  1. No, it did not work T13 - ah, that. No, when I have to reinstall, I will instal W2k witch did not have this extremly annoying problem ... And did you tried it and do it works for you? After all a reinstall is need, witch is somewhat clumsy to test... Anyway, maybe then we have to extend that into the other registers trees only? If that help, I'm all for it. I hope we understand each other there - when I open with windows explorer (just normal browse My Computer, D, any dir...) I see the list view as I want. The problem come when any application open the load/save requester. In order to move the default save directory to D: root, I made the root of D: the "My Pictures" directory. Pictures are then saved where I want w/o directory selection, but as side effect each app open requester on D: beginning with the cursed damned thumbnails But I feel like repeating myself, but just to be clear once again - open save dialog default view IS a problem, nothing else. Possible workaround - modification to the IE that let me specify other dir (D: !!!) to defaulty open when saving pictures that the **** My Pictures system dir with all the thumbnails. Witch one is easier for you But I looked on other forums and it looks like ppl would love to turn them off, just like me - have no idea how to make the settings STICK at least...
  2. My version is not corrupt, hopefully, but the forum corrupted it Obviously it a bit corrupted ours as well as mine example... Anyway, let's move on. This part I did not understand at all. What do you mean by that? What exatly one have to do?I never ever heard about any T13 stage or something like that. All what I want to to is completely and definitively get rid of the thumbnails view. They has to be gone forever and ever for me... Great to hear that, completely skipping then. I always remember/save the name and use one icon for all forums, only change (usualy) the background transparency color before renering my sig from AI to gif in Photoshop so the antialiasing to the transparent go to the color the forum backgroud it, to make it looking nice.
  3. Sorry, I did not understand it by one bit. First at all, of course the view is set to windows default of the directories, you meant that, did not you? Right? Second, I installed the req tweak (not sure where the backslash come in and why, but I removed it, of course): REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams] "Settings"=hex:09,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,e0,a5,1f,0e,73,35,cf,11,ae,69,08,00,2b,2e,12,62,04,00,00,00, 04,00,00,00,43,00,00,00 Even rebooted and no change at all? And the shimgvw.dll I did not understand completely. I use: regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll to disable the cursed XP image viwer - I see no reason why puting the file back on, even I did not deleted it yet. Please, please, please explain HOW to get this to work!
  4. Zxian - okay then bonestonne - well, none of what you say looking like a solution. I certainly won't upgrade or change anything, that if for start. Second, I managed and posted how, to get all the .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .rm, .ram, .wmv files to play well w/o asking just on click in my BSplayer. LAST thing I want to is WMP 10. ALL I want to is the damned requester after clicking on .mov file, asking me, what to do back. How I do THIS? Registers, somewhere?
  5. Always after a fresh win install (after installing codecs and Win Media player 9 for WMV quick seeking) I end up in situation that instead of getting the requester "Open, Save, Cancel... Do not ask again" in IE after clicking on direct movie link in IE6, I got just a error, like the link is not valid. Usualy more clicking lead to complete wait for - well, nothing. I fing out that just starting the Win Media Player 9 fix all that and IE finally ask me about the WMV file, the mpeg and mpg files as well. It does asked about rm/ram files corectly before, just these aren't much used, so... No gain. But the real trouble now is the mov QT files. They are rare, yet I want them to play in BSplayer too, and not into some sort of build-in IE plugin. I deleted the plugin, but IE6 still not asking and play into new IE window instead of downloading the file to TMP dir and play from there using BSplayer - what now, guys? (using the QT Alternative v1.70)
  6. I would like to share something about WinXP SP1.0a optimizing. The goal is folding machine - computer that shall start on mains power on, shut on power off button, fold (that require acess to net) and share my files on it's hdd for eMule and in my home 12 computers network. That it is, nothing else. Machine is setup, so, Plug and Pray as well, as net services can be disabled - because there is no need to edit them anymore, etc. I would welcome suggestions what MORE to optimize, tough. Now I can manage that on one of the machines (PC chips M810L mobo): Task Manager 41MB ram used, and that is when looking at the machine by terminal, hehe. Cool, nope? But can be the rdclip, for example, removed? Or any other services there: Services Image And now the main question - what could be also disabled THERE - using the Sysinternals Autoruns utility: Autoruns items Post edited - Please link to large images in future. --Zxian
  7. After reading what stuff stoped working, I'm determined to never use IE7.
  8. That would be JUST AMAZING Can't wait for that. Sadly, the: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "ClassicViewState"=dword:00000001 Don't not worked... Yet I tried the XFiles Dialog ( http://www.xdesksoftware.com/xfilesdialog.html ) and tought it does work, I did not like another program running, so, anything that help me there would be great. Remember, it should either change the IE default images save directory (from My Pictures to defined one) OR get rid of the default Thumbnails view of the My Pictures directory Thx!
