The device named "Intel® ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller (DEV_2829) is supported by the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers, whereas the "Intel® ICH8M Ultra Storage Controller (DEV_2850) is managed by the Intel chipset drivers ("INF Update Utility"). You will be able to get Windows XP installed onto your laptop by just integrating the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers v8.8.0.1009, which are linked within my guide (first post). If you want to get both Controllers from scratch, you have to integrate both drivers (32bit Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver as TEXTMODE driver and INF drivers as PNP drivers). You can be very confident, that you will succeed with the XP installation onto your laptop in real mode, if you have integrated the 32bit Intel textmode driver and checked the Intel ICH8M AHCI Controller, but you will not be able to test the drivers with VMWare. Probably not. It is not recommended to integrate several drivers of the same chipset vendor (in this case Intel), because you cannot be sure, which driver version at least will be installed. The problem is induced by the fact, that all different Intel driver versions have the same name: IASTOR.SYS. So the already integrated IASTOR.SYS file will be overwritten during the integration procedure of the next driver version.If you want to create an XP CD with a big variety of textmode drivers, I recommend to use the DriverPacks method. Where is no disk in the drive? I think, that you were booting off the CD? Yes, but you have to check the Intel ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller while integrating the Intel textmode driver.

If you have additionally integrated the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver as textmode driver, everything is fine. The Intel textmode driver is not part of Intel's chipset drivers (INF "Utility").

Questions:1. Are you sure, that you burnt the iso image correctly to get a bootable CD? 2. Have you set the CD/DVD drive as first bootable device within the BIOS? 3. Did you get the "Hit any key to start from CD/DVD" after trying to boot off the CD? 4. At which point of the XP installation did you get the blank screen (after having loaded the fist files, after having detected your hdd etc.)? By the way: I asked you to post into this thread. This thread is just for users, who want to integrate the NVIDIA textmode drivers, but you are using the Intel ones.

There is no reason for being angry.The truth is, that a clean (=untouched original) XP CD doesn't contain a WINNT.SIF file. Consequence: If you want to integrate any textmode driver by using nLite, you should use a clean source. This way you avoid any problem with the OemPreinstall="Yes" setting. Regards Fernando

That is not true.You can integrate any textmode driver into a bootable XP CD with the OemPreinstall="Yes" setting. Preconditions: 1. You have to use a clean (=untouched) XP CD as source. 2. You may not use the F6 option.

Ok, this information helps much. Your laptop has an Intel ICH8M Southbridge and you will need the 32bit Intel textmode driver to get XP installed.Consequence: Instead of the NVIDIA ones (which is the topic of this thread) you have to integrate the Intel textmode drivers into the XP CD. If you want help,you should give some more informations:1. Which is the manufacturer (HP?) and which is the exact name of your laptop (Pavilion dv6500 CTO? HP has built different laptops of the "Pavilion dv-6500 Enternainment Notebook" series.)? 2. Do you know the vendor and name of the Southbridge chip, which is on the mainboard of your laptop? You may look into your manual of the laptop. Other option: If you should still have access to Vista, open the Device Manager" and look into the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" and "Storage Controllers" sections for the names of the listed Controllers. This might us help finding the vendor and suitable SATA or RAID driver. General notice: You will not need to integrate any driver, if you run the SATA Controller of your laptop in "IDE/LEGACY mode". Enter the BIOS and search for an option like "native SATA Mode" or similar. This setting should be disabled, if you want to get XP installed without the currently enabled enhanced SATA settings. If you should have access to any Windows OS (Vista?) with your Dell computer, try to format the future XP partition from within the running OS.If not, I would do, what I have already suggested.

1. Open the "Disk Drives" section of the Device Manager.2. Do a right-click onto the shown NVIDIA RAID device > "Properties" > "Policies". Now you get the option to disable the "Write Cashing" of your RAIDed hdd's.

You probably missed nothing. Either the hdd is really damaged or the partition index, which is stored within the track0 of the hdd, could not be read by Windows setup. Tip: Check the hdd by the diagnostic tool of the hdd vendor. If needed, do a low format of the hdd by using the tool.

