  1. it works fine on xp systems with wmp 11 installed. i could never get wmp 11 on vista to work through firefox. it should work if we could re-install wmp 11.
  2. one of your logs say that you are low on virtual mem. you should at least double check what you have that set to. the default is system managed.
  3. well you can try it for a bit to see if it really is the firewall that is blocking your programs from making new connections. if it doesn't make any difference after you disable it, then we can rule out the firewall as the cause of the problem.
  4. Another thing you can do to permanently make firefox your default brower (along with jaws75's tip) is to go to startmenu->Default Programs->Set Program Access and Defaults->Custom you can even disable your computer from accessing internet explorer from here.
  5. why don't you disable the vista firewall and see if that works.
  6. actually, cable modems aren't really routers. only dsl modems act as routers. i'm currently using utorrent and emule with 4 half-open connections for utorrent and 4 half-open connections for emule. i'm getting the 4226 event id only once a day. but it doesn't kill my net connection. double check your other apps to see if they aren't hogging your half open connections. and if you still are having problems, the last thing you can do to try to resolve your net problems is to turn of vista's auto tuning. Turning off auto-tuning is a simple command line command (running with Admin rights): netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled and to enable again: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
  7. i had the this same exact problem. in order to resolve this, they say you have to disable spi in your router. it has something to do with vista's tcp window scaling not being compatible with most routers. although sometimes that doesn't fix it completely. for my router (linksys rv042), i had to disable the router firewall completely and i no longer have connection problems. try either one and see if it works for you. as soon as linksys updates their firmware for the rv042 to support tcp window scaling, i should be able to enable the firewall again.
  8. i had this error when i had nero installed. the nero codecs interfere with vista making thumbnails for folders that contain videos.
  9. you're welcome. now just hope someone makes a tcpip.sys patch for vista.
  10. not the same performance, imo. but you won't be getting the 4226 errors as often. which will help when you web surf while downloading from bt.
  11. set your half open connections to 4 in your bt client and you should be fine. i had mine set at 100+ on XP with the 4226 patch but without the patch, you can't have anything higher on vista without a patch.
  12. i also tried disabled just windows firewall and ipv6 with no luck. seems like disabling my router firewall lowers the amount of 4226 errors and my internet becomes more stable.
  13. imo, the realtek drivers work alot better than the microsoft/nvidia drivers. no bsod's and working 5.1 surround sound.
  14. realtek just released new ac97 drivers. you can find them here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downlo...p;GetDown=false with these drivers, i finally got my 5.1 surround working through spdif
  15. it's because of your video codecs like nero dvd and powerdvd. i uninstalled both and i no longer get those errors.
  16. seems just disabling SPI in my router isn't enough. i had to disable the router firewall completely. i hope there's a fix for this soon...
  17. thanks for the info. i figured out why my connections were timing out. everything else but internet explorer, or course. it was because i had SPI enabled in my router. i disabled that and re-enabled auto tuning and everything seems to work fine now. thanks.
  18. well i've been searching around and found that disabling tcp auto tuning helps out alot. (although it doesn't have much to do with my original post) -link
  19. everytime i reach the limit, i get a major slowdown when surfing the web. the tcpip.sys patch that worked with XP doesn't work with vista. does anyone know how to get around this tcp connection limits?
  20. run the install exe in administrator mode.
  21. here's mine: hmm... seems like my 1gb flash drive is being used for video mem from the readyboost setting. interesting...
