  10. I have decided to use this method. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=17144 i start the install from the network with Winnt.exe /s:U:\i386 /t:C /u:Winnt.sif it starts the install but it seems to hang for a long time on the blue screen " Please wait while copying files", but it eventually starts the install and finishes it. does anyone know why it is so slow?, takes 45 minutes before the yellow bar even appears any suggestions would be appreciated.
  11. I think those commands only work for winnt32.exe and not winnt.exe? I still get "cannot find a place for the swap file"
  12. well i mapped to my share with the contents of my nlite cd. I went in the I386 folder and ran winnt.exe and I get the following error message Could not find a place for a swap file. Setup cannot continue.
  13. ok a got the bootdisk mapping to the share with where the contents of my nlite cd is. If i start the install with winnt.exe can you guys forsee any issues that could come up
  14. I made a network boot cd(win98), that loads the nic drivers and then I used the command. net use u: \\ComputerName\sharefolder I wanted to put the contents of my nlite cd in the share folder and start the installing from the share using winnt.exe But my boot cd bombs out net use command and i get cannot locate registry. HELP ME
  15. Thanks for the reply. Yes something like freedos on a boot cd that will load the nic driver and then map to a network share using the tried and true net use. I read what you wrote about the OEM, but excuse my ignorance here, I don't quite understand what you mean?. This will be the first time I try an unattended install from a network share. if you could elaborate a bit more on the OEM portion of your post i would greatly appreciate it.
  16. can you explain me why it is better to use the bartpe disk as opposed to a "normal" boot cd that loads the nic driver and maps to the network share? I really don't understand the upside of using bartpe disc.
  17. Do I have to use the bartpe boot disk? I was hoping to make a network boot cd that loads the nic driver, maps to a network share using the net use command, and then fire off the windows xp install using the winnt32.exe command. Obviously this network share will contain the contents of my unattended nlite xp cd.
  18. So you install the windows xp from a network share? how did you do it. Please help
  19. so no one has tried to put there Nlite cd on a network share and tried to run it from there?
  20. Hi I have my nlite cd working perfectly, with the os and many apps installed like a charm. Now I would like to transfer my Nlite cd to a network share, and start the install from the network share. Is this possible?, how would a go about this?.
  21. Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to do a windows xp unattended install from a shared network drive. I'd rather not use RIS because I do not have a domain. I am on a Novell Network. Is there a tutorial I can follow to do this. any help would be greatly appreciated.
