  1. Thanks for the reply fizban2, just emailed to canon support and they claim win2k3 driver is not supported. Maybe its my lack of understanding how xp and win2k3 works. I always thought they are similiar to the point that if something can be done in XP, I must able to do in win2k3.
  2. Hi, i'm trying to download pictures from my canon powershot s500 to the win2k3 but I don't know how. Under xp, all I do is plug the usb port to my computer, and it'll recongized my camera and provide me interface to download pictures. Since win2k3 doesn't do what xp does, I assume it has to do with some sort of security setting, I think I need to turn on something, but I don't know what to turn on in order download pictures. Thanks for ur help.
  3. thanks for the tip aspenjim, i think u are right about the Domain controller issue. that box is meant to be a second domain controller and i didn't do anything to it yet since i installed from scartch. and yea, it is a SBS. i think i'll do it tonight and see how it will turn out. thanks
  4. hi, 1 of the server kept shutting down on its own (i hope its on its own). I'm trying to figure out why it got shut down.... could be 1: someone hacked through remote access and mischief shut down the machine. or 2: some virus trigger the shut down process? i like to check a: a list of remote access (including IP address) b: what the reason was when machine got shut down (including lost of power) thanks for help
  5. Hi, I used to have a NT4 run as domain controler. Recently I got a new box and put win2K3 on it as a new domain controller. All the client machines (running winxp) were force to create a new user account (instead of keeping old NT user setting) when joining to the new domain. Because the client machine treat the user as brand new user, all the setting is gone (included outlook mail box). so far, i used "File Setting and Transfer Wizard" from System Tool to backup user setting and load it to win2k3 account (from the same client computer) and I used outlook backup to load all emails to the new acct. My question is: What's the more professional (better) way to handle such process??? Even though I'm lack of knowledge in such field, but I can't help but to think M$ must have tools to allow user to upgrade to 2k3 from NT at no sweat??? Please share your expertise. Thank you.
  6. Hi, I'm very new to this, and I don't know what exactly caused this. One of the older workstation (p3 900 mhz 128mb ram) been complaining about "Window - Virtual Memory Minmum Too Low". Applications using at the time included: -firefox (3-4 tabs opened) -outlook -msn messager -2 access DB application -MS word The same type of applications have been using in a daily basis, and the machine never complained before. So I thought maybe just running low on RAM. I stick another 128, and now with 256....the machine still complains about Virtual Memory. I don't know what else could have cause the problem, other then sticking RAMs in there, I don't know what else to do. p.s: ever since I put extra 128 in that box, even the virtual memory bubble pops up, the machine still runs very smooth and quick. I think it does recongized 256 RAM.
  7. USB Controllers Vendor: Intel Corp. Description: 82371AB PIIX4 USB Hi, was playing 2k3 on my old p3 box just for fun. Turns out there's alot of hardware weren't able to detect/support during installation. I was able to install most of 'em using some xp-compatible drivers. This usb device is the only hardware left. It is off the 440BX/ZX - 82443BX/ZX motherboard. Please show me if you have link to this driver. TIA
  8. Hi, I want to able to view my website from other computers at my local network. But I don't know how... Running a very simple network: 1) linksys router (act as firewall between outside internet and local network) 2) 1 win server 2k3 (act as domain control, i can view website on this machine, but not other machines) 3) 1 nt server sp4 (it was a domain control, now just sitting around waste space....) 4) few xp boxes (i'm using 1 of the xp box and i made some website on my own computer) what i have atm: i'm able to view website that's locate at win2k3 (u can't view from outside the router). i'm able to view my own site that is hosting at my localhost what i wanted: i want to be able to view my own site from someone else's machine within the network. TIA p.s: dunno if it matters, but its asp.net site so I do have virtual directory setup
  9. chilifrei64, thank you for ur explaination. Now that I have a clear idea what diff between among all those win2003. When I first got my visual studio 2003 enterprise edition, i thought all the extra packages it came with (win server 2003, exchange server 2003, safe source, win server 2000 sp4, commerce server) were only half working softwares (i can't help to think this way...after all i always assoicate M$ with $ heheh). For a short moment, i thought i had to go get myself a "real" win server 2003 off the shelf in order to have anything functional, now that I know they are basically same thing, and i'm very relief. once again, thank you for all your time
