  1. Heh, I'm surprised you're awake since you're in Poland. Isn't it like 1am? Okay here's the deal My hardware.ini file is: [ADVANCED] Registry_path=Begin The error is on the device: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4223&Subsys_10008086&REV_05 Problem ID 01 (I thought this is just enumerating how many devices were in the system that weren't installed yet) ------------------- Now, I just redid the same exact machine, but logged in as local admin instead of the domain admin (as I usually do) and it detected the drivers and installed them properly. ------------------- It's good that code adds that extra step for getting the latest drivers. Also, how do you get a pc/laptop ready for testing your builds? I keep having to reimage or reinstall...
  2. I see you answered your own question Yeah it should be the same as DEVCON RESCAN
  3. Do you mean go into device manager and right click on the computer icon and click "Scan for Hardware Changes"? What I do know on the problem laptop (model is dissimilar but the brand is the same as the others I have) is that it sees that there is a device that has a problem. But, alas, I don't have that laptop to play with. I'll see about getting the same model from someone else today. What I do know is that once I import the INF locations into the registry and run RunDll32.exe Syssetup.dll,UpdatePnpDevicedrivers After a couple minutes the devices that weren't installed are now. And thanks again!
  4. Under [ADVANCED] Plug_and_Play=Internal or Devcon I'll check it out and report... In my log it says that "Reboot setting set incorrectly. Only mode 2,6 and 9 are possible!" But my ini file says Reboot=6 Also, in version 0.7.2 should we get rid of under [iNFO] Logging_to_file and Logging_Option and put those under [LOG] ? I also get "No active plug & play process has been found after 15 seconds. Terminating." Even though it shows that it found a device and imports the registry devices inf folders. -------------- Other thoughts.. what does work. Using a batch script with in conjunction with Devcon (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272) and Vernalex's Sysprep Driver Scanner (http://www.vernalex.com/tools/spdrvscn/index.shtml) Script adds drivers to registry, removes bad devices, rescans for new devices, restarts (30 seconds). On restart all devices are installed. Script code: ECHO Importing Drivers into Registry spdrvscn /p c:\D /e inf /d %windir%\inf /a /s /q ECHO Installing Devices DEVCON REMOVE DEVCON RESCAN ECHO Restarting Computer to Complete Install shutdown -r -c "Rebooting for Driver Installation" Below also works too... without restart... ECHO Importing Drivers into Registry spdrvscn /p c:\D /e inf /d %windir%\inf /a /s /q ECHO Installing Devices RunDll32.exe Syssetup.dll,UpdatePnpDevicedrivers ECHO This process can take up to 10 minutes depending on devices that need installation
  5. For use with the Devcon switch, do I need to have Devcon in the folder with hardware.exe? I keep having problems with Hardware 0.7.1 not finding the wireless drivers. Weird... Hopefully 0.7.2 fixes it.
  6. So you can set it to use the correct hal without having to know the model/make?
  7. That's pretty cool! But I wonder how we'd get it to work with MassStorage though?
  8. MySysprep sorta works. It does allow changing to the correct HAL, BUT you have to know every model you have specifically. That's a pain, and you have to keep it updated.
  9. I just PM'd you. The guy who made the driver scanner was on this forum too... Whats great about the driver scanner is that it adds it to the registry, almost like native windows inf's folder. Works really well.
