  1. i too recommend hp but it all depends on what u want to do with it

only get a dell if u dont plan on taking it places b/c they are rly big

    hp's are medium sized

    toshibas are meant for mobility

    i want it for home

there is a Dell Inspiron 6000 with 1.6 Centrino second generation Sonoma

but 64 MB ATI shared graphic card !!

15.4 inch screen 512 MB ram

    is this good ?

also, i would like to know, if a laptop with VGA : Intel 32 MB shared memory

can this run 3D games (i'm not a hardcore gamer) but sometimes i like to see

    new games demos... ?

    Thank you.

  2. i'd played Quake under Dos, then Quake 2 under win 98, but when i tried Quake 3

demo under XP, the game is working OK, but the characters are moving very fast that i can not shoot or do anything... is this normal ??

    Thank you.

  3. every 6 month or every year, i had to clean my PC: fans, mobo, cards,....

(we have a lot of dust).

also in hot summer i may open the case while working in order to reduce cpu / mobo temp. (i have no air condition)

    But what about laptops ?

can i clean it myself ? also, is there an extra cooling for laptops that can be made ?

    Thanks.

Tell me more about winlogon, is it a just a standard version in xp sp2? 15 seconds is fast

( 15 seconds from the appearance of Boot logo till the appearance of Desktop )

Winlogon: The Winlogon service is the standard logon context in Windows XP. Devices that run Winlogon are somewhat larger and slower to start than devices that run Minlogon. However, they use the full spectrum of Windows security features, including Group Policy settings, user logon rights, and ACLs

the winlogon.exe file is attached in this thread in the first topic

included in the zipped file: mindows.zip edited by Aegis

i took it and replace the original winlogon.exe inside system32 folder

after replacing (from outside the OS), boot was 17 sec. , so i ran BootVis utility

and it was reduced to 15 sec.

Using MinLogon (the original name of this version of winlogon file) in a Windows XP allows you to reduce boot time, shutdown time, and footprint.

    check this please:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....PE_MinLogon.asp

winlogon size is about 500 K

minlogon size is about 17 K only

  5. i'd made a simple thing

i'd replaced the original winlogon.exe with the included winlogon.exe

    in Win XP Pro SP2

now xp boot much faster without welcome screen in 15 sec.

    and there's more ram :thumbup

but, the problem is that outlook express has an error and didn't launch !!

i tried to uninstall it and reinstall from windows component but no way. :(

also if i choose log off, pc shuts down, but this is no problem to me...

    any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  6. Try running these commands. Basically what this is doing is clearing the cache Deleting the current WMI Repository and when you restart the service it will recreate it

    navigate to c:\windows\system32\wbem

    winmgmt /clearadap

    winmgmt /kill

    winmgmt /unregserver

    winmgmt /regserver

    winmgmt /resyncperf

    net stop Wmi

    net stop winmgmt

    del %windir%\system32\Wbem\Repository\*.* /s

    net start winmgmt

    net start wmi

navigate to your network connections and go to properties... it will probably hang for a little bit and svchost.exe will go crazy for about 20 seconds then the context menu should show up.

Let me know if this fixes it.

i'd did so but at the :

    net stop Wmi

    net stop winmgmt

it said that WMI is not started

when i navigate to Network, it's still corrupted

also the file sharing service has ! yellow mark

Thank you so much for your time...

  7. Were you getting a specific message in event viewer or a message when you tried to start the service?

when open the status of lan connection, clicking on properties, advanced tab

in the past this page was showing firewall options, but now it has a message

    that WMI information is corrupted...

and also in the services section, i tried to start WMI service but i got an error:

    "class not registered"

    Thanks.

  8. There are many free distros out there:

    *) Debian (www.debian.org)

    *) Fedora (fedora.redhat.com)

    *) SuSE (www.suse.com)

    *) ...

    I would recommend Fedora.

    Egon

    Thank you

but i'd recognize that most downloaded versions of Linux are in iso format,

and i hadn't a CD writer but i can extract it to hard drive, so can i install from

    hard drive ?

  9. also i want to know if i'm using the hacked software personaly at home and i don't make any money from it... is this right?

No it is theft regardless of whether you copied it on to anyone else, sold it or hacked it yourself, it is theft! These companies, sometimes very small and with limited resources have staff to pay etc and your helping to put them out of business - plain and simple. However I think that if your even asking this question you already know that its wrong! But thats not to say the Copyright Police will soon be breaking down your door either - thats highly unlikely, youve a far greater chance of winning the lottery - its more a moral dilema!

As for p2p technology, theres nothing wrong with it. You wouldnt blame Smith & Wesson because their guns are used to kill people would you? As someone else has pointed out BitTorrent is used by companies, many Open Source projects etc, to help with the cost of their bandwidth. I have helped seed many files legitimately to help out open Source projects, - dont blame the tools, blame the tradesman!

    Thank you so much... :)