  10. fizban2, u said 2003 normally only got 1 cd. I looked at my 2003 SBS at work, there's like 4 DVDs there. Since 1 dvd contain 4.5g of info... are you suggesting those extra 3.8g data is extra options that I won't have? since I'm using 2003 enterprise edition, am I safe to assume it suppose to contains more option/features then the SBS edition? Again, could it be 1 cd because my enterprise edition is off my Visual Studio.NET enterprise edition (so M$ took off most of the option/functions) and not the "2003 server Enterprise Edition" someone would buy it off the shelf? thank you for your time
  11. yea i meant to say active directory, thanks for correcting my M$ jargon. so...how can I add a user? thanks
  12. Hi, just installed 2003 enterprise edition that comes with my Visual Studio.Net 2003 enterprise edition package. Since there's only 1 disc for the 2003, I'm not surprise its gotta missing a lot of features. However, I'm shock that there's no Virtual Directory setup avaible, and I don't want to log-in as administrator all the time. 1) Is there's anyway I can add a new user without virtual directory? 2) Does anyone have a list I can compare and see what are the stuff that I'm missing by using 2003 off VS.Net2003 enterprise edition TIA
  13. hi, i downloaded a sample (vb) code and try to run on my local machine, after fixed some virtual directory setting, now i get the follow error when try to run the page: Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'barcode.WebForm1'. Line 1: <%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" Codebehind="WebForm1.aspx.vb" Inherits="barcode.WebForm1"%> so obvious it has to do with how the Inherit setting, but i downloaded this code, so I guess I can safely assume it suppose to work? maybe i forgot some other setting? TIA
  14. thanks dman, with a little modification, ur code works very well. case close. p.s: i perfer not to get into detail, but when then people above you make certain decision (regardness good db practice or not) its kindda hard to go against it heheheh
  15. Hi dman, Thank you for ur reply. I understand mixing ssn+bday as for primary key field is bad practice. In fact i do have auto signed primary key field in each row. However, I'm unable to go with your suggestion (using dumb key field) due to the polices and guildlines which i have to follow. Would you mind show me how you would done those task in T-sql, or would you please show me where can I find some on-line books/ references regard to how to program sql server (I think knowing how to program dbms is a good skill to obtain)? Thank you
  16. Howdy, i hope i came to the right forum since I don't know where to seek help I made a table within sql server, there's a field call "linkID", and basically what i want it to do is automatically filled with some kind of value everytime when that row is inserted. for example, whenever a row is inserted, i want to take the birthdate field from the same table- e.g. 01/01/2001 mix with last 4 digit from ssn field at the same table - e.g. 1234. and concatenates them together into 1 string -e.g: 010120011234 i dunno much about sql server, but after done some reading, i think they call that "trigger". But i don't know what language and how is used to program dbms (part of the major problem i don't know how to solve is to deal with leading zero from the date field). I know I can accomplish the smiliar task from the software programming level (e.g. if writing program in java, concatenate the string first, and insert that row alone with sql statment), but the problem with that is, i have to write that code everytime when i create a application that is talking to the same table. So it'll be nice if I can handle that at a dbms level. thank you for your time
  17. Hi coconut, thanks for the reply. No client machine still have access to the internet, just lose access to the 2003 server. my network setup is (internet) - (firewall/router) -(internal network, xp client and server sbs) meaning even if the server is down, all my machine still have access to the internet thank you
  18. Greeting, this is the first 2003 I've ever played with, so please be patience with this newbie problem: local client machines (winxp pro) and server (2003 sbs) on the same network, all client machines have mapped a drive (lets call S: drive) to one of the 2003 folder so staffs can share files among computers. client machines lose connection to server after certain amount of idle time (length of time is inconsistence, some can go on days, some overnight) when lost connection, client machine needs to reboot in order to get connection back. addtional information: -no red line/red cross at S drive icon -when click on S drive, it ask me to login, but yet it doesn't recongize administrator account and password -click window explorer unable to establish connection back to the server -reset server timeout to never, problem still there -changed net server config to -1 on client machines, problem still there -edit lmhost.sam at client machine, problem still there -not all machine lose connection at the same time. -(most important piece of info) my machine is the -only- machine that can talk to sever2003 when every machines lost connection because of idling. and my machine's (the only machine) domain is connect to NT4, and I just mapped a drive to 2003 folder while everyone else is on the 2003 domain. I've search all over google, and I think I did all i could, I don't know where else to go from here thank you
