  1. Hi everyone,

I have a Server core installation that holds the PDC emulator FSMO role, using a WMI query pushed out by GPO im going to make all clients update their Time&Date from the PDC. Does anyone know how to configure the time service on a server core box?

    if i run W32tm /register i get an access denied error, even though i am running as admin? :}

    Thanks for any help

EDIT: actually i think its already an NTP server i ran W32tm /query /configuration and it looks enabled but the time is set wrong. If i run net time /setsntp:"timeserver" it comes back with the wrong time though :( what am i doing wrong?

EDIT2: LOL i can just run "control timedate.cpl" :P who would have thought?

  2. Hi everyone,

I have a physical windows server 2008 box here, very good spec and i wanted to capture it to a wim file. I ran sysprep with generalize and oobe and then booted into winpe.

I mapped a network drive and ran a image /capture which completed fine.

Now when the server boots back up it is stuck on the grey screen where it says "please wait while windows continues setting up your computer"

    Does anyone know why?

    Thank you for any help/advice

    EDIT:

I have just applied the captured WIM image to a VM and its doing the same thing

  3. Hi all,

im building an X86 Winpe Disc and would like to be able to test it in VMWare but i cannot for the life of me integrate the drivers. I pointed peimg at the c:\prog~1\vmware directory and it integrated 3 drivers, iv built the disc properly, but it still doesnt pickup an ip when i boot a VM.

Can anyone tell me where i can get the drivers from please?

    Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind i found them here and have integrated them

  4. Sp3 has a few new things besides just a roll-up of updates. Iv not paid much attention to these differences to be honest since iv been on X64 for sometime now. Anyway one thing i know is that SP3 has the NAP service, which in a corporate environment allows machines to be quarantined if they dont meet specific security standards (missing AV signatures and patches etc) This is paticularly useful for laptops.

Aside from that i really dont know what else is different myself.

You might want to read through the whitepaper on it:

  5. Thanks PuntoMX and jCarle, thats good advice from both of you. :)

If i assume then that the bus between the north and south bridge is the bottleneck and go with an Asus board with an Intel chipset then all should be ok :)

    Thank you

P.S i did ask the guy if he had any documentation on this in my first email but he didnt say anything other than what i quoted, its a shame really as it would be nice to have a KB article or something on this type of thing.
