  1. Opening it with Media Player classic: It says "Opening..." for less than 1 sec, then the famous crash window show up says: Media Player Classic encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, blabla bla " and you can choose of "Send Error Report" and "Don't send". Opening it winxmedia: Crashes almost immediately with the same window showing up (it says WinX Media instead of Media Player Classic ofcourse).
  2. I removed the key, rebooted, nothing changed. Also unregistred shimgvw.dll, nothing changed either. Problem still occurs What cluberti says seems to be right, explorer crashes whenever it tries to make a thumbnail... EDIT: OK combining Jeremy's method and what cluberti said I did "regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll", and it stopped explorer.exe from crashing, however I still can't play the files with media player classic, can't edit the files with Winxmedia (some video converter mentioned before) either...
  3. movie.avi was just an example, I got other avi files which somehow make DEP crashing explorer.exe. I'll look for "fixavi" just to make sure then. I tried browsing with "nero showtime", nero's media player, and opened the avi, ran without problems. I don't know why explorer crashes when I only browse to the folder containing the avi. Media player classic crashes too when I open the avi with this program. I'm using video converter program called WinxMedia, when I try to open the avi with this program, it crashes as well... edit: I tried fixing the avi with videofixer (http://www.fixvideo.com/download.html), same problems occur...
  4. I read this article: http://www.zensoftware.co.uk/kb/article.aspx?id=10002 I followed the steps. Now no message of DEP comes up, explorer immediately crashes when I explore to the folder... So disabling DEP doesn't work. :S Anyone suggestions?
  5. "I tried adding Windows Explorer under "Turn on DEP except for those I select", but the problem still occurs." this was done under ""My Computer" ---> Properties ---> Advanced ---> Settings (under Performance) ---> Data Execution Prevention" Windows doesn't let you turn off completely, only exceptions are possible.
  6. Maybe it helps if I disable DEP? I don't find it useful anyways. Anyone knows how?
  7. media player classic 6.4.9.0, latest version. Works perfectly with other media files.
  8. Hi I've always played some avi file called movie.avi without problems. But recently Data Execution Prevention starts closing eplorer.exe whenever I open the folder which contains that avi. I tried adding Windows Explorer under "Turn on DEP except for those I select", but the problem still occurs. How can I solve this? Also is it true that SFC=DEP, meaning that if I disable SFC, DEP is also disabled?
  9. Hi, I’m looking for a tool that can control the sound output of individual programs. I googled it, and found exactly what I was looking for: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhan...dieVolume.shtml However the trial version ends in 7 days. Does anyone know a freeware tool similar to this program?
  10. Bah winsnap is shareware now, does anyone have the old freeware installer?
  11. Hi, I'm making a XP install disk with some updates integrated. I copied my xp cd to my pc, integrated SP2 using nlite. While the nlite wizard is on the tweaking page, I'm using ryanvm's integrator to integrate the post sp2 pack. However the program is stuck on "Compressing Files"... 13. Ah thanks for the reply. Is it also true 32bit programs will run without problems 64bit pc, as long the OS is 32bit as well?
  14. Hi, I'm about to buy a new PC since my old one is already 6 years old. It's gonna be a 64bit PC. However, I want to be able to play old 32bit games, which I heard it's only possible with a 32bit OS. Is it possible to install a 32bit OS on a 64bit machine? I want a system with dual boot 64bit vista and 32bit XP.
  15. Hi, Normally when I boot the pc my pc first peforms a hardware scan, giving information about my hardware and if it functions well. But lately a problem showed up. Sometimes when i boot my pc my harddisk makes a ticking noise, it says my hard disk has a failure. It get stucks then and wont go to windows. Then when I restart the pc it says I have no harddisk. After shutting down the pc and wait a couple of hours it goes normal again. This happens too when I'm in windows. Suddenly the harddisk freezes and makes a ticking noise, then I can't do anything on it anymore. Does this mean my harddisk is defect?
  16. thanks for the reply. There is a input box for temp folder, but option "Use only for removable disks" is vinked, so I don't think it will solve my problem... [edit] I just tried it, same results as mentioned in first post [/edit
  17. Hi all, I've got a winrar file with a file inside it of 4,5 GB. I've got two harddisks, C:\ (FAT32) and D:\ (NTFS). My OS is installed and running on C:\. Like most of you know FAT32 has a filesize limit of 4gb. The rar file is on C:\. I tried to unrar it to D:\, which gave me an error saying only NTFS supporting filesize over 4gb. Probably the program is first unraring the file on C:\, then moving it to D:\. I also tried moving the winrar file to D:\, then unraring it from there, however it gave me the same error. I think my problem is that winrar uses a temporary folder in C:\, so it always has to go past C:\. Is there a way to disable winrar using a temp folder so I can unrar the file from D to D directly? Or maybe have winrar unraring it in parts of, for example, 1 GB, so the limit won't be exceeded? Thanks in advance
  18. Hi, thanks for the reply. I just tried Autohotkey, and figured it out. However when I remap the ctrl+space hotkey, the hotkey won't work in maple as well...
  19. Hi, I'm on a non English Windows. I'm using Maple which uses the ctrl+space hotkey, however that is already a hotkey for my windows to change input type. So whenever i use the hotkey, it doesn't execute in Maple. Is there a way to disable this hotkey in Windows?
  20. Thanks for the link, it worked!
  21. Hi, I had some malware on my pc before, but I completed erased it now, however it still left some traces behind. My right click menu was disabled. I ran [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoViewContextMenu"=dword:00000000 which enabled me to right click my desktop, however the IE right click won't come back. It's not the website, I tried all kinds of sites, none gave me a right click menu. Anyone knows the problem?
