1. I added a ton of NLS files to the [RemoveFiles] section in my nLite "Last Session.ini" I know its safe to remove these NLS files, my system right now is working without most of them, I keep only certain ones, which are all kept under [KeepFiles] so its working, but I am left with those dozens of NLS files despite telling nLite not to check dependencies etc and all the files are indeed listed, also they are all cabbed files so should work... Theres a load of XLS files the same, nLite keeps them even though they are listed for removal. Please don't tell me I have to manually edit TXTSETUP.SIF again, nLite RUINS that if you put a semi-colon next to a filename, then use nlite, all your commented out files are gone and theres no way then to know where its up to.
2. will suppress the echoing of 'copied n file(s) successfully' OK so, is there much this doesn't work for? Up to now it works for... DEL REG Even though those command line programs do not show any support for >Nul I guess its trial and error the same as always.
3. Why is this in the nLite forum? You only found out its not nLite after posting? Without the exact same devices its hard for anyone to answer since theres no error number or anything to go off in the first post. If you removed stuff in nLite then post the LS.ini
4. Sorry its an oldie but I gotta reply, that was a killer comment Nuhi.
5. All the stuff he wants doing is done with registry tweaks anyway, not Autounattend.xml Get a brain - instead of asking other people to do it for you, get Installrite and monitor each change as you do it, then use the registry info. Or you could use ExamDiff Pro to compare registry before/after. You won't get what you want asking others to do it, you gotta customize Windows yourself.
6. All that hacking with ResHacker confuses me, why not make the silent installer with WinRAR? Please don't say "why are you asking that in a 7z topic" Just seems simpler with WinRAR, you only need the comment and pack a QBFC exe with it to do the business. You can even pack in 7za.exe and do it that way with a 7z archive inside the WinRAR SFX archive.
7. You would think the numbers "2002" in the title might have given some clue. Norton = crap. Use Kaspersky / NOD32 / Symantec Corp
8. Its pretty clever how MS made it so its all shared like that. I think I have found the answer, on Vista but if you do the same in XP I am sure its going to have similar results... I only removed 5 items under languages and onme of those is not even a language so 4 languages removed... Japanese Korean Simplified Chinese Table Driven Text Input Processor Traditional Chinese This saves a ridiculous amount of space in Vista - over 1Gb I think on the installed OS. Most other languages say between 0.2Mb and 0.95Mb (even Arabic does!) so I kept them. The ones that take up the builk like Japanese are hundreds of megabytes, Traditional Chinese for example alone is over 300Mb.
9. 213 views and no replies. In vLite, the main bulk of languages seems to be only 4 languages, all with non English characters, which I guess is why they take up 100Mb of so in XP and yet all the East Europe and American languages take up what, zero bytes? Which languages take up space and which don't?
10. Its a silly title I know, sorry. What I mean is, I have noticed it seems some languages when removed do not take any size off the ISO at all. I guess thats because all the languages that use English characters are shared somehow? You remove Chinese/Korean type languages and it takes a lot of Mb's off your ISO, but take away say, all the Central Europe languages (its 15 or 20+ languages) it takes zero bytes off the ISO. So my question is simple - there will be a certain selection of language removal where you're only selecting languages that are actually taking up space. I have no clue what that exact selection might be. All I know is Chinese and Asian types take up 99% of it. Nuhi, do you know at all the exact selection of languages where it keeps as many as is possible but shaves off all the ones taking up space? Wish I knew exactly which languages you can keep in order to just shave off the excess stuff. Nuhi, you could code that into the app if you know the selection, like a button it just selects the languages for you or even just whats in the... ;# Languages # ...section of "Last Session.ini" Nuhi, only you would know this, please divulge the secret! You truly are a genius at this stuff.
11. Bueller... Bueller... actually this wasn't a tweak, its a bug in Service Pack 3 RC2 LOL Its got bugs!
12. I used a registry tweak and I am not sure which one but now the Windows desktop is dark blue, its not set to bliss when Windows installs, does anyone know any registry tweak to get bliss.jpg back as default? I made a registry backup before the tweak so I can get bliss.jpg back on again that way, or lol just change it by doing it manually but I mean, Windows is installing that way from a CD, some tweak has caused it.
