1. I don't wanna bother, but the "some numbers" would be helpfull, too. NTFS.SYS could mean that it's something with the file system, and I would guess it has something to do with the filter driver used to mount images... but not for sure... Martin EDIT: If you've Antivirus Software installed on your Vista, please disable it and than try again.
2. Please click on Start button and than rightclick Computer and choose Properties. Click on Advanced System Settings and on the Advanced tab click on Settings under Startup and Recovery. Now disable the checkbox Automatically reboot. Now you will be able to read the blue screen. Regards, Martin
3. Hello tonycrew! What does the blue screen tell you exactly and what OS you're running. Are you using an original install.wim or do you use one that was captured or modified before? Regards, Martin
4. Hello AHRIMANSEFID! You just need to copy the install.wim from your Vista DVD \sources directory to a directory on your HD. Than you put the location of this directory to the line: SET vpath=%CD% for example: SET vpath=D:\VistaDVD That requires that you've copied the Vista DVD to the VistaDVD folder on your D: drive (D:\VistaDVD). All the rest is done by the batch. Regards, Martin
5. Hello shampoo! I don't undestand what you're talking about exactly. Regards, Martin
6. Hello VATERNL! Before redoing everything... just to make sure, that we're talking about the same overview window: I've no picture present ATM, but my is a little window, were it shows the Apps wich supposed to be installed - listed by their description. In your case it would look like this: OPERA_9.21_ENG SMARTFTP_V2.5.1006.4 KLITE_MEGA_C0DEC_PACK_V2.10 WINAMP_V5.35 . . . Once it has finished installing an app it will be checked with a green checkmark in front of it. In background the cmd's are popping up and - depending on the app, that's installed - I see the one or other progress bar windows popping up. If you don't see this little window, than you should try to redo everything. Regards, Martin
7. Hello VATERNL! I don't see any errors inside your xml, which could causing your problem. What kind of DVD you're using. Is it may be an OEM DVD? Or has it been modified using vlite? Regards, Martin
8. Hello VATERNL! The cmd /c command is necessary to get it worked with %Appsroot% environment variable. Without cmd /c it would not install directly from media and this is at least causing the cmd windows, so you can't get rid of these screens - or better I would not know how to get rid of it. But if you install in auditPass - like you do - you will get the overview list. I guess you don't get such list for the moment, cause you don't use a Description. Please fill out the Description tags (

) and you should get the overview window again - but you'll still have the poping up cmd boxes in background. Regards, Martin
9. Hello spacesurfer! You can use setx command to save variables to system envrionment. setx is included in Vista. For XP you need to extract setx from MS Support Tools for XP Service Pack 2. Syntax: setx variable value (-m) -m is optional, it will set the variable to machine environment. Without -m it's set to users environment. Regards, Martin
10. Hi, zedox! Well this is what I've tried to explain in the post here. Do you set your user tweaks within the cmds? Than it would be interesting to have a look at these cmds, too. Regards, Martin
11. Hello spacesurfer! You can check for NUL, if you want to find out, if folder does exist: IF EXIST D:\Images\NUL your command, if D:\Images does exist OR IF NOT EXIST D:\Images\NUL your command, if D:\Images does NOT exist Regards, Martin
12. Hello zedox! OK... we need to check now, if your registry tweaks are applied at all. So please remove the following lines from your Autounattend.xml: <RunSynchronousCommand wcm:action="add"> <Order>120</Order> %WINDIR%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /quiet /oobe /reboot /unattend:%AppsRoot%\Install\Unattend.xml
Restarting
</RunSynchronousCommand> Setup will stop in audit mode now and the second unattend.xml will not be executed. So you can check, if the tweaks are applied before copying the profile - you may need to do a reboot after setup has finished. If the tweaks are not applied, it means that there is something wrong with the path to your .reg file. If they would be applied, than please let me know. BTW, do you use an original Ultimate version or was it captured before or edited using vlite? Regards, Martin
13. @Ruud: Thanks for the feedback. BTW I would never recommend to replace unattend.xml inside Panther dir/subdir. This can end up very confusing and is not recommended by MS, too. @zedox: I've found three things: no 1: 2007-05-31 11:22:35, Info [setupugc.exe] Finished executing [cmd /c %AppsRoot%\Install\"Software Files"\"7-Zip 4.46 (beta)"\"7-Zip 4.46 (alpha).cmd"] synchronously 2007-05-31 11:22:35, Info [setupugc.exe] Process returned with exit code 0x1 Seems to me that this cmd is not executed - might be caused by the brackets. no 2: 2007-05-31 11:35:13, Info [msoobe.exe] No display mode found that matches criteria Your system seems to have problems, if you don't set the refresh rate. So please set the refresh rate. BTW my system is comming up with the same error if I set the refresh rate inside xml file. So I'm forced not to set the refresh rate. But both errors should not cause your main problem. no 3: 2007-05-31 11:28:56, Info [windeploy.exe] ------------------------------------------------ 2007-05-31 11:28:56, Info [windeploy.exe] WinDeploy.exe launched with command-line []... 2007-05-31 11:28:56, Info [windeploy.exe] Setup has not completed, adding pending reboot. 2007-05-31 11:28:56, Info [windeploy.exe] UnattendSearchExplicitPath: Found unattend file at [C:\Windows\Panther\unattend.xml]; examining for applicability. 