Yes, that's normal with most 3G USB modems, first it mounts the modem as a thumb drive, after that it dismounts and starts the modem it self.
I wish they gave you the option just to connect the modem and use it as a modem only, I for example have to uninstall the modem every time I start up my notebook and do the install process over and over again on Windows 7. I use a Nokia by the way.
Thank you so much, i'd disabled the storage drive of the modem (detected in device manager), but it still mounts and dismounts the device.
i thought it was faulty, but thank you for the info you'd gave me.

when i connect 3G USB modem Hauwei E156G, it connect .. disconnect .. connect,
after that it is working OK, but is that normal ?
it's updated with latest software.
i'm using windows 7 and also the problem is under Vista.

You can also use a WinPE or NTFSDOS to view NTFS volumes. WinPE follows NTFS permissions while NTFSDOS doesn't. So I use NTFSDOS to reattribute, move or delete files otherwise inaccessible.

Fan is always on after resuming from sleep mode ?

hp usb format tool creates a DOS bootable usb...

i'd create a bootable usb flash drive with "hp usb format tool", and boot my vista lap, but i can't read any hard drive to install xp.
as xp cd refuse to boot at all, although i set bios to boot from cd and disabled serial support for HDD.
the usb flash had took the letter C: and i can browse its content but there is no other partitions visible ??

Yes, all of that needs to be the same because the device extending your range is actually on your network.
Your card is unlikely to have a fixed channel. It probably uses whichever channel (1-11) is being used on the network that you connect to. You need to worry about the channel at the router/AP level.

what i know : to extend wireless range of a wireless router is to attach an access point to it.
my question is about:
SSID
channel
encryption
all of this have to be the same on the 2 devices ?
if the channel has to be different, my (Atheros) wireless card has a fixed channel no. in its settings, so how to fix that ?

while i'm surfing the net i see the globe orb in the system tray disappears and then appears and so on...
but the router is connected.

1Megabit per second at top speed would give you in theory 128kbps downstream, Consider you are on a signal that has a measurement of strength on a scale of 1-5, if you were getting the worst signal (i.e 1) you would in theory recieve 128/5 = 26kbps.
I have not tested this theory but it makes sense to me that this is what you should expect

That is a question no one can answer and you really have to try it yourself to know it.
Factors are:
- Distance to the Server
- Speed of your computer
- OS of your computer
- Saturation of the network
- Modem firmware and modem type
- ... and so on...

Wireless will do easily 1Mbps down and up, so if you go with the standard 54Mbps (N isn´t that much faster) you will have enough overhead to get the 1Mbps on a weak signal. Just remember to place your router/modem at a high spot...The original ADSL speed is 1 M bit per sec. ?Thanks puntoMX so much...

my battery lasts for only 2 hours with Vista retail full package !!

i'm using Opera 10.10 on acer aspire with synaptics touch pad with the latest drivers v 14.0.3
horizontal scrolling not working, but it's working with chrome, IE, and other appliactions !!