  10. Care to share? We've been doing a couple things here... I am using DriverPacks for LAN, MassStorage, CPU and Chipset. I use a driver scanner that adds them to the registry, which negates the need to add them to OemPnPDriversPath in the SYSPREP.inf. I also add a couple other things under SysprepMassStorage [Sysprep] BuildMassStorage=Yes;--- Enables SysprepMassStorage [SysprepMassStorage];--- This enables imaging on different hard IDE controllers Primary_IDE_Channel = %windir%\inf\mshdc.inf Secondary_IDE_Channel = %windir%\inf\mshdc.inf PCMCIA\*PNP0600=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf *PNP0600=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCMCIA\KME-KXLC005-A99E=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCMCIA\_-NinjaATA--3768=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCMCIA\FUJITSU-IDE-PC_CARD-DDF2=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf *AZT0502=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\CC_0101=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5215=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5219=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5229=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_1097&DEV_0038=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_0640=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_0646=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_0E11&DEV_AE33=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1222=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1230=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7010=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7111=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2411=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2421=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7199=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_1042&DEV_1000=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_0601=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_5513=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_10AD&DEV_0001=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_10AD&DEV_0150=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_4D33=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_0571=%systemroot%\inf\mshdc.inf ;---- Latest Drivers for INTEL Chipsets PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D0=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich5core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24DC=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich5core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D3=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich5core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2640=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich6core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2641=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich6core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2642=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich6core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27B0=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich7core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27B1=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich7core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27B8=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich7core.inf PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27B9=C:\D\C\I\xp\ich7core.inf I also do this withing UnattendedGUI ;UpdateHAL=ACPIAPIC_MP,%WINDIR%\Inf\Hal.inf;--- ONLY Un-Comment the beginning if your making a uniprocessor image become a multiprocessor ;UpdateUPHAL=ACPIAPIC_UP,%WINDIR%\Inf\Hal.inf;--- ONLY Un-Comment the beginning if your making a multiprocessor image become uniprocessor ;ForceHALDetection=Yes; --- ONLY un-comment if you un-comment one of the two above Another note is that you do not need to un-comment the UpdateHAL in the Sysprep.inf if you’re imaging, let's say, from a 1.2 GHz Celeron to a 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo. These are NOT multiprocessor but multi-core. A multiprocessor machine is TWO or more PHYSICAL chips. Most companies DO NOT have multiprocessor workstations. These are also either ACPI Uniprocessor PC or ACPI MultiProcessor PC, which should all work with Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC. For some reason WLAN really slows down the sysprep component in min-setup, so I leave that out. I use the utility from the drivers section of this forum called Hardware 0.7.1 that is called to run on first login. This is setup to automatically install anything that didn't install during sysprep from the rest of the DriverPacks; sound, video and wlan.
  11. The WFP fix also doesn't work with SP2 anymore...
  12. Contig (Sysinternals now Microsoft) and PowerDefragmenter (a GUI) works really really well - http://vistarewired.com/2007/02/15/defragm...er-than-normal/
  13. Hey sorry for not getting back to be able to test with the beta. I'll test with this one though, and thanks!
  14. I don't think you are making your own OS. And even if you did there's a 10 to billionth that the drivers would work for your built from the ground up system.
  15. This topic has come up many, many times. I'd do a search on it on the forum because it's already been covered completely. Some useful info of what the above poster said... You add the text to the boot.ini NOT the sysprep.inf http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309283 http://www.altirigos.com/vbulletin/showthr...=953&page=3 Also, before you take the image you want to change the Computer type (in hardware manager) to "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC". Just update the driver and click on the appropriate one.
  16. NEW! This is the error I get with .9 beta using Vista Ultimate Source I used Apply and Rebuild.
  17. The problem is that if it's not FREE than people won't touch it if it's not better than what's currently out. I mean there are a load of programs that do just what you describe.
  18. Actually it's not... but thanks for checking... Anyways I already tried copying the x86 source to a directory and doing it that way... Perhaps it's just me.
  19. Original Vista? The version I have will install all the versions without keys, factory stuff. It has x64 and x86 versions, Ultimate, Business, Home, etc... I tried to copy the folder "source" from within the other folders... it's just so different than what I'm used to... Also I did some testing with disabling services. I didn't see any real improvement with disabling Superfetch (in fact slower system performance) or Readyboost. I did, however, see performance increases without some other services like firewall, uac, etc...
  20. ^^ I have to agree with you kat. Just because Vista bloats doesn't mean we need to keep it that way. Just look at XP.... same evolution.
  21. Here's the deal... Vista AIO (my works, oh yeah) I set the DVD as the source. It copies the files to a folder on the hd. Setup what I want and dont want in vLite. It creates the ISO, about the same size. Create a new VM and boot off the iso.... Problem, it only goes as far as loading cmd.exe. It doesn't start startnet.cmd like the original. it just hangs with the cmd window open. Any ideas?
  22. Yeah that site is awesome for getting the latest nvidia drivers for your laptop.
  23. The vlite utility is for the iso creation... Anyways some people just don't have 2gb of ram YET. Anyways thanks for nothing.
  24. So we ALL know that Vista is a resource hog out of the box. For me it took around 500mb. I had to disable or manual set many services. Heres a list of what I did... Turned off UAC Distributed Link Tracking - Disabled Internet Connection Sharing - Disabled Offline Files - Disabled Routing and Remote Access - Disabled Security Center - Manual Tablet PC Input - Disabled Windows Defender - Disabled Windows Error Reports - Disabled Windows Event Collector - Disabled Windows Search - Disabled