13. I chose the "Classic Start Menu" in Vista and customized it to show small icons etc. There are several problems: 1 - "Help and Support" is shown on the Start Menu and there is no option to remove it in the Taskbar properties! 2 - "Search" is shown on the Start Menu and there is no option to remove it in the Taskbar properties! 3 - "Default Programs" is shown on the top of the Start Menu! See there where I have underlined the "H" in "Help and support" and underlined the "c" in "Search" ? This means if this is in the registry they will be like this: &Help and Support Sear&ch But those two terms do not exist anywhere in the registry! Also I have "Default Programs" on the top of the start menu with no option to remove it in the GUI. How do you solve this considering that there is no option in the GUI to get rid of these items on the Classic Start Menu? This problem only affects the Classic Start Menu. Also, I now have three items on the desktop: "Administrator" (the logged in user) "Network" "Control Panel" I do not want those three icons on the desktop but after choosing Classic Start Menu they are just there with again no option in the GUI to remove them. Windows XP wasn't dis-functional like this, you could take off "Help" and "Search" and the desktop icons, if you wanted to. Anyone know the registry tweaks to sort the start menu and desktop out so these things are not shown?
14. Since I was going through the usual routine of searching for KB915597 on Windows Update and not being able to find it, heres the link to the exe file for today, January 8th 2008. The definition version is v1.24.5193.0 Don't forget, this only applies to Windows Vista. http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/defu/2008/01/mpas-fe_ab13ad4fa2f525832653cd4ca6820222d1bf4ca5.exe You can just run the installation with: START /WAIT mpas-fe_ab13ad4fa2f525832653cd4ca6820222d1bf4ca5.exe (It does not need any switches, just running it installs it)
15.
Nope, by creating the setup.iss-file the serial is included after finishing install. For that i not need to add any reg-file or something. The serial and owner are included in the setup.iss
... [{21DBBDD6-93A5-4326-9A04-C9A5C9148502}-SdRegisterUserEx-0] szName=Ein Anwender szCompany=privat szSerial=PM805EI1-xxxxxx Result=1 ...
so long
Six of one and half a dozen of the other if you had to create the extra file "setup.iss" to put the serial in.
16. Aha, because even though you exit the firewall the driver is still running, hmmmm. OK thanks, I knew it must have been something to do with Comodo v3.
17. Well you probably don't have to "give the serial" on the command line, forget that... just find the serial in the registry and as an addition to the bat file...
REGEDIT /S myserial.reg
Just put your registry code for the serial in a .REG file. Or if its contained in a .INI or .KEY file or whatever, xcopy that file to the directory it should be in after the silent install.
18. Ya what Arie said. This is true but you must be already using a Windows XP source that has had WMP11 integrated into it in the past? I can confirm without doubt that nLite does not throw up those errors if you remove WMP9 and WMP6.4 on a normal (just SP2 or with all hotfixes) install source.
19. Thanks this is good info. But in XP for it to even display surely theres some sort of reg value there? If you put oemlogo.bmp in system32 in XP it shows in the "My Computer" properties. If you put oemlogo.bmp in system32 in Vista it shows in the "Computer" properties. I reckon XP must also have a reg setting for that neo.
20. Call me ignorant but I can't read through all this thread... I know DT is a pain with SPTD and all so... 1 - Does this addon install SPTD at the 12 minute stage and DT at first logon? 2 - What about the "adware" thats included in the normal DT? Is that all included?
21. LOL! Both good answers so I won't try to trump you guys. If Hide IP Platinum seems slow try "Java Anonymous Proxy" (search Google for JAP, its free) but that is also slow as hell. Easiest thing is just don't hide your IP address in the first place
22. Nice, you have a blisteringly fast setup looking at that score but dude... did you really have to open two topics? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=110083&hl= Answer this: 1 - What Graphics card(s) have you got in your system? 2 - What CPU are you using? (lemme guess, Quad Core Intel?) 3 - What RAM have you got? 4 - What OS did you run these benchmarks on? (I guess Vista looking at the screenies) You do realize you would get approximately a 10% to 20% higher score if you ran Windows XP instead of Vista?
23. Back to the drawing board I mounted my image, added those three folders from winsxs and re-installed in VMware. Now the WU doesn't hang but it gives that same error again. Shows over. Nothing to see here. Move right along. Pah! I am still gonna remove it.
