  1. Nastradamus, Very Nice! Amazing discovery...! Thanks! Only one question: Does it also pick up the installed codecs? Or do you still install those via your install batches (into the System32 folder, plus registry tweaks)? If it also installs the codecs in its' msi package, that's just too perfect for words...! (I'm happy with this even if that's not the case; quite surprised at this find, actually!) EDIT: I believe your Windows Media Hotfix KB822964 has been superseeded by a more recent one. Not in the list of Hotfixes...
  2. @raskren, Thanks for Numlock tip...! Just a question: Is that period at the beginning of "DEFAULT" a typho? EDIT: Ooops! Looked in Registry, and period belongs there, alright...! Thanks, shows how little I know my Registry settings...
  3. I read somewhere here that for "Numlock On" I needed this entry: However, this does not work...! Very minor annoyance, I know, but does anyone know why it doesn't work? :/
  4. Quote AaronXP: Well, but if they ADDED 830846, shouldn't it be BIGGER in size, not SMALLER? Should I replace my old version with the new one? I just did an install last Monday, and no critical updates came up when I ran Windows Update, even though I had the old Q824141...
  5. Thanks for help, dtek! Can't try your suggestions until I see my friend in a couple of weeks, but maybe I can tell you how it goes eventually. lord Voldmort: It is an NTFS partition with Windows XP Pro SP1.
  6. GreenMachine: Thanks. That link does it for me...! Veeery useful. And I for one appreciate your great work in regards to repackaging installation files with IExpress...!
  7. Flyakite: Well, then an error message comes up. This is a new problem I encountered installing PaintShop Pro 8 for a friend (not part of a clean install, I was only installing PSP); I will have to find out exactly what the error message is next time I talk to my friend having this problem. I may have screwed up: I ran the installation from one user, and when it rebooted, I logged into another user (his brother) by mistake. I could then hear the hard drive activity as it completed the changes from the installation. It seems this corrupted the installation, and uninstalling and reinstalling at this point does not seen to solve this problem... It works fine for the second user, the one that got the files updated, but not for the user I actually ran the installation on to begin with...!
  8. GreenMachine, I find your IExpress Guide very helpful, but really haven't quite got the hang of it for other programs that differ a lot from your examples. In particular, I am especially interested in knowing what files you would have to include in an InstallShield program, that when extracted gives you 30 files, among which you have: 1. The "setup.iss" file created thanks to the -r switch. 2. Three ".cab files" (data1.cab, data2.cab, data3.cab). 3. A "setup.exe" file. 4. An "ikernel.ex_" file. 5. "setup.ini", "setup.inx" files. 6. Various .ico and .bmp files. So which files would have to be added to the "Packaged Files" list in IExpress? (I think I am referring to the 6th IExpress Screen you show on your example IExpress guides). Note: Perhaps you could pin how different program silent intalls, or opk executables, are created using IExpress? I bet this would be a very popular thread...!
  9. LOL, flyakite! That's also EXACTLY what I was thinking...!
  10. Good pointers, flyakite...! Which version of CDimage are you using? 2.47?
  11. Thanks, Oh_Kay, and flyakite, for your help... Figured out my problem! I was using Virtual PC Version 5.1 I downloaded 5.2 Trial Version from Microsoft, all seems great now! However, I have not tested with images over 2 GIG, Oh_Kay, so I can't voice an opinion on that subject YET...! But I am sure eventually I will be finding out what kind of challenges a 3 GIG+ DVD install disk holds in store for me...!
  12. flyakite quote: I am trying out your advice, but regarding CDimage: Any special Settings? Internal Image, I suppose. Long filenames, allow large file creation. A lot of switches I didn't use... Edit: To be precise, these are the switches I used: /-h /-n /d /-m Should I have also used: /-c /-b "El Torito" boot sector file :/
  13. I installed PainShop Pro 8 on my user account, but other users on my computer cannot access the program. I placed Shortcuts on their Desktops, with Links to PainShop Pro (exact settings as the Shortcut on my user account Desktop, which works), but no dice. I also tried installing PSP 8 on other user accounts, but that won't work either. Anyone know how to allow everyone to use this program? (On installation, you do not get an option to choose who has access to it). Thanks for any help...! :/ Edit: Forgot to mention all users on my computer do have full administrator privileges...