  9. This pose a huge problem, because if I set the D: as My Pictures, then all applications default view of D: dir and any subfolders withing it (!!!) in useless and terribly flustrating Thumbnail view, witch no-one seems to know how to change! (that way the change stick... of course) So, I think it is necessary to - either modify the comdlg32.dll file to disable the Thumbnail view activation OR modify the IE, forcing it to open other folder for saving pictures that the My Pictures directory. There is simply no other way (I fear) that get open/save dialog for pictures from IE w/o thumbnails and to open it exactly in directory, where I want it to open. Like I say - it could be the default "My Pictures" as long, as we figure out how to modify the comdlg32.dll file. Or we could figure out how to edit the IE default pictures saving directory to other one that "My Pictures" - eg. like the wanted D:\\ one...
  10. Oh, I figure the mpg/mpeg problem with annoing requesters out. Dunno why, but for these two types of files one have to go into the filetypes menu, modify the default actions for them and disable manualy these checkmarks "ask about opening" each time and problem is gone. Dunno why that won't work from IE as for other formats, but what the hell - it does work now, satisfacted
  11. Okay, let's speak the pictures, shall we? On safe/open requester I got always this (the size is already tweaked): While I desperately want to see by default THIS: Now, since there is not likely to be any option to alter that behaviour (or it is?), maybe we shall modify the comdlg32.dll file to get the wanted result? Anyone is getting any ideas?
  12. Folding is calculationg how proteins in our bodies are joining in process called "fold" (hence - folding) and when we understand it better, we can fight various diseases I think that the most easy way to understand it painlessly is this flash: http://www.teamshort-media.com/videos/foldflash2.html Enjoy!
  13. pppx00 - Because I testing the USB problem of Grouper board. As soon as something move, I'm back to W2k like "snap" Exuse me, but name ONE USER that presented ONE solution to get me rif od the default thumbnails view. You soon find out that NONE come with ANY solution to this so far.
  14. albator - Even when you save image from IE to the My Pictures folder? Then show me the tweak, I would love to use it, please! And no, I'm not going to reinstall win just for one promised tweak, it has and it can be made now, I'm sure. Show the solution, please! What solutions are to the Thumbnails problem are mentioned there? I know only one that works. Win2k... Because of this: And there IS compatibility problems. First there is a page you can't open (your are not part of my ISP, I'm affraid) there: http://support.medialine.cz/svg2 But I can sum it for ya. This page use Adobe SVG plugin to draw graphs of your/others/main nework load. You can choose start/end dates and resolutions. Even I somewhat manage the FF accept the SVG plugin ( http://sdx.archivesdefrance.culture.gouv.f.../svgViewer.html - it says that is need the "NPSVG6.dll" and "NPSVG6.zip", but in reality these files for latest 3.03 version of Adobe SVG are named NPSVG3.dll and NPSVG3.zip) and it does draw the default settings well, as soon as I choose other time/date/resolution the FF immediatelly crash... Later I remember that this shop music preview was not working: http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProduct...&sku=512592 ...but looks like this get fixed too, after about a year or so, when FF users are just out of luck, so there IS compatibility problem(s) and even the lame M$ has to be blamed for, there is nothing you can do about it. Some stuff is IE only. Oh, good example, my stepbro little project (online chat) QuickChat did not work either in FF: http://ax2.old-cans.com/quickchat
  15. Zxian - XP SP2 suxx even more, this is not a solution but creating more problems and you know that. Yes, same machine, same setting, same installed drivers - same HDD, same everything. XP clearly reacted way worser. Pulling the plug on computer is beyond everything... I clearly did NOT want to experience that again, so I will not care about XP and USB anymore. Yet again I think the bios o the board is up to blame... Jeremy - any feedback on the Thumbnails? It is getting annoing a bit, pls help
  16. I would bet that if you have enabled the "ask before deletion" then the confirmation pop up. But I assume that you want that even if user have disabled the confirmation when moving files to the trashcan, right?
