  1. Thank you... that makes a lot more sense. STill looks hard though, but at least I have a better view of what to do.
  2. I keep reading the tutorial on how to make a Multiboot disk, but have found to be quite lost for a week now. I would like to (with the help of you experts) create a tutorial for noobs and use it as I learn how to do this. This is what I DO know and understand: 1) I will use CDShell to create a boot menu that will let me choose which OS I want to install. I'll have to customize the menu to my kind of installls I have. 2) I know how to extract the installs from my installs CD (at least for Windows XP) 3) In the http://flyakite.msfnhosting.com/ tutorial.. I can see that I need to hex edit the boot loaders for my install as well as the textsetup.sif file. First, my main purpose for this CD is to have different versions of "setupldr.bin" (setupldr1.bin, setupldr2.bin, etc) each with their respective "WINNT.sif" files (winnt1.sif, winnt2.sif, etc). What I don't get is how to use the shell menu commands, how to test it, etc… All the tutorials I've seen are really bad and don't explain things throughly. This makes baby Jesus sad. LOCOBOX
  3. Indeed, login doesn't work with an encrypted password. I had the same trouble when I was starting up with unattended installs.
  4. Multiboot CD - Is this the same posted somewhere in this forums?.. have a link? NATAN: Good Job on that DVD software, is there ANY way to edit the current linux config to NOT ask what I don't want it to ask (to preset the questions and not actually take 5 minutes). 5 minutes is still awesome!... but I don't see why the linux config can't be modify. I'll be installing your software soon, I'm creating a VM for it for testing. Again, nice Job and looking forward to the next release!
  5. So, let me get this straight. With this DVD creator, I can: Set different kind of installs and configure a "Menu" of type of installations? like after I configure it, the menu will say: Option 1 - Nuke partitions, Set name of computer, add to domain Option 2 - configure partition size, name computer and domain Option 3 - Install basic OSXPSP2 (no answer files) I already have a slipstreamed CD with everything I could ever want... Can I use my own slipstream CD with this DVD creator?... can I set my own WINNT.sif?.... Can I set different WINNT.sifs pre-installations (meaning that I would just need to boot from DVD, choose options I want and basically leave! This is interesting, got a link?
  6. I am wondering if there is a way to have different automatted configs (WINNT.sif/answer files) on one intallation for XPSP2. As it is right now, I have to have: - A CD that installs XPSP2, no questions asked. - A CD that asks me for the computer name before it installls everything - A CD that lets me reformat, then takes over and does it all - A CD that has no answer file, no WINNT.sif - A CD that doesn't join a domain Is there a way to have all of this options in ONE cd?... I was thinking different WINNT.SIFs would work, but if you have ANY idea on how to go about being able to choose what installation to do would be AWESOME! (work of genious maybe?) Help!
  7. I was wanting to get a new computer for my me with the following specs: OR... this gamer buddie that I have wants to sell me the above for $1,250 (Which is all I got for a new computer - No monitors.. i have those)... here is what he offers: The second one is an used system from a TOP gamer who bought it when all the technology was just coming around (Basically got the best of the best at that time - He bought it around June2004. The first system the Athlon 64 35+ came July 2004... but it's not the top end of it's class). I need to make a decision soon I hate presure...HELP HARDWARE GURUS! Which one should I choose?
  8. Well, it could very well still be DFS... but we disabled the redirection of the "Desktop" folder to DFS. The profile is now a full roaming profile - it just takes longer to login (about 4 seconds more), but the "30+ pause" problem is virtually gone.
  9. Interesting.. I wasn't aware of a "file system filter driver". I'll try Netmon. UPDATE: We seemed to have gotten the issue figured out. We also implemented redirection of the desktop for our citrix clients. We'll keep testing to see how this could have cause the slowdowns though.
  10. Any windows server gurus here? ...please don't say: "Just switch to server 2003". Our plan is to switch from Citrix on a 2000 domain to 2003 Terminal Services on 2003 Domain (of course). We are not switching just yet though, and we have this huge problem with users trying to access DFS shares - ISSUE: They (Sometimes/most of the time) get slow performance when opening apps, trying to access folders, etc... to the point where there is a 10-36 second delay. Facts: -using roaming profiles, redirecting only the desktop to a DFS share. "\\domain.org\dfs\share\%username%\desktop" -using windows 2000 domain servers (DFS configuration is done by domain servers which are 2000. The actual shares are in 2003 servers). -2 DFS replicas on 2000 domain servers. -using citrix servers (3 of them - they all have same issue accessing files) -experiencing same issues on xp machine connecting to DFS: (\\domain.org\dfs\share), works just fine with UNC: (\\server\share) -using a well configured gig-switch (UNC works just fine, so we're thinking this is not an issue.. though, you never know ) -UNC works and worked just fine (problem started after switching to DFS shares all around) -Creating shortcuts to DFS redirected desktop. -We are also running some aplications' preferences (on citrix) with DFS path. I found this article on the web.. and will soon contact microsoft about this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;873407 Any bright ideas? Any tools that I can use?.. I've used dfsutil, but is there something more indepth? Please help!.. thanks!
