  1. @anonymous_user: Yes. Thank you. That really helped me out. But there was also another part to this perticular post which is why I didn't consider it double posting. @nuhi: You are of course right that app integration is not the most crucial part of your app(which btw is one of the best things to ever happen to the windows platform). It's just that it is very convenient to have everything in one package and that the features of the addon integration that I appreciated the most was not the features I found the easiest to replicate by other means. If you check out the link that anonymous_user posted you will see that the only current way to fill that particular hole is by dissecting the xp addons and adding them manually. I haven't played enough with this solution to say whether it is easy/problem-free or not so until I do my homework properly and find out how this all works I'll none the less miss the feature. Are there by chance any plans on adding it or should we look other places for a permanent solution? thx for your time
  2. Wow. I see that I forgot to specify that I needed this for vista but as far as I can see this does just that. You saved my day. thx
  3. I am still an XP and nLite user, but after ordering a laptop that will arrive with vista pre-installed I am thinking about doing the plunge and starting to use vlite. The first thing that strikes me as odd is that there is no support for addons in vlite. This being one of the most important features to me in nlite I tried to research the subject. After doing some searches I found several posts on the subject here but no answers. The closes I came was a post by nuhi where he asked the OP what the shortcomings of WPI was and why it could not replace addons for him. There was no answer and the thread died there. So after this I started researching WPI and found that it probably could replace the majority of the addons I integrate with nlite, but not the most important ones. For instance there is Kel's Uber addon, which I have come to depend on. And the simplicity of multi app addons for nirsoft or sysinternals. At this point I am confused. I can see the way forward but not all the steps to get there.
  4. Is there a way to get WPI to mimic Kel's uber addon and CPL bonus pack addon in WPI? Most importantly are the shell extensions and the Power Tweaks menu created with mmm.exe?
  5. you are correct that mmm.exe is kellsnellenelvian stuff, as is vistadrive and wallchange. Because my OS is nLited with plenty of addons a re-install will get me 90% of my system back to scratch with all the apps that I use. I know I perhaps shouldn't have because then we won't find the solution but I did do a re-install last night. I can say that the vistadrive that I now have and that is working and that came from kel is indeed located at the above listed location. But explorer and autorun is gone. thx for your help and time.
  6. But why those programs? VistaDrive is a program I installed and use. mmm.exe is a program I installed and use. WallChan.exe is a program I installed and use. All of these I know are safe and have always been present. Explorer.exe I'm fairly sure is safe and autorun.exe is most likely a copy of the autorun on a disc I've inserted. Anyway, that file is located in the temp dir and crapcleaner will remove it promptly. Sorry, not to be rude or anything, and I appreciate the effort, but I don't see why that is good advice?
  7. I am pretty sure I'm infected with a trojan. Whenever I use IE7 to browse in general I get this error message: If I hit OK I get redirected to a bogus anti-spyware site. My system is Windows XP pro. I have ESET Smart Security up to date and I have spybot up to date. Neither catches this thing. Further more I tried running SmitfraudFix in SafeMode which did not work either. plz help. 8. I followed this guide http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321379 to add the Print Directory Listng feature to explorer. When I Right-click on a folder I'd like to print all that happens is that an emptycmd prompt window opens and an empty notepad document opens. When I close the notepad document both windos disaooear. To find out what was wrong I googled a little but could find no mentions of this anywhere. Then I tried to open a cmd prompt at the interesting folder and try this command " dir %1 /-p /o:gn > "%temp%\Listing" " and then eventually this command " dir %1 /-p /o:gn > "C:\Listing.txt" ", both of which produced a "File not found" error, even though the file C:\Listing.txt actually existed for the last attempt. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
  9. Well. I was googleing this issue and trying all kinds of methods to get it to work. Eventually I uninstalled nLite, went over to the nliteos website and grabbed an older version of nLite. Then i took my SP2 XP pro and used this older nLite to add addons, drivers, tweaks and remove stuff. Then I added WMP 11 and then I tested it in VMware, and guess what. Everything worked. I think there is something fishy about the last release, at least when it comes to WMP 11. So try grabbing an older copy of nLite and see if that does the trick. It did for me.