  14. Well, I thought I would run a test of my newly created "DVD XP Pro/Office XP + Photoshop 7.01" ISO, but when I ran Virtual PC it would not take the ISO, which was almost 1.2 Gig. It said it was not a CD image because it was either under 2 MB or not divisible by 2. I can't believe they did not design Virtual PC for DVD installs as well...! Aaaargh...!
  15. Brian Quote: Well, in my case at least, it seems it makes no difference whether I cab it or not. And yes, svcpack.in_ gets deleted automatically, apparently when you apply the Slipstreamed Rollup 1, following AaronXP's guide. Thanks for the answers to my DVD ISO question, rys, rstryker and Geckotek.
  16. AaronXP quote: No biggie, MSN Messenger is not a big priority. In fact, I decided not to include it at all in my installation CD. On the other hand, I am really glad that ".Net Framework 1.1", "DirectX 9.0b", and "Windows Media Player 9 + Movie Maker 2" do install from SVCPACK.INF...! I am pretty set. Only room for improvement, would be to figure out how to do a DVD install disk. I really must be rather lousy at doing searches, because I am having trouble finding good links to posts regarding what should be done differently regarding a DVD install disk...! The ISO file is different on a DVD installation disk, I presume. Any good links on tips regarding its creation?
  17. Thanks, GreenMachine! Your IExpress Guide was great, all went perfectly, just as described... Edit: AAaaargh! I ran my install, testing on Virtual PC, and "MSN Messenger 6" came up with the following error: On the other hand, ".Net Framework" installed perfectly from svcpack.inf Why didn't MSN Messenger 6 install right? (It was created using IExpress, as GreenMachine's Guide instructs.) :/
  18. AaronXP, Ok, thanks for all your answers...! By the way, the reason Windows Update does not bring up Hotfix 816093 as missing, even though I did not install it, is that it is equivalent to the MSJavx86_3810update.exe file as posted on your Unattended XP CD Install Guide...! *Therefore, I renamed my 3809 Build and my 3810 Build MS Java files to "JVM3809.exe" and "JVM3810.exe", and now install them both from my svcpack.inf file, which now looks like this: *NOTE: My svcpack.inf is designed for a Slipstreamed SP1a setup...! I'll now get to work on that IExpress.exe, and lie low for a while...! Thanks again, AaronXP...!
  19. AaronXP, Given this quote from GreenMachine: I am still concerned about your svcpack.inf... Did you fix those errors GreenMachine talks about? Finally, if your DOTNET1_1.EXE and MSNM6.exe files are trouble free, is there any chance at all you might post them for us to download? (Going for broke on that one!)
  20. Thanks, AaronXP! Very useful to see your updated svcpack.inf file. Almost identical to mine, except for my outdated 819639, and that I'm missing 816093, .Net Framework and MSN Messenger 6. However, I need to ask two questions regarding the differences: 1. I do not install 816093 at all, yet when I run Windows Update, it does not show I need it (and I do install MSJavaVM). 2. I see you install .Net Framework and MSN Messenger 6 from your svc.pack.inf file... Are these OPK versions? Or just the regular versions we previously installed via .msi installation files? If OPK, where can I get them? Thanks in advance!
  21. AaronXP, You mention WMP9MM2.exe can be installed from svcpack.inf... What would be the advantage of installing it from there? As opposed to the main command batch file? Edit: Would it be I could then install Q819639 also in svcpack.inf?
  22. Nice one, Numinous! Is there also a way to make the fonts appear in bold, underlined, or italic?
  23. DaveXP, Thanks for post. Just thought I would let you know you accidentally posted the same tweak twice, in your last section. This: Is the same as this:
  24. Thanks, XtremeMaC...! Very good link you gave me, answered all my questions... This should take care of an annoying File Protection Window I get, even after properly applying the patched UXTHEME.DLL
