  1. Well, maybe a XP repair install isn't the worst thing after all....
  2. Well, thanx to Mr. Flames you know the word You might wanna take a look here, it's quite good explained: Working with Roaming User Profiles Good luck.. or keep asking !
  3. fbcesco, could you be a bit more specific ? Export to what and why ?
  4. I guess you mean administrator on the PC. This is a local account and is not sufficient to add the workstation to the domain. To accomplish this, the user has be a member of the DOMAIN ADMINISTRATOR-group (or the Account Operators-group for that matter). Then it should work.
  5. Insert a Windows XP-cd in your Cd-drive: go to START --> RUN and then type: expand E:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt (E is the letter of the CD drive) If you don't have the CD you can download it HERE. Extract the ZIP file to your windows\system32 directory. That ought to do it ! good luck
  6. Are you positive that the user has "Add workstation to domain"-rights ?
  7. Indeed.. you're rambling... But it's funny though.. don't worry. Cheers mate !
  8. Since you're the administrator...... ENABLE it...
  9. Have a look at the Wallpapers & Icons section.. I'm sure you'll find some usefull links.
  10. Wrong CD ?? ****.. that's odd.. A slipstreaming CD sounds good, but will not make any difference. The official Micorsoft CD should work fine. Try to follow these steps, regarding to your system restore problem. To troubleshoot System Restore issues, try one or more of the following steps: - If you receive an error message that is related to System Restore, always make sure that you first record the error message and follow the instructions that the error message contains to try to resolve the issue. Most System Restore issues generate an error message that contains a description of the issue and suggestions for how to resolve the issue. - Make sure that you have enough disk space on all of the drives on which System Restore is enabled. - Make sure that the System Restore service is running by using one of the following methods: - Check in Control Panel: 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click "Performance and Maintenance". 2. Click Administrative Tools, click Computer Management, and then click Services and Applications. 3. Click Services, and then click System Restore Services. - Open a command prompt window: 1. Click Start, click Run, and then type "CMD" (without the quotation marks). 2. Press the ENTER key, and then type "Net Start" (without the quotation marks) at the command prompt to make sure that the System Restore service is up and running. - Make sure that System Restore is enabled on the drives that you want System Restore enabled on. - Try to run System Restore in Safe mode. - If you suspect that you do not have as many restore points as you should have, make sure that the data store is the size that you want the data store to be. - Check the event logs to investigate System Restore service errors: 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click "Performance and Maintenance". 2. Click Administrative Tools, click Computer Management, double-click Event Viewer, and then click System. 3. Click the Source tab to sort by name, and then look for "sr" or "srservice." Double-click each of these services, and then evaluate the event description for any indication of the cause of the problem.
  11. Firefox, You'r ABSOLUTELY right !! Reading your post, I honestly don't know why i came up with such a s****y answer. Of course... why try the easy way if you can do it the hard way..... Max, firefox's solution is way better ! (like you didn't know)..
  12. Well done Marthax !! Another one who "beat" the system !!
  13. Well, now I AM CURIOUS ! Cause I really go to extremes to delete this crap (if it's the same as Marthax has) but I it still kept coming back..
  14. Thanks Clavicle ! I'll keep that in mind, although I do not have that problem My XP came with the system I bought.. (Fujitsu Siemens.) But thanks anyway mate !
  15. On the Microsoft-site: Can I change or upgrade my hardware components? MPA can tolerate some change in hardware components by allowing a degree of difference between the current hash value and the hash value that was originally activated. Users can change hardware components without having to reactivate the product. If users make substantial changes to their hardware components, even over long periods of time, they may have to reactivate the product. In that case, users may have to contact a Microsoft customer service representative by telephone to reactivate. So I guess the wise thing to do is call Microsoft Customer Service. They'll probably know what to do... good luck !
  16. I have some good experiences with NETWORK TRAFFIC MONITOR. Fairly small & simply but does the job very well, without using a lot if mem. Have a look: majorgeeks

  18. Marthax, I didn't say there's no other option... maybe it's a whole other issue your friend is experiencing. I just wanted to point out that his problem sounds very familiar and if it it is what I think it is, then a re-install might be the best option... So don't go formatting on my account...
  19. Well, I can tell you this: I had the same once. And honestly, I think I spent 10 hours trying to fix it... at one point it became a matter of honour.. it was between me and him !! What I think happens is that there's one "mother-file" which generates and triggers these executables. What file that is, I could not figure out. But my startpage however was changed, so I had something to work with. I searched the registry, did a system restore, tried all kinds of Anti-Spyware tools (at least 5/6 of them), edited the msconfig and lots more. But it did not work ! The only way to beat this BEAST !! was to format my machine and re-install XP. I'm sorry, probably not the answer you are looking for, but sometimes it gets this bad ! Í hope you find a solution, but this "generated executable" which also appears at your friends PC, is not looking good........ take care !
  20. Hi marthax... it's me again . Could you give some specs. / features ? - Does it change the IE-startpage ? - Do you get some icons on your desktop (casino/gambling/medical/women..etc..) - What do you see in taskmanager ? something like "3534.exe or Thjd.exe ?"
  21. Max, You have to have a piece of software that can make a copy of your entire harddrive, as mentioned earlier. You can use Norton Ghost or Acronis. These are fairly easy to use and probably will do the job. This is how it works: You're going to make an image of your PC, this is generally done by just the wizard that these two types will have. You have to set the path to write this image to the PC you have connected. But keep in mind that the other PC has to have at least 20 GB of free space, otherwise the "copy" won't fit. When the HD has been copied and you have a new HD purchased, you have to take the harddrive of the other PC and put in your PC as well. Then you format the new HD, take the bootdisk (you have to make a bootdisk with norton or acronis, so you can load the image!!) and let your PC boot. A DOS-menu will start and you will be able to browse to the image on the other harddrive to load it. This should get the job done. Are you sure you want this ? It's quite a lot of work, even for a skilled person. And don't get me wrong, but I don't think you're very experienced user, are you ? I say this respect, because at least you're willing to tackle the problem !!! But you got a load of work ahead of you !!
  22. Yes yes, I mean the recovery console ! The SFC command scans and replaces any Microsoft Windows file on the computer and replaces any changed file with the correct version. You can try this of course. perhaps the best way is to run: c:\SFC /SCANNOW / (you have to do this at the command prompt) However, while scanning & replacing the system could ask for a Windows XP-cd or a Service Pack-cd. By the way: why is your system restore not working ?
  23. Well, I'm gonna track this topic also ! Gotten quite curious how to handle this sh***y problem ... This can happen to every one of us.. Good luck with the re-install Marthax !
  24. take a look here: connect two computers over the internet GUIDE If you want them to connect directly, you'll need a so-called CROSSOVER cable. You can make them yourself, but maybe it's best to just buy one. good luck ! If you need any help with connecting, just type in google: CONNECTING TWO COMPUTERS CROSSOVER You'll get al lot of feedback ! Believe me, you're not the first one to try..
  25. Allright, Since you told me that your drive is almost full, there will be no space to store your image (=copy) , am i right ? The options you have: 1) attach another PC (through a cross-cable) 2) connect to a network
