  1. I hear that it might be something like: "SP2 guards system files more rigorously. MS calls it 'Data Execution Prevention'. That could account for your problem. You can create an exception on a file by file basis, but you can't turn it off. XP and XP-SP1 don't have the DEP security feature." ...but a solution, how to disable the protection for the file is still need. Anyone???
  2. I firmly believe that anything can be tweaked At least as long, as it contain scripts that open windows - these could be altered with resource hacker rather easy: ...as you can see, there is the only one major window into the user32.dll file, but it certainly is tweakable However it is not the file - this is not the requester I want tweak. Any other dll's, suspected that might open the directory pick-up requester, please? Or any way to determine witch dll's are called and when, so one can track the suxxka down? On Amiga, using SnoopDOS one can see ALL the calls from application to operational system, especially the library openings and functions calling. Nothing like this is on winblows, many years after? ****, someone must know witch file I has to edit...
  3. Yes, but this is only the extended stuff - eg. it did not allow me to modify the already existing, default menu. But thanks for trying
  4. Guys, you all know the small (very small!) default size of winblows file (load, save) requester, right? Okay, maybe I refresh your memory there: Now, when I resize it, the IE window somehow remember it and unless I close it, it stays resized That's good. However, anyone know, witch registrer and how bend, so it will be bigger each time I or application open it - forever...? I looking for register tweak to tweak the size (and perhaps position - more into middle I would like it much more) of this requester. Anyone know? ...I get info that I should modify the dialongs into the comdlg32.dll file, so... If I back up the comdlg32.dll file, nothing bad could happen to me (except maybe a temporary inability to use open dialog requester  ) So I get the Resource hacker: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/resourcehacker.html And start tweaking. Screenshot of my modification of the load/save request: But NOW...! Now - I suceed by enlarging the Load/Save dialog window - anyone know WITCH dll I have to edit to get enlarged the directory selection dialog??? This one: I very much like to see it BIGGER Anyone, please???
  5. Since many software installations (FlashGet, OfflineExplorer among some) modify the IE menu, I would like to know how can I, as user As you can see, there are in the context menu over picture some options, and I would like to REMOVE the send the pic by email (highlighted) and set the picture as wallpaper and the one bellow it It is possible, and anyone know how to do it? PS: Im not affraid of any system file modifications using anything - probably ResHacker
  6. BFG tech does it for me. Once upon a time - okay, in was back in summer 2005, I bet around 20. June, I bought trought friend in USA BFG 6800OC card. I was convinced by the lifetime warranty and great customer services reviews, as well, as perormance. I was planing to watercool the suxxka, so I did not care about the two screamers installed on the card. Anyway, when I plug it in on testing machine on my dest, the picture look like this: <!--ImageUrlBegin--><!--ImageUrlEBegin--><img width="300" class="attach" src="http://ax2.old-cans.com/trashed_screen.jpg" border='0' alt="User posted image" /><!--ImageUrlEnd--><!--ImageUrlEEnd--> Obviously, wrong memory chip. 600W Enermax PSU sure give enought juice, so... Tried few other machines as well... So I write BFG in hope they have a European collect address for RMA. Included pictures and asked how long the replacement took. They want few infos, give me a ticket and no address info come. Ever. I mailed second time, same stuff. Third - I got a new reply, saying this: So I waiting still up to today. The card already lost it's value completely and I bougt PNY 6800GT anyway... So, maybe I should remind them again? Pics of the card (look, how nice thing this is!) is there, in case you want to check taht it is not damaged in any way at all: http://trodas.wz.cz/index.php?act=ST&f=8&t=219
  7. Whoa! When I tried to copy the io.dll into windows/system32 it won't go well (eg. I getting the errors), but hey, now it works! Thanks a hell lot of for this simple yet very powerfully hint!!! (me feel stupid now ) Okay, not for long. I log in, put the io.dll into windows dir, run tweaker - surprisingly no error message about "enable to extract IO.SYS (io.sys, not io.dll!!!) for the first time, so I tought everything is green and supergreen and I set my settings as startup settings, reboot and long it again - and again the **** error message was on screen For christ sake with the SP2 crap!
  8. I would very much like to add that user trodas has, of course, administrator privilegies and it is into the administrator group...
