  1. I second that program, its more flexible than the built in one anyways. If you use FDVs 2k fileset you must use something else anyways.
  2. The monthly addons are just addons, every game that uses them also uses the DX9c base. A lot of games will install the addons no matter what. (no prompt at all, but they do check for DX9c first and prompt that if none detected) So its almost pointless to do them, but personally I like having 'complete' slipstreams. And eventually installers will stop messing with files without at least asking or checking first. I believe most of them are various shader program libraries.
  3. According to unattend.doc from W2k server cd, this is how you format it (copy n paste of sample on p113) [Networking] [Identification] JoinWorkgroup = ntdev ; We'll have two NICs - Adapter01 and Adapter02. ; Note: the adapter we specify here as #1 is not ; always LAN connection #1 in the UI. [NetAdapters] Adapter01 = params.Adapter01 Adapter02 = params.Adapter02 ; specify what card NIC #1 is [params.Adapter01] INFID = "pci\ven_0e11&dev_ae32" ; specify NIC #2 [params.Adapter02] INFID = "pci\ven_8086&dev_1229&subsys_00018086" ; install client for MS networks [NetClients] MS_MSClient = params.MS_MSClient [params.MS_MSClient] ; only install TCP [NetProtocols] MS_TCPIP = params.MS_TCPIP [params.MS_TCPIP] ; TCP/IP properties AdapterSections = params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter01,params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter02 ; card 1 using DHCP server info [params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter01] DHCP = yes SpecificTo = Adapter01 ; card 2 using static info [params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter02] DefaultGateway = 2.2.2.2 DHCP = no IPAddress = 1.1.1.1 SpecificTo = Adapter02 SubnetMask = 255.255.248.0 WINS = no But this isn't working for me, so I'm all for trying it other ways. (if you have only 1 NIC and its detected by pnp the doc says you don't have to do the PCI vendor stuff, mine are) I also got cd key and a few other things to work but regional still isn't I'm spending an awful lot of time trying to save 2 minutes of installing heh
  4. Thanks for the cdkey info, at least I can get that part working. Its gotten to the point where I almost have 3 or 4 of them memorized. The tcpip params stuff was all generated from setupmgr.exe off a windows 2000 server cd, so if it doesn't match the info in the doc from the same deploy.cab...thats both pretty darn funny and sad.
  5. Not exactly HFSLIP but I borrowed alot from FDV's file so I'm guessing he got it to work Some of my settings in winnt.sif are being ignored during setup. For example, in this one, things like the CD key and TCP/IP settings are totally ignored but the other parts appear to work, such as most of unnattended and about half of the rest. Note: I have tried this with quotes around every string and no quotes, I've seen it done both ways all over the net, and usually mixed...people are just copy and pasting each other without explanation of why some use quotes and some don't. (and nobody is consistient with anyone else) I used setupmgr to make a lot of the settings and guess what, it does the same **** thing! Anyways here it is: [Data] AutoPartition="0" MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [Unattended] UnattendMode="ProvideDefault" ExtendOemPartition="0" FileSystem="LeaveAlone" OemPreinstall="No" OemSkipEula="Yes" DriverSigningPolicy="Ignore" Repartition="No" TargetPath="\WINNT" UnattendSwitch="Yes" WaitForReboot="No" [GuiUnattended] EncryptedAdminPassword="No" OEMSkipRegional="1" OemSkipWelcome="1" TimeZone="35" [UserData] ProductKey="XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX" FullName="joebob" OrgName="orgname" [Display] BitsPerPel="4" Xresolution="800" YResolution="600" Vrefresh="60" [setupparams] skipmissingfiles="yes" [Components] IEAccess="off" OEAccess="off" WMAccess="off" [TapiLocation] CountryCode="1" Dialing="Tone" [Identification] JoinWorkgroup="NULL" [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents="No" [NetAdapters] Adapter1="params.Adapter1" [params.Adapter1] INFID="*" [NetProtocols] MS_TCPIP="params.MS_TCPIP" [params.MS_TCPIP] DNS="Yes" UseDomainNameDevolution="No" EnableLMHosts="No" AdapterSections="params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter1" [params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter1] SpecificTo="Adapter1" DHCP="Yes" WINS="No" NetBIOSOptions="2"
  6. I'm using 2k3's on 2k, it seems pretty much the same as using XP's. It could be very slightly faster, I don't know, but I am sure its not slower since I'm impatient as hell. I thought Vista is changing how it boots in the final builds, so no importing from it...?
