  1. Don't Use the WAN port. Use a regular cable and go from the uplink port on one of the devices to a regular port on the other. If you already bought a crossover cable and just want use it then go between the two uplink ports. You will not get all 4 ports from the linksys. You can only use 3 ports and 4 is coupled with the uplink.
  2. You said you tried a fixed IP address but nothing happened, but we don't know what it was you wanted to happen. Could you still not see the box or you could you not talk to it in some way that you thought you would be able to? I would not arbitrarily suggest using the Win2k3 box for DHCP. The router can handle that function fine. What is the purpose of the box? Is it a webserver, domain, database, etc.? If it's for a domain then you will definitely want to use it as the DHCP server if it's one of the other purposes not necessarily. Just FYI andress of 169.254.x.x iss not a detected IP address. If you look in the logs it will tell you that it could not get an IP address from a DHCP server. Those addresses are what Windows assings to a machine that couldn't get a lease from a DHCP server.
  3. We have a broadband connection here in the house. I have a small network of 3 to 4 computers that I have behind an XP sp2 machine running ICS. Anybody have any idea how I can get a port to run all the way back to me using UPnP? The router is a linksys router & it has UPnP enabled. I didn't want to have to program the port in to the router for one because if I need a change or want to use another port I would have to get the guy to do & second because that's waht UPnP is supposed to be for. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks
  4. Remote Desktop is nice but it has some serious bandwidth requirements. I haven't compared the speed to too many others. I generally use real VNC when not using Remote Desktop. Remote Desktop lags though even over highspeed but you canm tone it down by tuning it right.
  5. I am looking for some software that will request a port mapping using UPnp. I would like to be able to have a machine that is running a service behind a firewall request the port that it needs. ICS sort of allows for this in that you can tie a port to a name instead of an IP address, but I don't know of a router that allows this & if there is one I don't have it. Thanks, Chuck