2007-05-31 11:28:56, Info [windeploy.exe] UnattendSearchExplicitPath: [C:\Windows\Panther\unattend.xml] does not meet criteria to be used for this unattend pass. 2007-05-31 11:28:58, Info [windeploy.exe] Found no unattend file. 2007-05-31 11:28:58, Info [windeploy.exe] Found generalization state [0x4], setup.exe completion flag [False] --> launching setup.exe. 2007-05-31 11:28:58, Info [windeploy.exe] Launching [C:\Windows\system32\oobe\setup.exe]... 2007-05-31 11:33:20, Info [windeploy.exe] Process exited with exit code [0x0] 2007-05-31 11:33:20, Info [windeploy.exe] Found completion flag [True], reboot requested flag [True] --> rebooting computer before proceeding with deployment... 2007-05-31 11:33:20, Info [windeploy.exe] Making sure that SystemSetupInProgress is cleared. 2007-05-31 11:33:20, Info [windeploy.exe] An immediate reboot or shutdown was requested/required... rebooting / shutting down computer 2007-05-31 11:33:20, Info [windeploy.exe] Flushing registry to disk... 2007-05-31 11:33:21, Info [windeploy.exe] Flush took 672 ms. 2007-05-31 11:33:21, Info [windeploy.exe] WinDeploy.exe exiting with code [0x0] 2007-05-31 11:35:09, Info [windeploy.exe] ------------------------------------------------ This section differs from my result. It follows the application installation section. I don't have the Flush here. My system just reboots and than goes on executing specialize pass of unattend.xml. But your specialize pass is not executed - so CopyProfile can't run - and system boots right to oobe pass. I suspect one of your installation cmds causing a delay which is causing the flush. I could imagine that one of your cmds is still running while setup is trying to execute sysprep.exe /generalize. Could you please verfiy that. Regards, Martin EDIT: The Flush could be caused by some hardware, which is not installed during setup, too. Do you may use some hardware, which Vista does not detect/install the drivers for? Than remove it for test or if you can't remove install the drivers during setup. If this still does not help out you should recreate both xml files "manually" using WSIM.
14. Hello zedox! Sorry, but your log is telling something different : 2007-05-29 16:23:34, Info [setupugc.exe] Found run command in registry: path = [%WINDIR%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /quiet /oobe /reboot] 2007-05-29 16:23:34, Info [setupugc.exe] Found RunSynchronous command: [%WINDIR%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /quiet /oobe /reboot] If you would have copied it exactly the lines would look like this: 2007-05-29 16:23:34, Info [setupugc.exe] Found run command in registry: path = [%WINDIR%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /quiet /oobe /reboot /unattend:%AppsRoot%\Install\Unattend.xml] 2007-05-29 16:23:34, Info [setupugc.exe] Found RunSynchronous command: [%WINDIR%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /quiet /oobe /reboot /unattend:%AppsRoot%\Install\Unattend.xml] It's not executing generalization and so it's not copying the profile. There is an other thing showing, that "my" xml files are not used: I've changed your Timezone setting to Greenwich Standard Time, cause your setting was wrong here, too. Now it's using the wrong setting again: 2007-05-29 16:27:55, Warning [Shell Unattend] TimeZone: Unknown time zone '(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time : Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London' Do you wipe your disk during setup? If not please wipe it, cause it could use a xml file from an earlier setup run in worst case. Something is messed up with your xml files for the moment, please check again. Regards, Martin
15. Hello zedox! Have you used the both xml files like I've posted or have you done any modifications? Regards, Martin Edit: Would you please post your log files setuperr.log and setupact.log (located in: %windir%\Panther\UnattendGC).
16. Ok... please let me know if it will work or not. I would have to change the guide than. Thanks, Martin
17. Hello zedox! For the moment you have an folder called Install, which does contain subfolders with apps installation files, so your structure looks like this: Removable Media: | |__ Install | |___ Registry Tweaks | |___ Software Files | | | |___ 7-Zip 4.45 (beta) | | | |___ Adboe Flash Player | | | | | etc. | |___ Unattend.xml You can put it to an other location, too, certainly. Than you have to adapt the following line inside Autounattend.xml to your needs: <RunSynchronousCommand wcm:action="add"> <Order>120</Order> %WINDIR%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /quiet /oobe /reboot /unattend:%AppsRoot%\Install\Unattend.xml
Restarting
</RunSynchronousCommand> Just change /unattend:%AppsRoot%\Install\Unattend.xml to what ever you need. Regards, Martin
18. Hello zedox! Did a test install with your Autounattend.xml and it was not working for me, too. Have not figured out why yet but I've a workaround I was using before: You have to use two answer files. The first answer file will process evrything till auditUser pass. Using sysprep generaliz a second xml is called, which will do the rest: Autounattend.xml: <unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend"> <settings 19. AFAIK it does slipstream the updates / hotfixes. It's normal behaviour of install.wim that it's growing, once you change something. If you want to reduce the size of install.wim after doing changes, you need to export install.wim to a new .wim file. Regards, Martin
20. Hello again! For the moment I'm very busy ATM but at the weekend, I'll use your Autounattend.xml to install Vista on my test system. Let's see what will hapen. Regards, Martin
21. Hello arablizzard2413! Well, what you're doing with your set_dirs.cmd is done by perpelab.cmd of my Vista Batch Modules. Have a look at the build_menu.cmd, which is creating the menu by install.wim index. Thats more flexible instead fo checking for "Business", "Ultimate" etc.. Regards, Martin
22. Hello woodswalker! That is simple. Just remove everything from Autounattend.xml, that you want to enter manually. Regards, Martin