  11. Useful site: http://www.microsoft.com/office/orkarchive/2k3updt.htm - Love this icon
  12. UPDATE!!! I ran my script to shutdown with a pause to see any errors and found that the users (Which is Administrator) doesn't have Rights (Somehow) to restart the machine. But it does have Rights to install anything he wants. This is highly annoying. Anyone can help, please?... (am almost finished with my CD!)
  13. The weird thing is that it works everywhere. It just doesn't work while on RunOnceEx for some reason. Reboot option doesn't launch and am stuck with restarting manually (Gosh I sound so lazy!). Actually... it's weird, because it WILL run on RunOnceEx, but only when it's not a new installation. Example... I created a RunOnceEx that copied the shutdown.exe to the system32, and launched shutdown with the options above. Worked just fine (on a pre-configured system). Copied that same code (made a couple of path switches - very minimal), created my .ISO tested it on a Virtual Machine and this doesn't restart. Burnt the ISO to CD thinking maybe it's something with VM (just for kicks).. doesn't work anywhere.. but the code is what you see above. Huh!
  14. Shutdown option is not working for me either... I've used two shutdown methods (2 different applications - the XP version and a version a friend wrote - both DO NOT work). Here's my code: "shutdown.cmd" cmdow @ /HID C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -r -f -t 30 -c "WinXP Autoinstall will restart in 30 seconds..." RD /S /Q %systemdrive%\install RD /S /Q %systemdrive%\Drivers DEL "%AllUsersProfile%\Start Menu\Windows Catalog.lnk" EXIT Here's my RunOnceEx.cmd: cmdow @ /HID @echo off SET KEY=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx REG ADD %KEY% /V TITLE /D "Installing Applications" /f REG ADD %KEY%\001 /VE /D "Installing VNC4" /f REG ADD %KEY%\001 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\vnc4\Install_local.bat" /f REG ADD %KEY%\005 /VE /D "Copy Citrix Icons" /f REG ADD %KEY%\005 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\citrix_icons.cmd" /f REG ADD %KEY%\010 /VE /D "Installing Citrix" /f REG ADD %KEY%\010 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\citrix\ctxsetup.exe" /f REG ADD %KEY%\015 /VE /D "REMDR Program" /f REG ADD %KEY%\015 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\citrixinstallglitch.cmd" /f REG ADD %KEY%\020 /VE /D "Microsoft Media Player 10" /f REG ADD %KEY%\020 /V 2 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\MediaPlayer10\mp10setup.exe /q:A /c:\"setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /DisallowSystemRestore\"" /f REG ADD %KEY%\022 /VE /D "HMTCD Wizard" /f REG ADD %KEY%\022 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\HMTCDWizard_enu.exe /passive /norestart" /f REG ADD %KEY%\025 /VE /D "Install CMDhere" /f REG ADD %KEY%\025 /V 1 /D "\"%systemdrive%\Install\CmdHere Powertoy For Windows XP.msi\" /qb" /f REG ADD %KEY%\028 /VE /D "Install Firefox 1.06" /f REG ADD %KEY%\028 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\firefox-1.0.6-en_US.msi /qb" /f REG ADD %KEY%\030 /VE /D "Install QuickTime 7" /f REG ADD %KEY%\030 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\QuickTimeInstaller.exe /S /v/qn" /f REG ADD %KEY%\040 /VE /D "Install Adobe Reader 7" /f REG ADD %KEY%\040 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe /S /v/qn" /f REG ADD %KEY%\050 /VE /D "Modify Default User Registry" /f REG ADD %KEY%\050 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\modifyhive.cmd" /f REG ADD %KEY%\060 /VE /D "15 Second Shutdown script" /f REG ADD %KEY%\060 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\shutdown.cmd" /f EXIT PLEASE HELP!!!
  15. Like I said, easy fix: ::Loading NTUSER "Default" Hive to Registry REG LOAD HKU\testing "C:\Documents and Settings\Default user\NTUSER.DAT" ::Import Registry - Custum reg file - ::This reg file contains the path to the above command "HKU\testing" REGEDIT /S C:\registry.reg ::Unload NTUSeR "Default" Hive from Registry REG UNLOAD HKU\testing "C:\registry.reg" if doing unattended install is going to actually be ""%systemdrive%\Install\registry.reg"