  9. Curse the **** SP2, curse them!!! First - there you can download nForce2 tweaker, a usefull (highly) tool for professional (do NOT tweak if you don't know what you are doing!!!) overclockers: http://forum.abit-usa.com/attachment.php?postid=379291 It does run on any chipset, just don't try the button Set, please. As you can see, it is a zip archive and containing the IO.DLL file. Nothing wrong with it, just copy it to the system32 directory and it will run - except you are running on the damned XP SP2 crap. Win2k SP2/3 and WinXP SP1 run fine, but SP2 complain: Well, Im admin and why in the name of God I can't run normal software, that is beyond my understanding. Can anyone enlighten me, how to make THIS work? I understand that it probably require some tweaking of the security settings, but hey - what to do? I don't like the idea of installing XP SP1 just to make it work, so I hope someone can help me to archive the goal quicker. Thanks for helpfull responses - and if some explaination WHY this is happening will be done - the better. PS. I tried register the dll: regsvr32 \windowns\system32\IO.DLL ...but it does not work/help at all... Help???
  10. Hoooray! I SOLVED IT! Using and defragmenting 250G drive IS possible with Win2k SP2 with installed the atapi.sys file (ERD commanded need, win did not allow to replace this file on the fly, always come up with the old copy...) and the mentioned register thing. Fully 100% working solution. Hoooray for that! No problemo since August 27
  11. Well, I got a 250G drive with 2G FAT32 C "SYS" for system and rest NTFS D "DATA" as for data. After fresh install (nLite failed to produce instalable W2kSP2 ) the winblows did not even want to open the poor big partion I can't do a thing (typing from bro machine) so I replaced the atapi.sys file (it took ERD commander to boot, **** winblows, watching their files so much, **** system32/dllstorage, nothing helps, just ERD commander...) and let's see... Aaaargh, help! Scandisk fu.king up my HDD! ****, bad experiments. Im in fear of losing my data ... Ugh, after machine boot up, I can see (and probably access too) the files on D, hooray to that! I just was affraid to loosing my 3h+ work on the subtitles for the Nixon movie, ****... :-P I immediatelly added the reg patch and so far, so good! I go installing and testing Win2k SP2 with 250G drive and the atapi.sys file from SP3 :-D I quess it was never probably done before, but hey, it looks working and fast! :-)
  12. You tried it out already? Works? Beyond 137G barrier? Writing?
  13. I know, yet thx for refreshing my memory The question was, however, if it is possible to push the 48bit addressing support together with the IDE driver to SP2... I think tha the answer is no, but Im no expert, so I asking experts :-) PS. the registry code is so easy Included as clickable reg file, hehe. Now the question is - if I take the atapi.sys file and put it into SP2 + do the registry change - will it work or not? Anyone tried, or I will be first - or it is not worth try after all, because it will not work and there are more changes elsewhere that in the atapi.sys ?????????????????? http://www.48bitlba.com/tools.htm Looks like even old win can do it, so I think I will try W2k SP2 + the atapi.sys from W2k SP3 + the registry trick and test it...
  14. This is just about how to use above 137G drives on SP2 machine. For various reasons I would like to downgrade to SP2 from SP3. I made complete new fresh install, however the BigDrive Enabler from Maxtor ( http://maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menui...s&downloadID=11 ) did not support SP2. If the link did not work, then go to the software downloads, ATA drivers and drive utility - and the last one is the BigDrive Enabler. Therefore I can't access (write) to area above 137G on my big NTFS partion that eat the rest after 2G FAT32 system partion. Now I know, that the BigDrive Enabler is just a registry chnge thing: " This utility takes the guess work out of editing the Windows registry. The Big Drive Enabler fixes an operating system limitation. This utility is needed anytime a Hard Disk Drive larger than 137 GB is connected to the motherboard's ATA bus, regardless of any system BIOS that supports 48-bit LBA." If this is just about registry editing, then it might work (depends of the ATA M$ driver, tough) on SP2, right? And if it did not work, then a update from the SP3 install - the driver - should be possible to add to Win2k SP2, right? Please advice and solution for the **** problem... thanks! PS. okay, I should mention that I have use the nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset and the Microsoft drivers (no way to use the nVidia ones!) for IDE devices...
  15. Okay, I get your point Yet knowledge can be booring and some more smileys in posts can make then more interesting and more relaxed, not the tense technical stuff, don't you agree? You know - a picture is worth thousads of words B)
  16. Hi, guys and gals I love these nice animated smileys and the design of the forum rules as well, but there is a very small flaw I can use only 4 ( ) of these beautifull smileys per post ...should not be the limit raised, to, say 50 smileys? :-) Smileys are nice, and 4 is too few in case the post is long and descriptive enought, it should bring some fun to the forum as well...