@ goc666: The reason, why you are not able to get any WHQL signed Intel SATA AHCI driver installed, is the fact, that your mainboard only has an Intel ICH9 Southbridge and not an ICH9R or ICH9M one. The AHCI ability of the Intel ICH8 and ICH9 Southbridges (without a letter behind it) is officially not supported by Intel, the specific DeviceID's (in your case: DEV_2923) are missing within the INF file of the digitally signed drivers. Solution for you: Take the Intel textmode driver v8.8.0.1009, which has been customized by me to be suitable with Intel ICH8 and ICH9 Southbridges. You will find it within my guide. By the way: The missing WHQL stamp doesn't have any influence on the function of a driver. @ GrofLuigi: Thanks for your assistance. You are totally right. I replied nevertheless just to explain the reason, why goc666 was not able to get a WHQL signed Intel AHCI driver installed.

It is not true, that nLite breaks the RAID driver use. You can take nLite, but if you do not integrate the needed textmode driver, you have to disable the OemPreInstall option. Otherwise you get the error message. This is not a bug of nLite, but a behaviour of the Windows Setup routine, which expects the driver path within the WINNT.SIF, if such a file is present within the i386 directory. By the way: If you are using nLite, why don't you just integrate the RAID driver?

There must be a BIOS option to disable the enhanced SATA mode (AHCI or RAID).I have done a Google search for "HP Pavilion dv-6000 +driver +SATA" and I got a lot of links with the same conclusion: Set the "SATA Enhanced Modus" or "SATA Native Support" to DISABLED. If the Windows XP Setup doesn't recognize the SATA hdd, the related SATA Controller is set to AHCI or RAID mode. There should be a BIOS option to disable it. The other possibility is to integrate the suitable SATA AHCI or RAID textmode driver, but this requires the knowledge of the SOUTHBRIDGE (= SATA Controllers) chip of your pavilion dv-6000. Do you know it? If you should still have access to Vista, you may open the device manager and look for the controller names within the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" and "Storage Controllers" section. The knowledge of these names will help us to find out the vendor of your SATA Controllers and the suitable SATA driver. EDIT: I got it after an intensive new Google search. The Southbridge of your notebook has a NVIDIA MCP51 Southbridge, the SATA hdd obviously is set to RAID mode (MCP51 chipsets do not support AHCI). So if you want or have to stick with your current BIOS settings, you probably have to integrate the SATARAID folder of a driver, which supports nForce 430/410 chipsets. You will find everything within this guide. If you should have any further question, please post into the just linked thread, because this thread has nothing to do with your problem.

Have you ever tried to disable the "write cashing" of your RAID drives? This setting has solved the RAID problems of several users. That should be done before you start the XP installation. Everything is explained within my guide (first post of this thread). Why SP2? If you do a fresh install, you should use the actual XP SP3 version from scratch.

Then disable the "SATA Mode" option (choose "No"). That means the same.

Your laptop has a NVIDIA nForce chipset and a NVIDIA Southbridge. So you will not be able to use the guide of this Intel textmode driver thread.It is very easy to get Windows XP installed onto your laptop, if you do the following: Enter the BIOS and disable the "SATA Native Support". After having done it, you will be able to get Windows XP installed onto your laptop without the need of integrating/loading any textmode drivers. @ stefan7: I don't see any entry, which may verify your statement, that the Intel ICH8 Controller of your board does support the AHCI features. Fact is, that your Intel ICH8 SATA Controller is not supported by any official Intel textmode driver. I would be able to modify the INF and OEM files by adding the HardwareID's you have posted, but I am sure, that this wouldn't work. I told you already the reason why: The suffix "&CC_0106" is missing. Please let us finish this useless discussion. This is a thread about how to integrate the Intel RAID/AHCI drivers, but in your case there are no suitable drivers available. If you should find them elsewhere, please let us know it. Good luck! I don't know it. Furthermore I doubt, that you will be able to get it working even after having added the HardwareID's of your Controller to the INF and OEM files of the driver.

Ok, then you can forget the AHCI mode with your JMicron SATA ports. You are right. ACPI is an old power management feature, AHCI is a new SATA standard. The topic of the link is the AHCI mode of the ATI SATA Controllers, whereas your problem is the AHCI mode of the Intel SATA Controllers. Welcome at MSFN Forums!After having done a Google search I found out, that you have 2 options: a ) Enter the BIOS and disable the "SATA Native Support" setting. Then you will be able to get XP installed onto your laptop without any problems. b ) If you want to stay with the enabled "SATA Native Support", you probably have to integrate the nForce SATARAID and SATA_IDE driver of an appropriate nForce chipset driverpack. And why does Everest show a JMicron JMB361 SATA-II AHCI Controller? Is your DVD drive IDE or SATA connected? If it is a SATA drive, you should connect it with an Intel SATA port. You may try that.
