Of, just in case it matters: last version I tried with is 70627a. I can investigate further next week. Thanks for your all your help and support! Tomalak
  13. Okay, I just saw the change on their website - someone at MS probably does not know what he does. The update is indeed not necessary in contrary to their KB article. Well, now it is - it was part of the update mania on 2007/06/26. Regards, Tomalak
  14. You're referring to Windows 2000, I guess? As I too considered this list as unmaintained and outdated, I dropped it some months ago and performed all my hfslip+nLite installations without it. I had never any problems with that - neither with DirectX nor with WMP. But I'm using Windows XP Pro, it might be more inured to such changes... Regards, Tomalak
  15. Subtle bump. Tomcat76, any chance? Thanks a lot! Tomalak
  16. Really strange, I didn't have any problems - it's of course not the same as installing on a running system (some features are not available for i386 patching), but this is the case with the "normal" XPize also. Everything that should be dark (black instead of blue icons etc.) is indeed dark in my installation... Sorry I couldn't help, Tomalak
  17. Not that hard to try out - already supported! As it supports i386 patching, just rename the file appropriately and let hfslip do the rest... Tomalak
  18. Put it in HF, not HFCABS (it's an executable after all). Worked for me without any problems. Tomalak
  19. Hello Tomcat76, could you also please revise the sentence before (both files, SYSSETUP.DL_ and SFC_OS.DL_, can be obtained in their modified form by using nLite)? That would clarify the paragraph. Thanks!
  20. Hello, on 2007/06/26 (the big "let's give them something to download" day) MS also released an update for Dot.NET 3.0. It fixes a problem for RMS functionality in combination with the XPS viewer: KB932471 The update can be obtained here: http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdo...01a583dbb81.exe TC76, would you be so kind to prepare a new version of your Silent.NET updater? Thanks! Regards, Tomalak
  21. Hello all, MS released v12 of the root certificate update on 2007/06/26. Here's the direct download link: http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdo...91104eef90c.exe Regards, Tomalak

    KB934238

Wow, thanks a lot, that was really fast! Just created new installers, testing them really soon. But there's a little glitch during the execution of the script: Processing .NET 1.1 installer... Processing NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-x86.exe... Processing NDP1.1sp1-KB886903-x86.exe... Der Befehl "_" ist entweder falsch geschrieben oder konnte nicht gefunden werden. Processing langpack.exe... [...](it means that the command "_" was either not written correctly or could not been found). The rest however seemed to work smoothly, and all three installers were created. Thanks again, Tomalak

    KB934238

Gentle bump... Do you have a rough estimate on when this update for the SNM script will be available for test? In the meantime: how to ensure that updates from HFSVCPACK_SW1 are run in a certain order? Does Windows setup execute them in alphabetical order? Thanks a lot! Tomalak
  24. Hello all, I want to try out the HFCLEANUP feature. http://hfslip.org/advanced.html#a5 reads: These sentences do confuse me a little bit: can I get the second file (SFC_OS.DL_) from the nLite run also? But why is not mentioned then? Or is SFC_OS.DL_ not needed, in contrary to the first statement? Additionally, "place all files" instead of "place these two files" implies that there are even more patched DLLs required. Thanks for a short clarification here! Tomalak

    KB934238

Okay, I'll try that for my next install. Any idea on how to force XP to install the updates in a certain order (English 'base' package first, then a language pack)? Thanks!Tomalak