  10. I just created a new nlited disk which i was planning on installing today, but for the first time I was adding a new component. The WMP11 slipstreamer, so I decided to test it in VMware first and during installation I got this error message: unregmp2.exe - Unable to locate component This application has failed to start because WMDRMSDK.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. Has anyone encountered this error before or know what's wrong? After i log on I also get this error message: RUNDLL Error loading srclient.dll The specified module could not be found. Anyone have some info on that?
  11. 1) Yes, I can view the built in monitor menu just fine. 2) When I say Lock I mean (and I have XP) that I hit the "Win+L" key combo to lock the machine with a password. I know it is not the power settings because I have never changed them and the problem has been appearing only lately. Besides, becasue I'm so familiar with the OS I'm able though keyboard shortcuts to log in and mess around, and when I get the expected windows sounds I know that I should have a picture, but I don't. Last thing is. This doesn't happen all the time, and sometimes after a while the image just comes back. But sometimes I have to restart the machine and then everything instantly works fine.
  12. I have a NEC MultiSync 90GX2 and a xfx 7800gt. When I boot my computer from cold everything works just fine. The monitor turns on and I get a picture. However, if I lock my computer to the welcome screen, turn off the monitor and leave for a while, when I come back I got no image on my screen even though the led indicating activity on the screen stays lit. Normally if the monitor gets no signal that led changes but in this case the led stays lit and the monitor is black. Though it is not the powered off kind of black but one where you can see slight white washout on the edges. What is happening?
  13. I need to backup some files to another local drive. I thought this would be a pretty straight forward process with Acronis True Image 10 home but it constantly freezes at a random percentage below 10. And it's not just the same file every time either. I've tried to run the app several times with different settings with no luck, I've uninstalled and r-installed. I've tried to google for a solution, but nothing comes up. The program doesn't really freeze either. It appears to be working and is responsive, but it won't allow me to cancel the opperation even though I do get dialogue boxes that asks me if I'm sure and so on. Anyway, I've given up on that app unless someone has a suggestion as to what is wrong? I had a look at Norton Ghost, but I have no good experiences with norton apps. I've tried to google for some good review comparisons of backup software but I haven't found anything good. So I'm hoping someone here has a good suggestion I might try.
  14. This is crazy. I removed my memory modules from my machine and put them into another. Then I ran MemTest from hcidesign (included in Kel's packs over at RyanVM). It found some errors on the memory. I wrote down three of the reported ones and re ran the app. It found more errors but not the same ones. Sensing foul play I then ran Memtest86+ for two passes. It found no errors. Then to be sure I ran GoldMemory. It found 2 errors. So, what's up with that? I then took the memory from the other computer and put into mine. It is also 2x512 mb and I made sure to use the same two memory lanes on the mobo that I'd used with my own ram. I've completed one pass of Memtest86+ with no errors and are currently running Gold Memory on it. At 57% so far it's found nothing. What do you guys think about this?
  15. All my memory lanes are equally shot cause at the time I tried all of the lanes to see if that would help. (Cause the machine wasn't starting with ddr2 mem). I should also tell you that the machine can run fine for days without any BSOD. The thing is that as long as I don't run any memory intensive apps I don't have problems. In fact I'm using the machine to type this message right now. My main problem is that I don't really have anywhere to backup the data as there is 400 GB of it. What I'd really like to know is if there is a way to migrate the RAID array to a new mobo without loosing any data?
  16. Thanks for your reply. I'll try to give you as much amount of info as possible and I really appriciate you taking your time. This problem probably started when I built the computer originally. My mobo is an ASUS A8N-E and the two drives are a couple of 250 GB seagates SATA drives. They are split into two partitions. One roughly 70 GB and the other roughly 400GB. The smaller one holds my OS (nLited WinXP) and essential apps. The other holds ALL my files, music, movies, games, you name it. Things I don't wanna loose. At the time I was building the machine I somehow thought that I needed DDR2 memory. This being a socket 939 amd system I obviously didn't but before I RTFM I had forced the DDR2 ram into the memory lanes and was scratching my head as to why things wasn't working. After I finally realized my mistake I sent back the DDR2 ram and got hold of a pair of good old OCZ DDR modules. Since then the computer's been working pretty good until recently (a few months) when I was getting more and more frequent BSOD's. I re-installed the OS but it only provided a temporary fix of sorts and then after running a mem test it became obvious that this have to have been the source of the error. Obviously the DDR2 memory much have somehow stretched the contacts in the memory lanes and though ware they have now become so degraded that I get frequent errors. The mobo has a built in RAID controller and at the time it seemed like a good idea to squeeze some extra performance out of the machine. The array is working just perfectly, in fact, the machine works nicely as long as I don't fill up the memory enough for it to hit that bad spot. My main problem is that I have about a 0 budget. Even buying back the same mobo is a stretch. Here's my complete list of system specs: Asus A8N-E 1 GB OCZ DDR X-Fi sound card amd 3800+ X2 cpu 2 - 250 GB seagate SATA drives in RAID 0 I appriciate any suggestions that will save my situation, and it would be better to spend some money then to loose my files.
