  1. Today I uninstalled NAV2004 from a PC that was stalling at boot up to troubleshoot if NAV was the root of the problem. Turns out it was Norton Personal Firewall. However when I reinstalled Nav2004 I did not have to go through the nasty activation procedure meaning that if the correct registry keys were imported via a regtweak before auto installing NAV2004 then it would silently install just as Nav2003 did! Needs someone cleverer than me to work out the keys though! probably hklm\software\symantec would be a good start and possibly the folder c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\symantec would need to copied over. The only doubt I have about this is that Symantecs product activation may be like Microsofts and be hardware dependant meaning it reinstalls fine on the same pc but not another.
  2. You can extract the latest symantec defs file and replace into the virusdef\latest folder to create a much more recent set of definitions than the aug2002 ones used by default. Great for dial up PC's as liveupdates biggest download is not needed!
  3. thanks for the heads up!!....back to the darkened room for a bit longer then!
  4. great help. ta I have written a self extracting rar file that does what that radmin link said and it works great for the server side.
  5. I have stacks and stacks of appz on my pc that I would like to autoinstall. Would importing the HKLM\software registry from my current rig as a whole cause any problems to a new unattended installation? I assume this would copy across all the serial numbers, settings etc I know it is lazy but I have put so many hours into this CD already I want to see daylight soon! Cheers
  6. What would be nice for newbies is an xp iso image that already has created folders in it and example batch commands. I spent a whole day getting to this stage when I started out on the quest for a easy install CD! Instructions on adding a slimmed down i386 directory and appz and hotfixes can then be shown and an unattended disk could be made within an hour by a newbie. I have a british one here; http://members.lycos.co.uk/pmcx999/Unattended.zip Warning......This is a fully automated install for XP which removes all previous data on disk. It is also a British default install. Furthermore it creates a user called "Dood" rather than allowing the administrator by default.
  7. I am trying to create silent installs of; Nero6 Remote Administrator2.1 Adobe Acrobat5 Un Plug and Play (UnPnP) System Mechanic Meaya Pop up blocker Cyberlink Powerdvd. The only problem is the time taken to troubleshoot the installs as you all know takes ages coz you have to do a complete install each time. Can anyone give me any scripts advice please?
  8. I presume that command "Reboot=Suppress" will work for Norton personal firewall on its own as well?