  17. So, anyone know a solution? Like unregister some dll files, or disable something at startup? Guys? I was told that I'm just picky and misinformed, but seems like there are more of us
  18. Jeremy - yea, I'm VERY picky and want things works exactly my way and no other way around It is requirment "not to be picky" necessary for using the cursed XP - at least using it happily, not unwillingly like me now?! Come on then! I can't wait for the solutions you post! And there is no limits, I already modified DLL's, even the shell32 dll, so, shoot! Not true, it never work for me. Next time (w/o even closing the very samy IE window!) they are back again. They are like curse, a disease or something... Now that is worth a shot! I remember, the dam.n annoing image viewer M$ bloated into XP crap could be disabled by this: So, I looked and there is : jgaw400.dll - can't be unregistred Other close files, yet none is matching your "jgaw" desctiption - only using the "jg" at start are: jgdw400.dll jgmd400.dll jgpl400.dll jgsd400.dll jgsh400.dll So, witch one to kill and how does this kill change the default behaviour that force opening the thumbnail view of the "My Pictures" directory AND all it's subdirs? (I wanted and managed the My Pictures to be root of my D: drive, so imagine what happen when...) BTW, in few occasions the Thumbnail view even crashed on me (and I'm not alone, look: http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/33620 ), silently closing the application with all my work/text lost. That is "just great" and just another reasons why I f*cking hate this XP crap! :realmad: Please help! bledd - don't just "lol", come on with some solutions! If you can... PsycoUnc - many pages does not work with FireFox, so I can't use it. Not to mention I feel much more comfortable in IE. So please limit YOUR solutions to solutions and NOT to creating another problems using another browser. There IS things where I use FF and Opera instead of insecure IE, but trusted pages run best in IE. Sometimes the crash come sooner that I was able to change the details - I got 3Ghz Opty machine... Win98 is too obsolete, however it seems that W2k SP2 with some add ons like 48bit addressing splistreamed in is perfect. And speaking about hate of the bloated XP sh*t - yep, I feel the same. But I need XP now to test out the reader in my Grouper mobo - just to realize that unlike W2k SP2, my XP SP1.0a completely FROZE my computer when I insert my Flash Voyager USB 4G stick into my front USB port... It freeze my machine so bad, that not ever reset help. It HAVE to pull the cord, actually... And some bios settings are lost, eh, last time I checked XP and USB on Grouper. Side note - Grouper bios must have USB issues. Side note 2nd - W2k did not froze, witch make me hate XP even more (curses, curses and again curses) ...
  19. TAiN - so, I checked and even on the folding machines these services are running in automatic mode all the time. So the problem must be somewhere else. I fear that it was the HDD problem (the Maxtor disk utility says it fixed it?) I had recently. Now I trying XP for testing if I get my reader to work and no, nope. It did not working So thanks, I hope I can report 100% functionality when I get back to W2k later
  20. I must fix a little the reason 17 by myself 17) on WinXP is not possible to get rid of the thumbnails view that is, be dafault, used for the root of pictures directory (that what IE open as default save directory). To make things worser, this setting apply to all the subdirs too! **** thumbnails showing on XP! Its possible only disable the caching of the generated thumbnails by XP (so no bothering thumbnail caching files over whole HDD...), not to change the way the folder always open with these thumbnails... http://ax2.old-cans.com/no_thumbnails.zip So, who can tell me, how to disable the default thumbnails view, guys? It is possible? I'm ready to even edit ANY file, including shell32.ddl
  21. Could be handy trick, thanks. Sadly I need also write on local czech pages, and using even the special czech characters, so... But I will remember that trick
  22. Yes, it running. The question - does it need to run on the other machines too? One one or two it run, on other, folding ones, it not running. ****. What that could be?
  23. Just to be sure, then the M$ solution (witch require the win update that I trying so hard to avoid in any situation) did not work either... This one I mean: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319973/EN-US/ Okay, with friend help (no, no way I allow M$ messing with MY windows) I managed it, so for anyone that want the USB2 update w/o hassles, there it is: http://ax2.old-cans.com/USB2.ZIP However the lame Sapphire bios probably did not allow the USB to work at all