  7. Is this one that can work without IE?
  8. (From Here) Office 2000 (powerpoint) XP/2003/x64 (Web Client...why on earth do you have this service on?) XP/2003/x64 TCP/IP (IGMP...) WMP on 2000/XP/2003/x64 WMP through other browsers, e.g. firefox on 2000/XP/2003/x64 2000 IE 5.01 (or with FDV slipstream for fun) I was bored, so I made this post.
  9. If I can be annoying, I'd like to ask that those other 2 files get slipstreamed too I can't cite a tangible need for them yet though
  10. Are there any other drop and replace files like these in 2003 or XP that might be useful in 2k? I was (really) bored the other day and abused my bandwidth to download a trial ISO of 2003 just to get these two files, if theres anything else I can pull off of there I'll feel better about wasting my 25 cent CD-R.
  11. I see you didn't read the whole thread We finally determined it was the product id (setupp.ini) FDV includes not matching mine. I've used all those files except scripten, and the other DX files are needed by many newer games. Dotnet 2.0 installs and is working fine without IE, I use several utilities that require it, and one stupid driver control panel (ATI) that I just uninstalled for a homebrew tweak.
  12. I was thinking more basic, basically just pulling the exact list from error report.txt when they "click here for support information" (most of MS's stuff opens a little html window, if I could clone that look it would be nice) Even if I had to craft that info page myself for each hfslip iso, as long as it gets preinstalled its fine with me. (FIX folder, or reg.reg or ?) Actually that might be more fun, I could personalize it a bit. I just don't know how I dont think itemizing every hotfix with its own selection would be needed, esp since theres no remove option for idiots to mess up. (#$%@#$%#$ programs that expect admin privs) Plus less clutter = good. I dont think the 'a little knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge' had a clue in 2003
  13. Is there a way I could edit the entry in 'Add/Remove Programs' to have a little more info? (besides "HFSLIP Total Slipstream") At least for the versions that leave IE in, its completely invisible with FDV's Basically I just want it to list all the files in Error Report.txt, for my own reference mostly but also for other users to know. A 'click for details' of sorts. A few people tend to assume that after a W2k install they have to download a few dozen patches, and yesterday someone tried to convince me the install was bad since they "couldn't update it" Better yet, is there a way I could have this all done during install? B) I know I could just park the TXT on the desktop and rename it 'list of integrated hotfixes' but I'm looking for something more elegant and integrated. More tangible than just windows update not wanting to install anything...
  14. Don't the proxim/orinoco type cards have real drivers, not giant bloated ndis wrappers? I think maybe you could get a guess as to how bloated each one is by checking out the driver download packages.
  15. Working great now, I built a completely up to date iso with everything including dotnet. 5 minutes worth of services.msc and regedit later is one lean, mean, almost invisible machine on the network Now I'm going to waste a bunch of time making custom reg files to turn even more stuff off automatically during install
  16. I tried out VMware and removing the SETUPP.INI from FDV files works. Your # is slightly different than mine, whatever that might mean? Next to make a slipstream with patches and such, but at least now I know the base works great: 12 processes and <35000k commit looks pretty slick
  17. The machine I am typing on, right now, was made from a CD, which was burned from the Sourcess folder. It also worked fine burning nothing but the source folder (w2k + SP4, nothing else, my old i386 really did come from a retail hologram cd ages ago - I dont buy prebuilts) as in worked fine from a CD from start to finish. (I'm lazy and screw learning yet another partition tool, I use the windows format tool from the long version of the setup - I really do install 100% from a CD) I will try a VM machine but to me thats just another layer of obfuscation + potential bugs to figure things out, the cds w/o fdv files all worked 100% through the setup (about 10 by now) Heres the error report for my current setup (in other words, my source works fine for a slipstream of all this stuff, just not FDV files): =========================DO NOT ALTER THE SECTION BELOW======================== HFSLIP Version - HFSLIP_60107.CMD Your path - D:\HFSLIP\ OS you are slipstreaming - 2000 Language you are working with - English IE6 Version - 2KIE6 FDV Fileset - Not Used. 18. OK, even THIS did not work... Theres nothing wrong with my source, its the same one I've been using since 2k release, all I did was slipstream SP4 on it. I test booted just that, works fine and reports only SP4 nothing else. Maybe I can checksum my w2k + SP4 only folder and compare it to someone elses or something? 19. Good list, does anyone know of something similar and up to date for Windows 2000? Theres a few sites I used to check ages ago but they're all gone and/or taken over by scumbags now. (one of them is a redirect to astalavista or whatever that site is that instant owns unpatched systems)
  20. Next I'm going to try just my base /i386 (2000 SP4) with FDV files only, no extra patches or cabs. If that works at least then I know its one of those **** files above causing trouble.
