  1. You are using a FULL 98SE CD and an UPGRADE serial number/product key. That doesn't work, as you've found out. To make this work, install from the SAME CD you used originally. As an aside, now is as good a time as ever to get everything backed up. That clean install will happen to/for you someday - and it'll be a GOOD thing. Best wishes from muggy and uncomfortable Atlanta GA USA.
  2. USB boot support is a function of the mobo chipset and/or BIOS capabilities. If your BIOS supports USB bootup, you may have to configure it for LEGACY support. Good luck, amigo.
  3. Are your drives formatted as NTFS or FAT32? Sounds like a filesystem limitation to me. Also, what kind of DVD image are you burning? Must use UDF (not ISO) for images over a certain size, if I recall correctly.... Please let us know here what you find out, OK? 4. Check out these sites. Seems to be more than just an idea.... http://www.xbox-linux.org/ http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic6219.html http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~ranma1/linux_install.html http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbox-linux/ http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/debian.php http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/60/62/ And see lots more hits at www.google.com, here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=...G=Google+Search I'm gonna go look and see if anybody's thinking of doing Win2K or XP on an XBox.
  5. I agree with ScubaSteve - WinUHA really shrinks stuff... But at what TIME cost? WinUHA is slower than WinRAR at both compression and decompression. I wonder if we'll see similar features in the next WinRAR, my archiver of choice (having switched from WinZip some time ago). ScubaSteve, please share your working times for the above ref'd process. Thanks for mentioning the latest and greatest archiving application here in the forums.
  6. The necessary service "Automatic Updates" (WUAUSERV) is not started or Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is disabled. or CAUSE Scenario 1 This issue may occur when the client computer sends a HEAD request on a TCP connection that has already been closed by the proxy server. Scenario 2 This issue may occur when the client computer authenticates with NULL credentials with the proxy server. NULL credentials being sent causes the proxy server to return an error other than the required authentication. This causes the control to fail without offering an authentication window to the user. or I asked Microsoft. They said "Please update BITS". Please apply the Windows XP hot fix KB842773. or The subject problem can occur on Windows XP if the BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service), or Automatic Update, services are stopped. To resolve this problem: 1. Start / Run / Services.msc / OK. 2. Double-click the Automatic Updates service. 3. Set the Startup type to Automatic and press Apply. 4. If the Service status is Stopped, press Start. 5. Press OK. 6. Double-click the Background Intelligent Transfer Service service. 7. Set the Startup type to Manual and press Apply. 8. If the Service status is Stopped, press Start. 9. Press OK. per my quick search at www.google.com Best of luck in tracking this baby down. That error code mentioned should point directly at the problem - are you certain you have the correct error number? Mark Strelecki, ACP www.strelecki.com/links.html
  7. As long as the LCD monitor has a VGA connector (DB-15) you can use any older video card to hook up to it. The LCD I use has BOTH DVI and VGA connections (and stereo speakers, but that's another story <grin> ) so I can hook up to it from a new videocard or old one. Hope you get it working. Best wishes from rainy Atlanta GA. Mark Strelecki, ACP Atlanta, GA USA www.strelecki.com/links.html Computing and Programming Since 1975 B)
  8. If there is a folder named NIS, use the SETUP.EXE therein to install NIS without NAV. Works for me.