  17. My Mother Board (MB) is damaged, meaning that the memory lanes are not reading the memory correctly resulting in all kinds of BSOD's. I need to replace my MB but I have two 250 GB SATA disks in a RAID 0 config. It is not really possible for me to backup the data because I don't have room for it anywhere. What are my options? thx in advance.

  19. Hi, I recently tries to install WMP 11. The insatallation started normally and it progressed to the "installing user mode framework" (or something along those lines) when suddenly my machine crashed. I didn't get a BSOD or nothing. It just rebooted. After the restart I tried installing it again but the same thing happened. I then tried to use the system restore point that the installer creates to restore my machine but it crashed during that as well. After all this I keep getting frequent random crashes when I try to launch apps that worked fine before. It seems to me that part of WMP 11 was installed and it is doing something funky to my machine. There is no entries in "Add/Remove programs", so how do I get rid of this. TIA Fr33m4n.
  20. I'll admit that I haven't read all the posts fully but to me some of you seem to be missing the point. Hardware is getting better and better and 4Gb of RAM will at some point become standard. If you benchmark 4Gb RAM XP against 4Gb Vista, you'll see that Vista IS way BETTER. And that's the thing, Vista WASN'T designed for the computer of yesterday. It WAS designed for the computer of tomorrow. SuperFetch is by design made to hogg all your RAM and ReadyBoost will speed up system load times with the right hardware in the right situations. I recently read an article on engadget where a guy tested out Vista on a new macbook pro. He said that vista was faster and more responsive then os x on that same machine.
  21. I belive I have a seriously f'ed up XP install. I get on average about 11 BSOD's a day and IE is changing the default font of webpages and inputting russian characters sometimes, though FF renders everything just fine. So I figured I'd do a Repair install. But I can't, cause I don't get the option during install, and I think that's because XP is installed on a RAID 0 setup. I have a søipstreamed XP disc with tweaks made using nLite. I removed the winnt.sif file to get the Welcome to Setup screen but that didn't help. I also tried running the System File checker but it won't recognize my XP disc. So I'm kinda out of ideas. A clean install would be kinda hard at this point so I would prefer to avoid it, but I'd appricate any help in fixing the problem. My main frustration is that I can't steadily reproduce the BSOD so I don't really know where to begin. thx for any help in advance.
  22. I have a printer that is USB only. It runs on USB 2.0 and plugs into a USB 2.0 port. Thing is. I have this app that I'd like to use with the printer, but it only supports USB 1.1 and in fact will cause instant BSOD if I try to use it directly over the USB 2.0 interface. For that reason I was wondering if there is a way to throttle the connection speed to usb 1.1 speed. TIA
  23. I'm using Symantec AV and have had no major problems with it. Now the Norton line of products is a totally different matter. For FW I'm using Look'n'Stop which I switched to from ZA. This setup works for me though I still feel that the products are far from perfect so it would be interesting to hear what other people are using. I know my uncle uses the F-secure suit on his laptop and it is **** slow. I've tried both NOD 32 and kaspersky in the past and was less then impressed. Slowdowns and tons of false positives made norton seem like a good product.
  24. Yup, seems like the only option at this point. So I guess that's what I'll do. thx for all the help.
  25. Well, here's something interesting. When I try to create a new folder on that drive, and rename it to the same name of the folder that went missing I get this error: But, I can rename that folder to whatever else I'd like as long as it's not the same name as the missing folder. Furthermore, I noticed that if I open up a command prompt and navigate to the drive I can't see the folder, as expected. BUT, if I try: "E:\cd (name of missing folder)" I get no error message, though it does not complete the command. But if I try: "E:\cd (fake folder name)" I get a "The system cannot find the path specified" error. I don't know if this is helpful in any way. Appriciate the input this far and hoping for more.