  21. I had no winnt.sif at all, unless theres one hidden in the default /i386 already. So that explains the $OEM$ problem It was in X:/hfslip/sources/$oem$/$$/system32 and if theres a way to dump a nice directory listing I'd do that. I've already given up and decided to not use the $OEM$ folder now, having files buried in system32 isn't real useful to me. Since they all run without installers I'll just chuck them in an /tools folder on the start menu manually. However I tried again to use FDV files and got the same error. I redownloaded a copy of sp5files.zip just to be sure. I removed scripten, dotnetfx and changed 1 or 2 other things like using the 2 XP files: COMPLETE THIS FILE AND ATTACH IT TO THE MESSAGEBOARD IF YOU RUN INTO PROBLEMS. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=129 =======================YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS SECTION========================== - Make a hfnetchk log - this is the COMMANDLINE HFNETCHK -V -F C:\WU.TXT - Other errors, not reported by HFNETCHK - Zip the information above and this file and post the info on the board listed on top. =========================DO NOT ALTER THE SECTION BELOW======================== HFSLIP Version - HFSLIP_60107.CMD Your path - D:\HFSLIP\ OS you are slipstreaming - 2000 Language you are working with - English IE6 Version - FDV FDV Fileset - Used. 22. I just noticed something else, with my "flawless" normal slipstream, it didn't do anything with all the programs in (CD):\$OEM$\$$\system32 ...I know I could just manually do it in 5 seconds but still I'm going to try a FDV fileset with no .net or scripten now.
  23. I deleted everything in FDV files and it worked flawlessly. #$%@#$% IE So something about my files doesn't mesh with FDV fileset...would scripten alone do it? What about dotnetfx, looking at that now I'm wondering if it demands IE or even IE6 I need .net for a few stupid stubborn programs unfortunately.
  24. I tested the SP4 only source (currently using it right now) and it works fine. Sucks reinstalling all the **** post SP4 updates so many times this last week but at least I already downloaded them all I ran hfslip again, burned, started setup and got the same error message after the files copied over and the first reboot. I wrote down the relevant info exactly this time: ------------ System Setup Log - (C:\WINNT\Setuperr.log) Fatal Error: Setup was unable to retrieve the product id because of the following error: RegQueryValueEx returned invalid data (Type = 1), or the Pid has invalid length (Length = 8). ------------ Then "blahblah your cd might be damaged, call support blahblah" (I did a write verify with nero during the burn, so a big fat NO on that, no problems booting off it and starting the installer, or scanning it on another computer) Am I stupid or isn't the product id == CD key? If so, why the hell doesn't it just ASK me to put it in manually like it does with the SP4 only cd...ideally once this works I'll be using it on more than 1 system anyways. I used all the files listed in the error log below, along with FDV's most recent sp5files.zip EXCEPT winnt.sif because I need the F6 option etc. CD looks exactly like this: i386\ - from SOURCESS CDROM_IP.5 - from SOURCESS CDROM_NT.5 - from SOURCESS cdromsp4.tst - from SOURCESS $OEM$\$$\system32 - utility exes like the ones listed on FDV's site, also from SOURCESS Drivers\ - duh Addons\ - installers for firefox etc (not brave enough to try slipstream/preinstalling those yet) Heres the current error log from hfslip but I think its identical anyways: COMPLETE THIS FILE AND ATTACH IT TO THE MESSAGEBOARD IF YOU RUN INTO PROBLEMS. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=129 =======================YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS SECTION========================== - Make a hfnetchk log - this is the COMMANDLINE HFNETCHK -V -F C:\WU.TXT - Other errors, not reported by HFNETCHK - Zip the information above and this file and post the info on the board listed on top.
