  1. Hey Thanks for that. It seems to be running, according to the computer management pages. It says that the location of the website is c:\internetpub\companyweb\ (or something similar), but I can't see any .html files in there. What I did do was to make a simple index.html file and put it in that folder, but I still couldn't get there, even when going to http://companyweb/index.html Hamish
  2. Hiya the only DNS servers is: 192.168.16.2 There are no public DNS servers on the NICs. Does it look like the server is just not running? Is there a way to see if it is running? Thanks Hamish
  3. Hello I have MS Small Business Server 2003 which is running, among other things, the internal website. I cannot get to the internal web site at http://companyweb/ anymore. The error which IE gives is "cannot find server or DNS error". If I open DOS and "ping companyweb" it returns the ping from the IP address. If I go to http;//localhost/ or http://192.168.16.2 (IP of server), it gets the same error. Does this mean that the web server is not running? Would it give this error is the firewall was blocking the port, or would that give a different erro (like a timeout). If so, how to I see if it is not running, a how would I restart it if I need to? Many thanks Hamish
  4. Hi there We have set up Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2003 clients. Eveyrone has shared calendars. When we invite each other to appointments, the accept/reject email is sent out. When anyone accpets this, the appointment goes into the private, unshared calendar on the person's PC and NOT to the person's share calendar. Is there a way to change this? Thanks Hamish
  5. Hello Sorry to dig this back up. I now have this system set up (with Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003 on all clients). Everyone can see and add events into the 8 dairies which are shared using Exchange. When I add an event to someone's calendar, and invite people to that event, they all get emails asking if they wish to accept/reject. This is great. However, when they press accept, it just sends an email back to me. It does NOT actually put this appointment into the person's calendar. They have to manually insert the event into their diary. Is this an inherent problem, or have I set something up wrong? Thanks so much Hamish
  6. So, to conclude, I could share calendars with Exchange AND people would still have the accept/reject ability? Hamish
  7. oops this seems to be duplicated . sorry
  8. Hiya I'm hoping someone can answer my question about Exchange and sharing calendars. I understand that you can share calendars using Exchange, and I can view Person X's calendar and add things to it etc. Is this is the same as public folders? Also, in Outlook you can "invite attendees" to a meeting, and this sends them an email before putting it in their diary asking if they want to accept of reject the event. In shared calendars with Exchange, can I have that option? I mean, can I look at Person X's calendar, add an event and he still gets an email notification asking if he wants to accept/reject the meeting? Kind regards and thank you in advance for the help. Hamish

  10. And there is no workaround/hack? hamish
  11. I can connect, as chilifrei64 rightly says, to one share at a time, but not to both at the same time. I have not yet tried it with a different IP address. THe error I get when I try and mount the second share is: The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password. To connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this network share. Thanks Hamish
  12. Hey with XP Pro, I would like to be able to mount two shares at the one time, one with the username "office" (with its password) and one with the username "private" (and its password). It seems that I cannot mount two shares with different usernames at the same time with XP. Is this true? If so, what is the workaround? Hamish
  13. when using RDP, does the client have to be on the LAN, or on a VPN? Or can I just connect to a public IP? hamish
  14. Solved! 1 Log in as the administrator to the 2k Pro machine. 2. Open cmd 3. type: net localgroup Administrators "DOMAIN\Domain Users" /ADD 4. Hit enter. hamish
  15. Hey I have a windows 2000 pro PC which is the member of a domain, where the Primary Domain Controller is a samba server. My users all have roaming profiles, so they can log onto any PC in the network. I'm having problems with privileges though. I would like to assign certain privileges (eg change the clock time) to these users with roaming profiles (they are remote users, of course, with no local logon) How can I assign privileges on the client which will affect ALL these remote users? I would like them all to be power users, to be honest. I believe that this will give them virtually total local control. Cheers, all help is welcome. Hamish
  16. yeah. I would think so. I wonder if it will be anytime in 2005?
  17. Hiya I was just reading about SP3 on Zdnet and wondered when it is due to come out. Does anyone have a release date? Hamish
  18. in what sense "moved"? It is always plugged into the same server. I wondered if one unsahred the printer before shutting down the server. That might help. Simply because it is a simpler situation. hamish
  19. thanks guys! all of that is very good too hear
  20. Hey I have a a desktop server running in my office on XP home. It has two printers attached to it, A and B. These are both shared with other people in my office. Always when I reboot, one, or both, of the printers seem to have stopped working. Although the icon is there, when I print a test page locally I'm told that the driver is not installed. When I print from one of the clients, the page just doesn't print. Although the icon is always there for theprinter on the server, XP home seems to uninstall the driver. Occasionally, I can reinstall the driver and then it will work until I next reboot. Is this a know problem? I talked to a guy who shares one printer on a network using XP home, and he mentioned a similar problem. WHat is the fix? Hamish
  21. Very good. I shall not bother with it. I'm basically trying to find out how to use AD fairly well, and what features it has. You guys have been very helpful, so I thank you. Are there any good how-tos out there which detail why one should use group policy, and give me an example of how to set up a group policy for something fairly simple. Just to give me an idea of how it works. Cheers Hamish
  22. thank you! h
  23. Hey I'm just looking through the services which start automatically on my install of XP . Which can I disable? Is there a website somewhere that will tell me what programme/type of programme each service is used by? Thanks Hamish
  24. Hey all Thank you! All fixed now. Is it possible to set quotas for user's Home Folders? Hamish
  25. Hey I've just been with a client and he was havign problems with Automatic Update and Manual updates with MS. The automatic update says it works, but when you check, it hasn't worked at all. Also, if one just goes to MS website and tries to update manually, it fails. He has tried this from his home (where he just connects straight to Internet via ADSL modem) and at work, where he goes through a simple router. Also, when I did manual update, 2 of the 5 programmes failed to download at all. This has been going on for the past 6 weeks and following updates are the ones which fail: - Security Update for Windows XP (KB896358) - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB883939) - Security Update for Windows XP (KB896422) - Security Update for Windows XP (KB890046) - Security Update for Windows XP (KB893066) The first three fail on error code 0x80070003 The bottom two fail on error code 0x8007010B What could be the cause of this? Is anyone else experiencing the same problems? Hamish
