Hi all, I run a laptop on our main TV as a media centre, and have all the video files (mainly xvid's) stored on a server 2008 box upstairs. Using a wireless network to communicate. Up until installing SP1, everything was fine, however now every minute or so the video and audio will completely stop, stutter for about 10 seconds, then play normally until it does it again I noticed that before SP1 windows would use about 1MB/sec network bandwidth for a few seconds, then almost none, then lots again, which I'm assuming is it buffering on a large scale. However, post-SP1 reveals a constant download rate of about 1.5Mbit/sec (which seems in line with the bitrate of the video files), and I believe that it is this more "streaming" approach rather than the large buffering approach that is causing this. My question is: is there any way to change this? (WMP buffering settings have almost no effect), have tried uninstalling SP1, but the problem remains. Anyone here got any ideas?

Is there any way to do it without having to reinstalling the os?

Hi there, I have no idea why, but the ability to enable the SERVER part of remote desktop is completely disabled There is no remote tab in my computer, and the registry trick does not seem to be working! I believe this may be a nlite'd version so that may be the problem But I am asking is there any way for me to reinstall the server part of RDC? (I can view other computers from it, its only one way, and there are no firewall conflicts) At the moment I am using VNC but IMHO it just doesn't cut it! Many thanks in advance Rob!

It does not say anything about office 2003 - it goes on about a previous version of Office 2007 which I do not have!

No - I cant even get to that stage - as soon as the files have extracted and the setup screen begins to load I cannot go any further because of the message box

Sounds like yet another stupid American law. I bet though that if you did give them resuscitation then they would sue you for damaging a rib or something stupid One question - with beta one you could install it if you had not valadited windows - is this still possible, and can someone please send me a link to the post, Thanks in advance, Rob

Ive just done it and it worked for me and my XP isnt even activated let alone being able to validate

To use windows update just enter java script:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all') into the address bar at the screen where you choose custom or express install, then click go and choose custom - volia!

Although just clicking remove will not remove the users (just their security rules for that file/folder). To delete the users go to start>run>control userpasswords2>advanced tab>advanced button. Only then will you see all users/groups on your computer (i think)

Hi all, Ive noticed that for some reason my start menu programs section has become de-alphabetilised. This has happened before and i saw somewhere an app that effictlly "resets" the start menu and then everything goes back to normal. Does any one have any ideas on how to do this??? I have this sometimes to (MCE proper 2005). To get it back do ctl+alt+del then close explorer.exe, then go to the applications tab and click new task, then type explorer.exe, click ok and volia your done (although you may loose some inactive tray icons)

Hi all, As some of you know, AOL have doubbled their speeds. Since this doubble i have noticed this problem: whenever i am maxing out my upload speed (so thats 25kbs then ) i can no longer get a very good download speed. This never used to be (i could uplaod with 25 and download with 120). My first thoughts say RADSL, but i didnt think they use it on 2meg lines. Also my stats arnt that good (Downstream margin: 13, Downstream Line Attenuation: 48, Upstream Line Attenuation: 30), although dispite this i dont get any disconnections. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem or knows a possible soloution (i am using a Linksys router, but this did not have this problem when i was on 1mbit) Many thanks in advance, Rob

Hi there, I have just tried to install MCE 2005 from a upgrade of Windows XP Home Edition(SP1). All was goin well until after the computer restarted and it came to the insatlling devices section. It has been in the same place for the last hour, with no movment in the progress bar and not much disk useage (and it always says 34 mins remaining). can anyone help me to try to resolve this problem, as i would like it to upgrade (but if i have to do a clean install wont the same thing happen?)? It normally works fine when i install XP Home (dosent take very long on the installing devices section). Many thanks in advance, Rob

Thats the problem: no AGP port, the computer is about 1.5 years old so no pcie either. I suppose i could just get a new motherboard (im thinking about replaceing myne anyway). Thanks for all your help (much more usefull than the dell forums: all they said were it's on the cd), Rob
