  2. Thanks for a great program

Is there anyway to force it to launch when i just right click the desktop, so i can use it to launch some of my small apps that have no installer or start menu entries.

    I call this from CMDLINES.TXT at the T12 / T13 stage.

  4. There is another issue to this.

If you are using a cpu with HyperThreading, setup builds a different kernel than the default one.

If you replace it using this method and you have a HyperThreading cpu your computer will not start on the reboot after the guirunonce section has customized the boot process.

Please note that this is only a working theory based on the following.

I have a unattended cd that uses this exact method to replace the kernel and have used it 100's of times. When I built my first PC with a HyperThreading cpu it refused to start after the above method had been done.

After spending a few minutes checking I found the ntoskrnl to be different than the one I had modified. I did a few compares with "blind Compare" to confirm this and then removed the offending command from the boot.ini and it booted up fine.

If anyone can offer any more info on this I would be grateful

  5. This is something i am going to try as i like the idea, But i have one question for you.

    When is the HAL created?

If it is in the stage that creates the two folders then this process is only good for the pc it is created on.

If it is after that then all is well and it can be used for all pc's.

Can anyone give any details on the HAL and when it it created as this is something i don't know much about.

  6. Hi all.

The first working beta is here for you to try, I have tested it quite allot but there may still be some bugs hanging around.

This program is designed to run after the desktop has started and will allow you to install all your favourite programs and registry tweaks via a .INF file or a .CMD file.

It is fully customizable and even detects your install cd and 2nd cd if you have one via semaphore files.

At the moment only the .inf method is implemented but adding the .cmd method will not take that long.

The screen design and size is not yet final and any feedback on that is welcome.

The config.ini file is commented to explain how things work. :)

    You can download it Here

  7. I don't yet know if it will work using a computer with a bios that allows booting from a usb device, but i would think so.

However the first problem i see you having with your floppy drive is the usb drivers, when you start windows from a floppy the setup is not going to be able to read the usb drive as there arent any drivers loaded. maybe they can be added at the f6 part of the install if you have them that is.

let us know as this is one of my next projects, only i want to use a usb pendrive for the media. :)

  8. The config file is evolving all the time, but overall it will remain the same.

    The problem is -

If you want to be able to set the name of your program

If you want and you want to set the command line to install the program

As well as the option to reboot after the program

And which of the 3 defaults it falls into.

Then for each program, you are going to need those 6 options.

Then you must think about submenus, if you want a group heading like "Adobe" to group all those products together then you must name that heading.

But if you just want to group a bunch of addons under photoshop then you just need a submenu option.

I have thought about this and the way i figure it is, anyone who is capable of creating an unnatended setup cd should also have the ability to understand the layout of the config file.

  9. Here is the first beta of a program I am cobbling together.

It's designed to be run after your install has finished and the desktop has started "properly". Its similar to a program written by Nephilim called "xpes" (I got the idea from his program) so credits to him for the idea.

Although it is similar to "xpes" it goes much further and allows total customization of the programs, registry edits and menu options.

It will create an inf or cmd file installation script that should install all your apps tweaks and other stuff completely unattended.

It's currently only processing the menu and defaults and is in its early stages.

IF anyone has any ideas, suggestions, comments or anything else then please shout up.

I don't even have a name for it yet so ill take suggestions on that as well :)

    You can download it here
